Caspian felt lost
Caspian's POV It felt like my life was starting all over again. From the loneliness to being directionless, to the fear of not getting anything right, or just running into the wrong crowd. One of the reasons I chose to always stay, no matter how abused or battered I was, was the fear of starting over. Time and again, I would promise myself that I am now bold enough to start over, that I was ready to put it all behind me and I would take responsibility for myself, but all those times, I end up failing, time and again. As little as it is that I had, it wasn’t easy to set out, leave it all behind and pretend like it all never happened.I sat at the border for well over an hour, shedding tears. I felt rejected and abandoned. This was the second time in four weeks that I had to be sent out of a pack really quietly. Even though in both cases, I realized it was to help me, it still felt like a lot on my weary heart. At this stage, I wasn’t even demanding to be fed and taken care of, lik
The old lady’s words
Caspian's POV “Who I am is not as relevant as who needs to be, if you are going to pull through life, as you know it.”I raised my brow, taking in her statement. It made sense in a way but on the other hand, I needed her to answer the question. “How do you know me? What are you talking about?” I probed. “Caspian, only those without knowledge of the goddess and the forces that help the various spheres of our world wouldn’t know who you are,” she spoke very confidently, filling me with curiosity that was stemming from fear.“It is quite sad that you have lived your whole life around people who would not recognize greatness, even if it hit them in the face,” “What is so sad however, is not their inability to recognize what you are. What is sad is that their opinions of you are forming what you now believe about yourself,” the old woman continued. Though her voice was frail, it didn’t stop her words from flying straight to my chest and provoking deep thoughts from me. “Seeing what y
Nana's advice
Caspian's POV“Now, you have to pick up what pieces of your life now exist,” she advised me, as we walked back into the cottage from the back of the house where we went to receive fresh air..I couldn’t possibly keep the ash of blood and barely formed flesh.‘Nana’ as she instructed me to call her, had spent the last two days giving me pep-talks on how to pick myself up and live up to the standards that my mother had set before her passing. Despite Nana’s encouraging words of how much she believes I can, especially since I had my mother’s body now, I didn’t feel as confident.I knew it needed more than just being reborn in somebody’s body to be as fierce as they were, and with how highly Nana speaks of her, it felt like work just to exist in her body. Thanks to Nana, I didn't feel the heaviness of my parents death as much as I would and I was ready to face the world. “I think it's time to return to the lab and save those children,” I was walking to the kitchen of the cottage to mak
Nana's Tricks
Caspian's POV “Alex!” I yelled. “Who was that?” the guards immediately said, looking around for me. I had broken the rule of not speaking, and I wasn’t sure what Nana did, but I was too stiff to move a muscle. “There’s no one here except me,” Nana responded. If I didn’t know any better, I would have been afraid that the men were right before me and yet couldn’t see me. I understood it was one of Nana’s tricks, but it didn’t stop me from getting a little scared, especially as the rest of their visit unfolded. “Someone here said something, I can swear to it,” one of the guards almost pushed Nana out of the way, forcing himself through. Despite his effort, he was unable to move Nana out of the way, to the surprise of all the men. “Young man, I wouldn’t force my way into an old woman’s home, if I were you,” the advice in her voice was as loud as the threat. Somehow, we were all clear that the guard had consequences coming his way, if he pushed any further.“Look, old lady, I hear
Nana's strong discipline on me
Caspian's POV “What do you want from me?” I fired the question I felt was long overdue at this point. “I want you to be a better person,” I was being honest, Nana disgusted me with that reply. ‘The nerve of her to speak those words to my face,’ I thought. I looked deep into her eyes, wanting to be sure that she was serious- that from the bottom of hearts she wanted me to believe that the last couple of her actions were to make me better. “At this point, Caspian, I realize if ever you’re going to learn, it might have to be the hard way, under firm discipline, and I do not care if you see me as a witch, you are going to learn anyways,” Nana said with a firm tone. “Isn’t that what you are?” I fired at her, “A witch, a sorceress, isn’t that what you are?” I stared intensely into her eyes.“You expect me to believe that you have my best interest at heart, when all you’ve done is manipulate me?”“If you cared about me in the slightest, you would have even begun by saving Alex from th
The Revelation
Caspian's POV “Nana,” I was dumbstruck. “You were my mother’s mother?” I probed. Honestly, as much as I didn’t want to understand what was going on, it explained so much. For starters, it justified the reason she felt comfortable enough to dish out orders to me. I had no words for hours, neither did I walk away to process the information. Nana and I just stayed there, staring at each other in silence, until minutes ran into an hour and thirty minutes. On the one hand, I was excited to have found my family, on the other hand, the thought that she hated my mother and only realized at the brink of death, terrified me of the kind of family that she was, especially as she did not hesitate to come down heavily on me at the slightest thing. “Do you ever think that if you had stood by her, supporting her decision to follow her mate, she would have been alive today?” I asked Nana, “Just maybe, things would have turned out differently if you had tried to love and accept her, respecting he
Alex's Appearance
Caspian's POV “Hello ladies, breakfast?” We kept staring at him and weren't quite sure what to say. We watched him walk out of the kitchen and to the dining table, where he served the meal he had cooked up. “Common, don't look at me like that,” he said with a broad smile, “I mean, you both were nice enough to be so welcoming, the least I can do was breakfast,” then he looked around for a bit, “Boy, it sure looked like you all had a long exhausting night,” I turned to Nana. She wasn't as awestruck as I was, because I had lost every sense of thought and feelings. I was completely numb. “Well, Alex, it's very impolite to barge in, and it doesn't matter if you met the door wide open, I am a witch,” Nana gave off a subtle threat. “Yea, don't you see how terrified I am,” Alex made a joke, and erupted in laughter. I wasn't sure why he was taking her statement lightly, but just before I wish he did not, Nana joined him in laughter. It felt like the top cover of my head had been blown
sacrifices for me
Caspian's POV I gave Nana and Alex a death stare, wondering why they would suggest that I go back to where I was coming from.I was caught in a dilemma.I could tell that the look on their faces expressed the need to go back there.Without exchanging words we all stood there staring at each other.‘What if I got there and the Alpha had me massacred’, I set back, musing my words.“ Alex, why would you suggest that I go back to Red - moon pack,” when you knew exactly how I reached here. I fired at him.Nana still mused in her thoughts, sat quietly and watched the drama going on between me and Alex.“Caspian, it's for the benefits of you and the entire pack.” He responded.“I rather die in the woods than go back to where I know I can't make it.” I said.“Caspian dear, you would have to go back there,” Nana answered.I was shocked to hear that Nana would agree to my going back to the Alpha.“Amanda’s mating to the Alpha, was faked, Caspian.” He said.“ How do you mean their mating was fa
Alex packaged Nana's ashes
Caspian's POVThere was no control of the tears that were streaming down my cheeks, watching Nana burn in the fire that Alex had set over her. I could feel myself stink of bad luck. It was almost like everywhere I showed up to, I cost them a huge fortune. The pain this time around was the cost being Nana. Just when I was about to rejoice that I finally had someone to call family, someone with whom I shared blood with and I didn’t have to convince myself that family did not have to mean blood, she was snatched from my hands, and I watched helplessly while it played.Nana was already largely burnt, so her body did not take more than an hour to become ashes, through which we watched. “Common, let’s go,” Alex said, after he put Nana’s ashes in the jar he constructed from leaves. I heard him loud and clear, I just couldn’t bring myself to move an inch away. Alex held me by the arm and softly pushed me away. We returned to the tree, where Nana finally gave up. It was a perfect spot f
My new path
Caspian's POVIt took hours of walking and at midday, I finally felt like I was far away—as far away as I wanted to be from all the chaos that had somehow webbed around me. Finding myself out in the middle of nowhere and alone was something I would naturally dread, but not this time. I looked around me for a while, knowing exactly what I wanted to do, but left with one problem—how I was going to do it. I needed to raise a wooden structure to house me, as my location already seemed like one that was going to have a lot of sumptuous animals for food. There was not a single tool in sight, so felling the trees and putting them together was a problem I had to find a solution to.Before kick starting my journey, I knew it was going to come with its challenges, the only difference now was that I was actually ready for the challenges. I sat down and took deep breaths. ‘I am the smartest werewolf alive and I got this,’ I continued chanting in a low tone, hoping to trigger ideas out of me.
