Behind the Mask
Finally, they reached Richard’s mansion, where the mask party was being hosted. They arrived in the Rolls-Royce, and Dane was still taken aback by the car. Even as they were about to step out, he couldn’t stop admiring it. Jane moved to go alone, but Dane stopped her. “Have you forgotten what Butcher said?” he asked. “We’re a couple, right? So we have to act like one.” He stretched out his arm, elbow bent. Jane rolled her eyes but locked arms with him. “Nice,” Dane said, satisfied. The driver stepped out and opened the door for them. But it wasn’t just them. The whole area was filled with other luxury cars—exotic rides, expensive, rare. Billionaires. Mafias. All here. It was clear this wasn’t just a party—it was a display of power. Dane stepped out of the Rolls-Royce feeling important. Confident. He walked toward the entrance, where about fifteen armed security guards stood by the gate, rifles strapped across their chests. As he approached, one of them raised a hand. “ID.” D
The Mission in the Mansion”
After the man left, Dane immediately pulled out his phone and messaged David, Richard’s right hand.David, where’s the gun in the mansion? I gave you a bag to infiltrate, packed with a gun, bullets, a grenade, and everything I’d need for this operation. Did you forget? Then, he hit send.Inside Richard’s mansion — which was secretly loaded with guns and bullets — Dane’s phone buzzed after two minutes. It was a message from David.“Go upstairs. In the guest bedroom, there’s a wooden box. The gun is inside the bag I left there. Grab it fast — I’m planning to move it soon so no one gets suspicious.”Dane read it and leaned toward Jane. “I’m going now. He told me where the gun is.”“Go,” Jane nodded.Just as Dane turned to walk off, a drunken man staggered toward him and grabbed his arm.“Hey, where are you going, fellow man?” the drunk slurred, barely able to stay on his feet.“You’re drunk. Leave me alone, I’ve got somewhere to be,” Dane said firmly. But the man grinned and held tighter
Final Distribution
As they walked out of the room, they rushed straight to the party immediately. They saw Jane alone. They walked slowly to her. “Did you get a gun?” Jane said. “Yes, I did. Bring your purse. Let me check if this gun fits in it,” he said. Then he brought out a gun from under his trousers. He scanned everywhere. He scanned before he could put it in his waistband. Then immediately he removed it from his waistband and put the gun inside the purse, which he had already loaded with bullets. As he did it, he gave Jane back her purse. “Good,” she said as she closed it back. Then he said, “Have you spotted Richard?” “I haven’t seen Richard today,” Jane said. “Same here, I haven’t. He’s the only one left now for him to show himself. Let me go meet the other men.” He walked to another corner where three men, which were also the same mafia group as he is, were going to pretend to be his bodyguards. He went to them slowly. He gave them three guns already. He gave them three guns which
Chaos at the Masked Ball
A few moments later, while Dane was staring at the stage where Richard was going to appear, his hand was locked around the gun hidden in his suit pocket. A few moments after that, the music finally stopped and people stopped dancing. Everyone was watching. Two masked men appeared first, one on Richard’s left and one on his right. Then everyone began to cheer. The microphone was already set up.“Everyone, thank you for coming. I really appreciate it,” Richard began. “You know my family traditions, and you wouldn’t be here if you didn’t. Thank you for accepting my invitation and coming here safely. It’s been painful for me since my son’s demise. This is a party to show him that even if we can’t see him anymore, we will never forget him. He will always be celebrated.”As he spoke, a lady stepped out with a mask on her hands. She kneeled and raised it up toward him. Richard accepted it and put his mask on.Dane kept his hand on his gun, his gaze fixed on Richard. A few moments later, Rich
Checkmate
“Well, well, Mr. Watkinson,” Richard said, grinning. “Was it you who tried to kill me?” Mr. Watkinson held his ground. “Might have been me. Might not. Frankly, I don’t give a shit. But I’ll tell you this — the moment you speak to me like that again, I swear I’ll kill you.” The entire hall fell into a tense silence. “Oh, really?” Richard sneered. “And how do you intend to do that? With a knife? My men could easily take out yours.” Richard descended the stage slowly as his two men followed. That was when he paused. “Oh, I see,” he muttered. “I’m the one in danger, aren’t I? These two men…” he glanced at them, “they’re yours. Looks like you already took out my men. Sorry for bothering you.” He started to turn back toward the stage. “Do you really think I’ll just let that slide?” Mr. Watkinson snapped. “You speak to me however you want. Have you forgotten your place? You belong in the sewer.” Richard’s face darkened. “Tell your men to lower their guns,” he growled. “They’ve g
Kill point
Richard’s men, who were scouting the place, were looking at the people who had already lain down on the ground. Some hadn’t yet removed their face masks, and they kept watching those few closely. But the ones who caught their eyes were Dane and Jane. Dane was acting suspicious, his hand locked inside his suit jacket on his gun in case anything went wrong. One of Richard’s men approached them and shouted, “Hey! Hey, you two — remove your masks now!”Now the mission was revealed. Dane turned, still wearing the mask on his face. He looked at Jane. “The mission’s failed, but we have to get out of here alive,” Dane said.“I know, that’s what we have to do,” Jane replied. Then they turned straight, looking at him. They slowly removed their masks. Immediately, as they took them off, Dane pulled his gun from inside his suit jacket and started shooting at him, making him lifeless immediately. Then Jane pulled a gun from her purse and shot one of the other men who was coming. Richard’s men rush
Cornered
Richard was still shocked. He couldn’t make sense of what he was seeing. Watching them closely, he wondered how Dane, the butcher, had managed to infiltrate his mansion. Then he stopped, his gaze cold, and shouted, “Hey, everyone who’s here — go out now. Let them go. Apart from Dane, his butcher’s men, and the other men too.” At Richard’s order, most people in the hall hurried to the door. One of the butcher’s men swung it open so they could escape. But the mafia bosses stayed seated. Richard turned to them. “You guys should leave,” he demanded. “Hell no. We’re not leaving,” Kelvin Stanley replied. Kelvin was a powerful mafia boss too. “OK,” Richard said, “you can stay. But don’t blame me if you get shot. Just carry on with whatever you’re doing. I’m going to watch this.” Richard’s voice was calm, almost amused. “It’s been a long time since my blood boiled like this — especially over a fight with guns. And you know as well as I do, everyone in the mafia world knows you’re a butcher
Eye for an Eye
“So, boss… what should we do to them?” one of Richard’s men asked.“I’ll have my chat first,” Richard replied calmly. “After that, kill them all. It’s fine.”The other men exchanged tense glances — their eyes were locked, ready for the kill. They knew the worst could happen, and they were prepared for death if they had to. Dane’s heart was pounding, his hands gripping his gun.Jane, stay calm, Dane thought. What am I going to do? What am I going to do? We’re twelve against twenty-plus. But at least we still have our guns in hand. So before they take us out, we’ll take some of them down too.Richard kept looking at them for a moment before turning back to his men. “You can kill all of them,” he finally said. “Just leave the pretty lady. I know who she is. She’s Butcher’s assistant — been with him for about two years now, and my spies all around the country have told me she’s really good at what she does. So she’s not going to die. If you do what I say.”Richard stepped closer to Jane.
Escape
Dane decided to release his grip on Richard’s collar. As soon as he let go, Richard stepped back, raised his gun toward Dane and his crew—and Jane too this time. Without missing a beat, Richard turned and began to walk away.“Kill them all,” Richard called over his shoulder. “I don’t need the bitch.”As his men closed in, all Dane could focus on was the grenade. Without hesitation, he yanked out the pin and hurled it in Richard’s direction.Richard’s men were caught completely off-guard. The explosion ripped through the room. Even though Dane had thrown it, the blast knocked him back too, sending him sprawling onto the floor along with Jane and the rest of his crew.Dane groaned as the pain from his earlier gunshot wound flared up again. Blood soaked his shirt as he lay on the marble tiles.Richard’s men were scattered, trying to regroup. One of them grabbed Richard and pulled him away—Richard was unconscious, though it looked like the grenade hadn’t caused him much serious damage.“B
Mission Gone Wrong
As the SUV sped away, everyone was breathing fast, adrenaline still surging through their bodies. “We survived,” Jane said, glancing back before turning to Dane. The SUV they were in was luxurious — all-black seats and interior, the faint scent of leather hanging in the tense silence. Dane shifted upright, wincing as he held his bleeding arm. “Yeah,” he grunted, “we were lucky. It looked like one of us… maybe three were in that SUV that got blown away.” “Obviously,” Jane replied. “I think I need to stop at a hospital.” “No,” Dane shot back, voice tight. “The driver is going to take us back to the ship. No hospital. We have doctors and medics there. You’ll get treatment.” He paused, his brow furrowed. “Use your head for once. Don’t you think Richard will send men to find you if we go to a hospital? Besides…” Jane held his gaze. “You’re right,” she finally agreed. As they spoke, the driver pulled up to the ship. The SUV’s tires crunched to a stop, and for a fleeting momen
