Chapter 21: Cursed Relics
Haruto frowned ever so lightly. Tokyo was starting to be basked in darkness. Not the thick one though, it was evening. He could here the distant sound of combustion from vehicle exhausts. Haruto truly wondered was the Branch V lair sound proof? But uhh, that didn't matter right now…right? Apparently, it was time to check the parchments. Hesitating slightly, he took a look at the parchments. Their titles were weird. But it didn't matter. There was something, right above the title of each parchment. It was a blur. But, he was curious, really curious. And then finally… ‘...Yes!’ He could see it now. But, …His vision grew dim and he was soon plunged into an abyss of obsidian.*** Haruto frowned. He hesitated a little, then frowned even more. Something…something wasn't right somewhere, he couldn't quite make out what it is. But he could tell. There was serious wrongness. It really didn't matter though, all that mattered was the parc
Chapter 22: The Astral Order
After reminiscing for a while, Haruto sighed and cautiously picked up all the parchments. Extremely careful not to peek at the blur again. He placed two of the books on the fluffy bed, and sat on the chair beside the table. He poured oil into the lamp and reached out for the matches. Without him noticing, the night had come and the room was getting dark. The previous night, he had been too tired to think about light. Of course, he'd even prefer sleeping in darkness…uhh a few days ago…, but he had studying to do. ‘Crap where's the matches’ He scowled and stood up. After angrily searching for the matches like needle in haystack and not finding it, he sighed and exited the room. …he was going to ask the little girl below. *** The corridor had not changed, and he still wouldn't get used to it. Putting his hands in his pocket, Haruto tried to act cool. But then, he gritted his teeth. ‘Curse cool! I still hate torches!’ Walking briskly, he reac
Chapter 23: Mastering Complex Techniques
By the time Haruto reached his room, it was already pitch black. The night had descended fully. Using pure instincts, he groped for the lamp. After a while, and still not finding it. He hissed in disgust, and withdrew the gold lighter from his pockets. Repeating Sylvaine’s actions, and struggling with it for a while, the lighter made a sharp metal sound, and the flame ignited at its center. Thankfully, until he closed it, and wasn't extremely careful with it, it wouldn't go off. Putting it on again would have been really demanding. Using the dim light, he found the lamp. Then he brought the small flame near it, then ignited it. The shadows fled, and his eyes adjusted to the familiar, dull light. Basking the room in its subtle, mundane radiance. With a heavy sigh, he crashed into the chair beside the table. And glancing at the parchments, he grimaced. ‘This is going to be a long, long night’ He glanced at the clock on the wall, in front of his
Chapter 24: Undead Slayer
A figure stood at an opening. Like a shadow casted by pale, dawn light. Slowly and surely, darkness made way for the light. Only present in tranquil quantities. Making the sky look bleak. Well, neglecting the beautiful clouds of course. Haruto had slept very late and woke up early. Shame on that saying…he who sleeps early wakes up early. Although, he could simply have woken up late, he would've missed his chance, the chance to master the second technique. Oh, how ecstatic he was. Surely, that would’ve been dire, wouldn't it? He stared into the large expanse of the white heavenly blockade just outside the window. The sight of it looked reserved and tranquil. As if hiding the horrors of midnight. The fog was rather beautiful. He had chosen to put out the lamp light before he slept. So, there was currently no source of light in his room. Not that it mattered. The Astral Oracle was a simple, yet complex technique. First, he had to guide energy towards his co
Chapter 25: Transmigrated Into a Dark Fantasy World as a Delicate Lady.
For a while, Haruto's vision was swallowed by an impregnable darkness. Strangely, it felt… nostalgic. Once again, the power of sight had been stolen from him. Although not visibly, he tried to grit his teeth in annoyance. Soon enough, his vision began to clear, and his eyes adjusted to the familiar pale, dull light provided by a cluster of logs brought together and licked slowly by a small flame. Ting! [You have discovered the Hollow Spire] Haruto's breath hitched. ‘Eh?’ ‘Where am I?’ The pale light was nearly enough to see the four faces ahead of him and in front of the fire, like he was. The fire cast shadows over their faces. But it was just enough to know what they looked like. They all surrounded the fire — including Haruto. As far as gender was concerned, all three were men. Well, except the one directly opposite him. He had pale blonde hair, short hands, short legs, short body, slightly oversized head that made his grey eyes loo
Chapter 26: A Creature Made From Darkness.
Consumed by terror, Haruto silently crouched behind a stone statue. The darkness was so thick, he was literally ignorant of anything going on. For a while, there was silence. Then, he heard sounds of clashing steel. It made him wonder was whatever horror had shown up made from steel?. Then suddenly, a loud, pained wail disturbed the silence of the eerie darkness. That was the voice of the knight. Haruto gritted his teeth. ‘Being a girl sucks!’ He couldn't exactly tell the whereabouts of the dwarf or the gargoyle. Their group had suddenly scattered immediately the dwarf gave the call. Haruto touched his chest. His heart was beating madly, like a caged beast struggling to break free. His pulses slammed against his ribs. ‘Am I going to die?’ The question hit him and he reminisced. Surely, the system wouldn't want him to die. It had said so on the first day. Right?. There had to be a way. If he was going to kill the spire lord, was
Chapter 27: A Crazy Plan Begets A Befitting Reward
They were silent, and shivering, consumed by fear. Both Haruto and the dwarf. Staring back at the deep black night, immensely tenebrous, miry of deep obsidian. It eclipsed their vision, the dwarf the most. All they could do was stare back at the unwavering gaze of the night. The dwarf was holding a piece of properly tied grass in his hands, with all the might he had left in his joints. Turning his head ever so lightly and robotically, not daring to shift his gaze from the night. Haruto wanted to ask, but he thought better of it and stared back ahead. “Rowan Twig” The dwarf whispered. Haruto twisted his head again, and said, almost silently. “What?” “The women from our village, fetish as they are, say it invokes the spirit of the Rowan god. Chases away evil spirits. They swore to it.” Said the dwarf with a shaky voice. Haruto turned sharply, receiving a corresponding jolt of pain from his hind leg as a result. He groaned in pain. “Shh, keep it l
Chapter 28: A Short Battle With The Night
Even wild beasts needed rest after running for hours. They were soon surrounded by pitch black, eerie darkness again. Haruto could see just fine, but the dwarf had lost his ability to see again. Both of them stood panting heavily with dry raspy gasps. They were out of breath, their stamina reserves had run dry. Of course that was to be expected, since they'd run for…who actually knew how long? Haruto's guess was 20 minutes. But… ‘Curses’ Stopping. They couldn't stop, they just couldn't. The sea would sing soon. Even at this distance, after seeing the sea himself, he felt like he was never going to get out of its reach. ‘Damn it!’ Swallowing hard, Haruto looked at the dwarf and said lowly: “We can't stop” The dwarf nodded. They wanted to continue running, as they'd before they stopped. But something halted them. The shadows suddenly moved. Jagged spikes, miry obsidian filled empty sockets in place of eyeballs, and four long limbs that ended with
Chapter 29: A Mad God's Painting
Now that Haruto was severely wounded, walking that was so hard already, in the unending darkness of the harrowing shore suddenly felt much harder. The dwarf would've helped but the damn creature was just too short. Besides, crouching was the last thing he wanted to do right now. For fear of breaking his already aching back. After all, this body was weak and couldn't withstand so much as he had done in one night. He could've stopped to rest. But that only meant death for the both of them. It was a huge gamble, but they just kept going north in hopes of getting so far away from the reaches of the black sea before the songs began. Gods! They could've been going sideways. But, trying was better than sitting down and doing nothing. Turns out their gamble was right. The dwarf smiled excitedly: “Look! Light” Sure enough, as they moved, the darkness started to dissipate, and dissipate, and dissipate. Until it was no more. Then there was light. A l
Chapter 30: Quantum Malevolence
The thousand piercing punctures was a passive skill. It demanded piercing objects which would be used to pierce the victim at specific locations on the body. And guiding essence…or mana in Haruto's case through the piercing objects, one could circulate that mana through the orifices to wherever the victim was affected in the body and heal it. The only hindrance to this rule was the quality of objects used, one could not just use any. But something like a relic, one injected with essence or any other supernatural element. Which in Haruto's case, was mana. Normally, people who mastered this skill, according to Haruto's guess, would have to carry something like needles around every time. But, wouldn't it be stressful to carry needles around all the time? That was what Haruto thought. More so, the thought of being stabbed by the needles in the pocket wasn't a pleasant one. So, one had to improvise. ‘Not that I even have pockets now’ Unlike other sentinels, he had t
