Lair Of The Beast
Frowning, Karla thought to herself, “Blood—I sense a dense bloody aura coming from deep inside the alley.”Exercising her powers to enhance her senses, Karla tried to sense deeply and indeed found that she was correct. She could sense a thick bloody aura lingering in the alley deep within. It was like a lot of blood had been spilled all over the place and left to linger without being cleaned up.But that wasn’t all, because the bloody aura was also heavy with different sensations that only Karla could identify, as if it was mixed with different kinds of blood coming from various sources. It reminded Karla of a slaughterhouse where different animals were butchered together……or the wilds where different exotic beasts preyed on each other for survival. That’s it!That is what Karla felt as she sensed the bloody aura inside the alley—like she was back in the exotic beast-infested wilds where the slightest mistake would bring her close to the jaws of death. The only difference between the
Lead Obtained
Hearing Karla’s instructions, Bolin finally stopped speaking and took a breath of air just like Karla said. Noticing this, Karla spoke up once again after a few moments had passed.“Okay, from the beginning, what did you say you did after I disappeared?”Bolin answered, “Well, I thought something had happened to you so I immediately ran over to your place where I caught somebody sneaking around in young Cale’s room. He must have been one of the people you said was following you so since I only saw him there I immediately captured him.”Hearing this part, Karla was immediately excited.“Really, you managed to capture one of them? That’s great! Hold on a second, are you still at the apartment?”In her excitement, Karla immediately changed her plans. She wasn’t in a hurry to report what she had discovered first but instead wanted to see the person Bolin had captured. It was likely one of Hive’s people because Cale had told Karla that he had instructed all of his people to only track her
Secret Meeting
“So that’s what happened…”Several minutes later, Bolin and Karla were gathered in a secluded location together with the rest of their teammates and Karla had just explained everything she had learned from Cale to all of them.Silence fell in the room as everybody contemplated what they had just learned for a little while. Eventually, Comb was the first to speak up, breaking the silence in the room.“So that’s what happened to the brat. Who would’ve thought?”Comb’s tone was very flippant as if he didn’t care about the matter at all, but nobody minded him knowing that he wasn’t actually like that. Being one of the members of the team that was close to Cale besides Karla and Bolin, Comb really cared about the young man, often gifting him some souvenirs from his workshop which Cale often complained about, saying that Comb was giving him scrap from his junkyard workshop that he didn’t need anymore. In the end, the two of them got along very well so if anybody was going to care about what
Regrets And Surprises
“You’re right, Comb… I shouldn’t have let Kaleb go and I regret it even now.”Hearing Karla say this, everybody turned to look at her. Bolin’s eyes were filled with deep concern for Karla, knowing exactly how she felt. He knew that saying those words would not have been easy at all and that it took a lot of courage for Karla to admit it.Comb, on the other hand, while gleaming triumphantly for being right, said to Karla, “So you agree with me. It’s nice to see that. Unfortunately, it is too late already now that the damage has been done. We can only look for other ways to deal with this matter.”At this point, Bolin was about to rage at Comb once again for how insufferable he was being, but Karla actually beat him to the punch, continuing to speak like she hadn’t heard Comb’s words at all.“I regret letting Kaleb leave, but not because it was wrong to do so. Had I known that Bolin had captured one of their people, I would’ve let him stay a little longer so he could use his powers to g
Nene’s Disposition Toward Insensitivity
Leaving everything else aside, Karla responded to the remark Nene made offhandedly.“It’s impossible to rely on Kaleb’s powers to send this person to the enemy to cause an upset from within. They are already aware of Kaleb’s powers, and since we captured their man, they might assume Kaleb got him under his control, and they’ll definitely not let him return easily, if at all.”“Great, so we are back to square one, aren’t we? Not having a bloody clue to go on with because you let that brat leave,” Comb said, feeling angsty and irritated.“Drop it, Comb… don’t bring that up again,” Bolin pleaded with exasperation. But then Nene said something that made both Bolin and Comb look at him with venomous eyes.“Or we could just do nothing and leave this matter as it is, like it doesn’t concern us—which it actually doesn’t, by the way.”“…”“What?!”“Are you suggesting we do nothing while there are people out there hunting for one of our own? Is that what you’re telling me, you bastard?”Comb wa
Predictions Of The Future
The meeting came to a close and everybody went off to do their own stuff, leaving only Karla and Captain Blanche in the room. Before Karla left, she walked up to Blanche, who had barely reacted at all during the meeting. She wanted to get her input in all this, even though it might not be of any significance at all.“Captain, you with me?” Karla asked, reaching out her hand to gently grasp Blanche’s arm, then giving a light tug.Blanche blinked a few times, as if some old system was rebooting, at which point clarity seemed to return to her eyes. Blanche’s gaze focused, no longer having that far-off look of staring into space, as she turned to look at Karla. After a moment, Blanche said, “Yes, I’m with you?”Blinking, Karla didn’t react much to what just happened, being used to it by this point. Instead, she asked, “Did you hear everything we talked about just now?”Nodding, Blanche responded immediately, “I did… I heard everything.”“So what do you think?” Karla asked again. This time
Entering The Underground Fight Club
Roar!Yeahhhhh!Wooooo!Excitement filled the air as loud, fervent cries rang throughout the indoor stadium that housed the underground fighting ring where two figures were currently duking it out with each other.Below the ring, a crowd of wide-eyed spectators gathered, yelling at the top of their lungs as the two fighters attacked each other. With every swing of the blade and every punch thrown in retaliation, the crowd would roar with ever-increasing fervor, the intensity of which seemed abnormally induced, like they were all high on excitement.Standing in the middle of the crowd, a single masked individual observed everything calmly with a demeanor that was disconnected from the rest of the crowd, yet no one noticed him, the fighters in the ring drawing every attention in the stadium. The masked figure was Cale, and like the others, he watched the match happening in the ring with interest.“Without a doubt, this is the underground fighting club that Karla told me about… who would
Cerule’s Transcendent Path
Cale watched the fighters in the ring with rapt attention. It was his first time witnessing other awakened individuals using their powers like this. The battle he fought back in the laboratory didn’t count. Back then, he was the one fighting for his life against a multitude of enemies, each with different abilities, that Cale didn’t have any time to study and analyze, unlike now where he was simply a spectator watching the fighters from the sidelines. From this view, Cale was able to get a whole new appreciation for awakened individuals and their powers—especially in this case with the two duking it out on the stage—their powers were simple. With what Cale had been able to see so far, the burly man was simply a physical augmenting awakened with powers that enhanced his physique and strength but didn’t give him much else in the way of offensive ability, so he had to rely on the large mechanical sword, leveraging his great strength to achieve destructive capabilities.Analyzing the burl
Comparing Professions
“A profession eh… I wonder which would suit me best?”Watching the fighters in the ring, Cale’s mind wandered to what he knew about the various professions in Cerule and which one he would be better suited for given his powers. The burly fighter in the ring could be called a mechanical fighter, just like Nene. They both could use their mana to activate and control mechanical weapons and equipment, with a slight difference existing between them. For the burly fighter, he was simply using his mana to activate the power of the mechanical sword to create powerful vibrations that increased the sharpness and lethality of the sword with an additional trait that granted it an area-of-effect ability. Other than that, the burly fighter was simply relying on his strength to wield the mechanical sword like a normal weapon.Nene, on the other hand, could bestow the power of the mechanical weapons he wielded on himself, allowing him to wield its power like it was originally his in the first place.
Sneaky Tactics
“How sneaky…”Cale watched with surprise as he saw the second fighter deliver a sweeping kick at his opponent, sending a huge wave of concussive airflow that was aimed at the partially exposed part of his legs and lower body where the defense of the large mechanical sword wasn’t as strong. All along, the second fighter had only been using punches during the fight, never once closing in to perform a kick attack on the burly man, instead opting to use his legs to evade and dodge, making people believe that he could only throw blows, not knowing that he was actually holding back as a trump card to use in this kind of situation.Judging from how surprised the audience was, it looked like Cale wasn’t the only one fooled by this tactic, as even those regular spectators that were fairly familiar with him were also caught off guard.Immediately after the second fighter performed the surprise attack, the crowd was suddenly filled with an even more intense fervor of excitement and woe.
