CHAPTER 321
Brody’s heart sank and every second felt like eternity. There was no option for him but to remain there and wait for Desmond to catch him. He was out of tricks this time - the ultimate end of the world for him.But there was a different sound amidst the clank of woods.“Hello boss,” Desmond spoke, his voice making its way to Brody’s ears.Of course that had to be Mr. Lawrence, Brody reasoned.Could life be more unfortunate than it had already been if he were handed over to Mr. Lawrence? “Who are you?”“I said Who are you?”Those were the next words that made their way into Brody’s ear.Brody was mixed up in a frantic search for understanding. Desmond couldn’t have been who was on the line if it were Mr. Lawrence. He was sure that it was Mr. Lawrence who called him the first time and which led to Desmond’s change of attitude towards him. That was not as surprising to him as what was happening now.Trouble was already something Brody had gotten used to. It was no longer a strange thing
CHAPTER 322
With a fierce determination, Brody summoned the last ounce of strength inside of him as he shoved the firewood once again.Time was ticking too fast for him and his life was hanging in the balance. A little too much of a burden for a boy who was not even 15 yet.The sound of the lighter being lit escaped into his ears and the smell of smoke was already evident. The pile of firewood teetered as the flames weakened the structure.Brody’s effort was also yielding fruit. With a final heave, he cleared the burning logs, escaping the fire. But just as he was about to sprint away, he was met with sharp resistance. With a snarl, Desmond lunged forward towards the boy, closing the gap between them. He wasn’t going to let the boy go so easily. Never!“Let me go!” Brody screamed, grappling with the effect of Desmond’s dreadful lunge. “Leave me alone you monster.”The air was saturated with the heat of their struggle and the swampy ground covered with crunchy leaves felt the heat.Desmond was det
CHAPTER 323
It seemed like they were cherishing their moment humiliating the boy. Even Desmond who was now under the grasp of the operatives wasn't treated as harshly as they were doing to Brody. At that point, it seemed like they had a score to settle with him. His connections with Alan Greyson and Della were also a huge problem for him.Suddenly Brody was hearing voices amidst the terribly banging pain.“We need to secure him before any more trouble arises.”“It’s always something mysterious when it comes to this kid.”“Finally the boss will be satisfied with us having him. I can't believe it took us long to capture him.”“Now I want to see Alan’s face when he finds out that Brody is in our grasp. I hope Mr. Lawrence does something similar to what happened with Rose.”“I don't trust this kid. There is something off him. I think we should finish him off because he gives us more problems but that’s up to the boss.”“Why are we even delaying to take him with us. We need to be quick with this. What
CHAPTER 324
Desmond was quick as he vanished into the trees, seeking refuge from the boy’s unexpected strength. Panic drove him forward without him even mentioning a word to Brody. He had never seen something of that nature before. If he could break the ankles and dismantle the joints of 13 trained operatives, no doubt remaining there with Brody would mean his doom.Brody was a mystery to himself, being horrified by the power he possessed through which he was able to cause so much destruction to the operatives.Brody had disarmed each one of them of their weapons and threw them to the side such that none of them could crawl over to where Brody had hidden their weapon. Some of the operatives with a stubborn spirit tried to reach for their weapons which Brody had tossed over to the side but the pain that Brody had inflicted on them outweighed their attempts to reach for their weapons.Brody was shaken and unsure of himself. He banging pain and whirring sound in his head was no longer there. It a
CHAPTER 325
Della knew that there was no way that Brody could have taken down 13 trained operatives. So who came there? Who was responsible for what she was witnessing? She needed some explanation. She wasn't sure if the kid had some role in what had happened but how could he? This was clearly the work of some high-level mercenary, she reasoned. She pressed further, insisting on knowing the truth and yet maintaining some kindness and gentleness in her disposition. “Come on, Brody. Don't hide anything from me. We have gone too far already even though we are only seeing each other for the first time.”“You won't hide anything from me, would you?”Alan was the only person with some skill who was also on Brody’s side who could have come to the aid of the kid but Alan was with her all along. Could he be in two places all at the same time?“Did anybody come around here to help you with all of these? You know you can't receive help from just anyone.”“Not even anyone who claims to be your friend is you
CHAPTER 326
With a cunning movement, the agent attempted to grab his gun without drawing attention, his injured body straining as he stretched out his arm.One more stretch was what he needed to get a hold of his firearm but his attempt did not escape the watchful eyes of Jackson who called out Alan’s attention immediately.“Alan, watch out!” Jackson yelled, his voice laced with Alarm.Alan’s heart quickened and his body tensed as he reached out for the firearm before the operative could. With a fierce sway of the hands, Alan had a hold of the weapon and the bullets flew with a silent spray of protection.Pow!The fallen operative lay lifeless for a moment and in a short while, more bullets flew. The other 12 operatives were all hit by Alan’s fierce act.The gunshots echoed with a silent crack of destruction and a burst of devastation as all the operatives became as stiff as a stone, their stillness portraying a silent illustration of oblivion.Even though Brody was well aware of what had just ha
CHAPTER 327
He seemed to be having the upper hand in the conversation allowing him to hide his own little secret. But Brody’s question was drowned out by a loud warning, signaling danger.“Seemed like we have that dimwit coming after us,” Della spoke as she raised her binoculars, spotting danger on the horizon. Her sharp vision allowed her to see the danger that was coming.*****Back at Mr. Lawrence’s hotel suite, the air was charged with a sense of urgency. The luxurious hotel setting was a hub of clandestine activities as walls were lined with various surveillance monitors and a sophisticated communication system deep within the hotel suite.Mr. Lawrence was the main man - There was no one he couldn't have what he wanted. His operatives knew it and they couldn't afford to disappoint him. Every hand had to be on deck to ensure that Mr. Lawrence’s desire came to fruition.Retractable walls and false ceilings masked the real purpose and the hotel suite.Mr. Lawrence only got into his high-tech f
CHAPTER 328
Mr. Lawrence’s eyes widened with a horrified bulge of shock. The next event in the live footage saw Alan Greyson put a bullet into the 13 trained operatives. The footage left him stunned and speechless, his mind reeling from the unexpected turn of events. How could Alan arrive so quickly to help Brody? How easy could it have been for Alan to kill 13 trained operatives? Perhaps he shouldn't have underestimated Alan, he reasoned. For the first time, the fear of Alan Greyson soared through Mr. Lawrence’s veins. But he wasn't going to accept defeat so easily. Alan belonged in one of his dungeons and there was nothing that was going to change it. Alan was only good for a slave and everything that looked like good fortune that happened to Alan was only an illusion.Mr. Lawrence was not ready to back down at the slightest. How could he pass up on the humiliation that scum Della? The first time was great - How much more getting to do it again? Her ending would be just like that of her usele
CHAPTER 329
The captain hesitated, weighing the options of having Mr. Lawrence go with them. His duty was to ensure that his boss was safe at all times and he wasn't sure if this was one of the operations that he should accompany them with.Perhaps he should try to convince the boss, he reasoned. The manner in which the 13 operatives were cut off was somewhat surprising to even the captain. The footage replayed in his mind over and over again as he recalled that Alan didn't even seem to have gone through any stress in taking them out.He knew some of the 13 fallen operatives were now eliminated and they were no small men - he knew how tough they were. He had gone to military training schools with several of them and they all knew each other's strengths and even weaknesses.Even if Alan could have eliminated a few of them, he should have suffered some damage - maybe a broken arm or twisted knee in the process of battling the operatives. The captain, although wearing a tough face wondered if the el
CHAPTER 330
He wondered why Alan and Della had not taken to their feet when they heard about the impending danger.Did Alan think that he was able to take down this new set of operatives? Jackson reasoned.“Mr. Lawrence’s would have men flanking us from the forest if we try escaping that way,” Alan’s voice was firm yet calm, conveying urgency without panic.“I think we have to find safety inside the mud house. That’s the safest place at this moment.”“We can't go out there into the forest, that’s where they will be expecting us.”“Also, the forest is treacherous. We could face hidden dangers that we are not prepared for.”“Trust me, we are better off inside the mud house.”With time ticking away, the men chose to trust Alan’s judgment. They just had to hope that Alan was right because their lives were at stake.Their initial reservations were suppressed by Alan’s lead. The group darted into the mud house, hoping to evade detection.Alan’s initial attempt to extract information from Brody about wh
