A Flawed Move
The dust quickly settled and the audience immediately saw the outcome of the burly fighter’s attack. Much to everyone’s surprise, Cale was unharmed, having managed to dodge the seemingly unavoidable attack without going out of bounds.Frowning hard, the burly fighter picked himself up from the floor, stepping out of the small pit his attack had created to look at Cale, who was standing unscathed on the ring to his left. There was not even so much as a scratch on Cale, him donning a leisurely expression on his face as if it hadn’t been a difficult feat at all.Staring intently at Cale, the burly fighter remembered what had happened back then when he had attacked Cale.It had happened so fast—in the moment just before the sword hit Cale, the burly fighter thought he had seen Cale vanish before his eyes, leaving only a blur behind as the sword finally landed and swept up a wave of dust. The next thing he knew, Cale was already beyond his reach and the burly fighter was left wondering wha
All Out Strike
Cale shot toward his opponent, flying head-on like he intended to crash into him. Quickly recovering from his earlier daze, the burly man let out a loud shout at Cale as he swung his sword at him.“Is this how you want to prove my move is flawed… by charging straight at me? Eat my sword!”The burly fighter’s sword swung through the air without any resistance, aiming to cleave Cale into two from head to toe. But in the next moment, before his very eyes, Cale suddenly vanished, and without even time to blink, he appeared once again beside the burly fighter. What! The burly fighter was shocked. Cale’s speed was greater than before, making it so that the fighter could not even detect any signs of him moving at all. It was as if he had teleported from one spot to another in an instant. Before he could even process what had happened, the burly man felt a heavy hit on his body as Cale punched him directly on the exposed side of the burly man’s torso that was left open due to his wide swing.
Meeting The Boss
Zip!A flash of white light burst out in the ring, spreading out to cover the entire club and blinding everything in a haze of brightness.Cale’s move was a simple forward charge as he flew headfirst at his opponent and ran into him with blinding speed, the result of which left everybody unable to see what was happening. But just as the flash of light appeared, so too did it disappear, and when everybody looked at the ring again there was only one person standing in it—that person was naturally Cale.Bang! It was at this moment that a loud crashing sound echoed throughout the club and when everybody turned to look at where it came from, they were shocked to see a hole on the wall of the club where Cale’s opponent, the burly fighter, was imbedded deep within, eyes glazed over with only the whites visible and his mouth open in a silent scream that had blood gushing out of it. He was completely unconscious!Everybody could only watch as the burly fighter’s bulky body rapidly deflated, as
Meeting The Boss 1
Cale’s current location was an enclosed room located at the very end of a tunnel passage, like a vast antechamber hidden underground. The place was crawling with armed goons patrolling every inch of the place, with the very center of the chamber being arranged in a sophisticated manner with tables and chairs carrying exquisitely prepared food and drinks that suggested the arrival of guests was expected. There was only one person sitting at the head of the table enjoying a lustrous meal, and Cale’s eyes immediately zoomed in on this person. It was a tall man who was dressed in a simple gray suit that appeared drab in the incandescent lighting yet still managed to make him appear fashionable and elegant. With a straight back and humbly neutral face that only appeared expressive while he savored the meal in front of him, this man revealed a silent but commanding presence, making him stand out even more from the rest of the goons in the chamber. Without having to be told, Cale knew that
Meeting The Boss 2
After telling off his goons, the boss of the fight club finally looked at Cale and addressed him.“Come forward and sit with me. Don’t mind those people who simply lack any manners at all. Eat, drink, and relax, you are my guest here and nobody will do anything to you without my order.”Easily catching the subtle meaning behind the boss’s words, Cale complied, walking forward to accept the boss’s invitation to sit at the table. There were only three chairs beside the table, one of which was already occupied by the boss, leaving two empty ones located very close to him. Picking one of the empty chairs, Cale walked over to sit down while observing the surroundings around the boss.To be more specific, Cale was observing the area behind the boss. Although it looked like nothing was there, Cale could sense an anomaly in the space behind the boss, leaving him to suspect a few things. One of the anomalies Cale could figure out—from what he could sense—was a large empty space behind the wall
Escalation
“Speaking of your fight, I have to say, I was very impressed,” the boss said.He continued, “Like I said, it was very spectacular, especially the last move you used to clinch your victory, which even till now I still cannot figure out. Can you tell me how you did it?”Hearing the boss’s request, Cale answered directly, explaining how he had won against the burly fighter.“I have the power to manipulate space. It grants me abilities like flight and teleportation. By integrating myself into the spatial membrane of the void, I can move freely without any restrictions from gravity and other physical elements of force, including inertia. During this, I can accelerate to nigh-infinite speeds, surpassing the speed of sound and approaching the speed of light.”“Of course, the strength of my body limits the amount of speed I can actually achieve, but you get the idea. The way I won is by simply ramming into my opponent like a cannonball at an incredibly high speed, which effectively knocked hi
The Trap Is sprung
Although Cale hadn’t met Trevor personally—at least not while conscious—he still recognized him plainly due to the warning from Selene. According to her, she felt that Trevor was off, like something about him didn’t quite fit, and Cale was wise enough to listen to any warning from her.Especially now, in this instance where someone of Trevor’s identity—that is, him being a researcher and all—shouldn’t belong at all. Yet here he was amidst gangbangers and criminals with several weapons pointed at his face, yet not a single care could be seen as he stared down the boss of the fight club.Cale watched as both sides were in a face-off against each other, and he tried to retreat a little, but that ended up drawing the attention of the boss, who quickly looked at Cale and warned,“Eh, eh, eh… I wouldn’t move around if I were you. With all these weapons armed and ready to go off at the slightest moment, I’d hate for you to get hurt by accident. After all, you’re still my guest, and I have to
Backstab
Watching as Cale’s face turned ugly after realizing that he had completely fallen into their trap, the boss of the fight club immediately smiled and said to him with a mischievous grin, “What’s the matter, young man? Not so confident anymore? What do you think of my hospitality now… is it very much to your liking? I went through a lot of effort to get everything ready for you on time, of course with a little help from my associates, that is. If not for their help, I would never have gotten my hands on such technology as sophisticated as this. I have you to thank for that, so I’ll be sure to express my utmost gratitude to you while you are with me.” The boss of the fight club talked with a certain flourish, making it clear that he enjoyed being dramatic. But Cale completely ignored him as his mind spun, coming up with countermeasures to deal with the situation. With the spatial lock, Cale could not call any of his men to back him up, leaving him completely stranded in enemy territor
Backstab 1
The way Cale saw it, there was a conflict of interest between both parties, and it looked like the boss didn’t want to hold up his end of whatever bargain he had with Hive and let Trevor have Cale. Things couldn’t be better for Cale as it was. He was eager to see the two of them clash with each other—better yet, if they fought at loggerheads with each other and came to blows, Cale would like that even more. That would give him enough time to gather enough mana to deal with this situation. Trevor was very impatient and said to the boss, not willing to waste any time with him at all, “Do you know what you are doing right now? You are playing a very dangerous game, that’s what you’re doing.” Honestly, if not for his superior who planned all of this and told Trevor to handle the matter with discretion, he wouldn’t have bothered to even say anything at all to the boss, who was obviously filled with greed. As soon as he had pointed a weapon at him in the first place, Trevor would’ve d
Ambush In The Darkness
“Who turned off the lights? Get them back on now!”As soon as the lights went off in the chamber, the boss’s urgent shout immediately sounded as he cautiously ordered the lights to be turned back on. There was a shuffle of unease within the darkness as the goons moved their feet, trying to see in the dark to spot where the targets were.Thud!Suddenly, there was a muffled sound of something hitting the ground, followed by another, and another occurring in quick succession of each other. The sounds came and went in less than a second, but nobody knew what was causing them, leaving only their imaginations to conjure an explanation for the sudden occurrence.Beginning to panic slightly, the boss—his body flanked by two individuals wearing power armor suits that had suddenly appeared after the lights went out—retreated slightly more into their defensive area while calling out with increasing urgency.“Lights, somebody turn on the lights, damn it! I need to know what the hell is going on,
