Chapter 141
Adrian smiled at the defying words of Kevin and didn't try to dissuade him from such silly notions. He glanced at Blinks who smiled at him. “You see Kevin, we are going to get what we want even if you are not willing to give it to us or not,” he said with a chuckle, smiling weirdly at the man. He sat up and went into the man’s inner room. Adrian was in a state where he wasn't necessarily processing things well, a lot of stuff was radiating on his mind, so he left the entire information retrieval to Blinks. He has been trying to still calm himself down from the after effect of that building exploding and him thinking Rose was in it. He discovered soon enough that he would rather be at death's door than for Rose to be in danger. He couldn't bear the pain of losing her and he knew this world he was living in would always be put to harm him and everything he loved. Before it was just friends that surrounded him and while he held a sheer determination to protect them, he’s never develop
Chapter 142
The bullet sunk into the man’s shoulder and Kevin groaned in pain. Adrian smiled, placing his foot on that wound and this time their host yelled in pain. His entire body was trembling from the pain and although Adrian didn't necessarily enjoy it, he didn't mind hearing him scream. It was a little payback for almost killing his fiance and he glanced at him now, with cold dead eyes. “You will answer my question now and it is a very simple one,” he said with a smile and then opened the gun just to view its inner barrel, then closed it back. He pressed the gun to Kevin's head and then pulled the trigger. The gun clicked and then Adrian clicked his tongue. “You are such a lucky person,” he said with a smile. There is only one last bullet in this gun and I have rearranged the barrel. I myself don't know when the bullet will shoot so for every question you don't answer, I am going to try to put an end to your pathetic life,” he said. “I don't know when your luck will run out, I hope it isn
Chapter 143
When the car jolted to a stop, Adrian woke up immediately, he glanced at Rose who was at the driver's seat and she smirked at him. “Are you so sleepy that you cannot give basic instructions?” She demanded, shaking her head.Adrian sighed. Throughout the journey, Rose had tried getting him to give her directions to the hospital his mom was supposed to be in but the latter made them miss their turn twice before he finally had her search up the name of the place on the online map. Ge drifted into a long sleep after that, as they were already about forty minutes out. They were there now and she was giving him an attitude. That was one of the things he liked most about her; she knew how to control her emotions and always wanted him to be happy. He looked at her and didn't reply but gave her a terse smile before pushing the door open, she rolled her eyes and got out of the car, glancing at the hospital building before turning to him. I didn't think my introduction to your parents would be
Chapter 144
His mom sighed and then sat on the bed, still holding hands with Rose, Adrian rolled his eyes in jealousy. The biggest thing he wanted in his day to day life was his wife and mother to be best of friends and take turns bullying him. He shook his head and then turned to her as she began to speak. This was the first time Adrian actually took a good look at her for a while. Past the injuries and all, she seemed a bit younger, fairer even. Even though she seemed to have been hurt, she seemed happier than she had been in a while. Her brown eyes shone brighter than normal. She looked at him with a lit up face. “Stop scanning me, I am okay,” she said. “What happened wasn't much of anything sincerely, I think the doctor overreacted, Ian overreacted a lot!” “Ian?” Adrian asked with a smile. The way she spoke the name created a sense of familiarity that he didn't expect. Was his mother seeing someone now? That would actually be great if she was. Well is that why she seemed happier and liveli
Chapter 145
They arrived at his mother's house late into the night, the entire events of the day had taken much of their energy. The quiet of the evening was broken only by the occasional rustle of leaves in the wind and the distant call of a night bird. His mother’s house was a small and cozy one and Adrian made a passing joke about it as they entered. His mother, although a little excited to be with her son and wanting to speak to him as long as possible, didn't press them much, she could sense their weariness. They exchanged only a few words, the bare minimum needed to catch up on pleasantries, before the weight of their exhaustion overcame them all.Adrian and Rose, barely able to keep their eyes open, gratefully accepted the offer of the spare room. It was the only one in the house, but it was comfortable, although she had to remove multiple children's diagrams from there. Apparently, she invited multiple children to her house on Sundays for a drawing session. The room was modest, with a si
Chapter 146
The moment he got off the phone, he turned to the two women who were watching him intently, their eyes filled with curiosity. They had noticed the shift in his tone during the call, sensing that something significant had happened. Rose, the more assertive of the two, immediately rose from her seat and walked over to him. Her eyes, usually calm and composed, now revealed a flicker of frustration. "What's wrong this time?" she asked, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. It was a gesture meant to offer him support, but Adrian could see the weariness in her expression. This life they were leading, filled with danger and uncertainty, was taking its toll on her. Rose was accustomed to living on the edge, but it was clear that she was growing tired of it all, even though she tried to hide it.Adrian took a deep breath before replying, "It's Hargreaves. Kevin’s stupid stunt lande her in the hospital." His voice was calm, but it was laced with concern, he understood what Rose was going
Chapter 147
The next day, Adrian woke up with a start, he didn't necessarily sleep well, his nights were plagued with dreams and they were disturbing to say the least. He had dreamt of Rose dying over and over again and this put him in a haughty mood all morning. He had slept in his quarters in the Brooks' home ground and the entire setting made him feel even worse. He sat up and decided to get up with his morning exercises. It's been a long time since he's done that he was either rushing to go to work early in the morning or he was trying to run from death. After he was done with the exercises he decided to call Rose and check up on her. The girl had gone to her father's house and she felt safe there more than anywhere else. Although he didn't really want her to leave, he knew her safety was paramount and he wasn't going to joke with that. He picked up his phone and called her, the phone rung for almost ten seconds before she picked it up. “Who the hell is this disturbing my morning sleep?” S
Chapter 148
He scanned the garden and soon enough, he discovered another dead bird in the distance. He furrowed his brows, a little confused. He glanced around his entire garden, trying to figure out what was wrong. He dropped the bird on the floor immediately and began to examine its body for any signs of injury, but he couldn't see any. He went to the second bird and saw the same thing. This one in fact had a tomato skin glued to the upper part of the beak and Adrian could see it was eating from his tomato. He’d never tried to chase pests away from the farm ever since he got full ownership of it. He’d disregard every procedure to keep them away, since he had no interest in eating from it per say. He just liked the sentimental feeling the garden provided him. He picked up the two birds, plucked two of his tomatoes and carried them out of the garden. Just as he was going in, he encountered Maria and her twins on the way. The lady glanced at him and averted her eyes immediately. The children on
Chapter 149
Adrian could see how much pride his mom had in him when he picked up the phone to call Blinks, he could see the corners of her lips twisting into a smile. She was enjoying the moment and the reason she told him to get her a car was because she wanted to see if he could. He smiled, although she never did tell him most things with words and all, he could always pick them up in her subtle actions. She was always guarding against him doing too much or being like his father. She wanted him to be a better person and he could understand that well. He dialed the phone and Blinks picked up. “Hey man,” Adrian greeted. “Hey,” Blinks replied. “What's up?”“Oh nothing much, I was just hoping you can pick me up at the Brooks mansion,” he said. “Me and my mom.”Blinks smiled. “I am in front of the house already. I am still your bodyguard, remember,” he said with a smile. “Can't leave you all by yourself with all this going on, I am going to drive to the front of the gate now,” he said and Adrian
Chapter 150
The car zoomed off and Adrian kept frowning at Blinks who was enjoying the moment. The bodyguard glanced at him and then clicked on the car's mp3 while staring at him slowly. Soon enough a rap song boomed in the car and Blinks began to lip sync to it much to Adrian's annoyance. He was about to tell him to turn it off when his mother joined the synching as both of them began to rhyme to the song. He glanced back at his mom and was surprised that she was into songs like this. Normally she listened to something slow and smooth. The fastest song she’s listened to was Reggae, now she was rhyming a rap song word for word and he began to get really jealous of Blinks. It seemed the guy knew his own mother more than he ever could and it made him feel like he didn't pay much attention to her most of his life. He sighed and just closed his eyes amidst their singing and drifted back into his thoughts. Today he didn't really plan to do anything but now he already had two things on his schedule.
