CHAPTER 71- Wine and Lies
Malvin’s jaw twitched, his polished composure beginning to fray.“I will not stand here and be slandered by some trembling servant,” he snapped, his voice cracking across the table. His glare cut back to the bartender.“You think you can save your own skin by dragging my name through the dirt? Pathetic!”His eyes swept the table, his tone rising, almost righteous.“You want proof? Fine. I have nothing to hide. I’ll drink the damn wine right now.”Some of the family members shifted in surprise. Was he really going to drink it?Elena leaned toward Sophia with a smirk. “Now this will be entertaining.”Sophia's lips pressed together, but she said nothing.Malvin reached for the glass, his movements controlled but his heart was beating rapidly. The bartender, hands still shaking, lifted the wine toward him.Everyone's eyes were glued to Malvin. Then suddenly the glass tipped.CRASH!Shards exploded across the table, red wine streaking the pristine cloth like blood.A short of glass cut Mal
CHAPTER 72- More than a Goodbye
“I could sense it,” Adrian said softly.Sophia’s brows twitched slightly. Her lips parted to press further, but he spoke again.“There was something else…” he murmured. “The aphrodisiac in the wine… carried the same scent as the one I detected on you the other night in the ship.”Sophia’s breath hitched audibly, her chest rising. She turned to face him fully now, her voice filled with disbelief.“Are you saying that Malvin...”Adrian didn’t flinch. He didn’t answer the question either.“You should investigate,” he said calmly. “I suspect that Malvin has a hand in it.”Her face turned pale. There were too many implications packed into that single sentence.Sophia nodded slowly. Once. Then again, firmer this time.“I will.”For a moment, they stood like that. The wind curled softly through Sophia's hair.Adrian's gaze didn’t move.Neither did hers. Then, just as he turned to leave, Adrian stopped. He looked back. His voice was quieter now. “One last thing before I go…”She lifted her
CHAPTER 73- ADRIAN LACANSTER
The chandeliers of the Grand Mirabel Hotel casted a golden light across the hall.It was the night of the Global Gala of Physicians. The most elite gathering in medical field.A yearly summit when doctors, legends, healers and legends gathered. They didn’t wear name tags they didn’t need to.People knew who they were. But tonight, there was one name everyone referenced the most.Dr. Aldric Sylvester.A legend in every corner of the globe. His name appeared in textbooks like a recurring myth. Young physicians, freshly inducted into the League, craned their necks just to catch a glimpse. Some of them whispered, breathless, wide-eyed.“Is that really him?”“I didn’t think he actually attended these things.”“My professor used to say he once revived a dying heart without touching the body.”Near the center of the grand ballroom stood Dr. Alaric, he did not rank as high as the legendary Dr. Sylvester bit he was still a renowned healer with many prized herb possessions. His white tux gleam
CHAPTER 74- Wolf Cry
All eyes turned to him, puzzled by his sudden reaction.Alaric frowned. “Yeah?” He didn’t get why Aldric’s face had gone so serious.Aldric stepped closer. “You idiot,” he muttered. “You should have listened to him.”The laughter died. Several doctors exchanged glances.“You don’t understand,” Aldric said, voice tight. “That man is not ordinary. I saw him use ancient techniques that hasn’t been practiced in over a century.""He knew exactly what was wrong with a patient without touching them. He saved Rowan Aldridge’s life using methods I can’t even explain.""If he says you’re going to die today, I’m wondering how you’re still alive.”The group went quiet for a second. Then Alaric chuckled and raised his glass. “Relax, Aldric. I’m surrounded by the best doctors in the world. If I drop, I’ll have ten hands on me before I hit the floor. You’re the legendary healer, remember?”“I’m telling you, my skills are nothing compared to his,” Aldric shot back. But they didn’t believe him.No one
CHAPTER 75- Helpless Legends
Alaric grinned after making his speech, most of which was him boasting of expertise. “To the brilliant minds in this room—”He stopped. But suddenly the glass slipped out of his hands as he suddenly felt heavy muscle spasms in his hands and legs. The glass came down with a loud crash it shattered on the floor. The entire audience shifted in shock.Alaric smiled through it, even though his hands were visibly trembling. "It's nothing..."But before he could finish saying that, he felt seizures unlike anything before, he steadied himself on the podium and his smile snapped. The laugh in the room turned into silence.Alaric’s throat bulged. His fingers clawed at his collar; he ripped at his tie, suddenly he felt like he couldn't breathe.People were confused what was going on before anyone could make a move, he collapsed to the floor as the podium could not longer support him.“Sir—” someone rushed forward. Before they could get to him, foam began to rush at the corners of his mouth. His
CHAPTER 76- Last Lifeline
Alaric’s head rolled to the side, his breath coming out in ragged gasps. His eyelids fluttered. His fingers twitched… then slowly, weakly he lifted it toward Aldric.“Help… me…” Those words managed to escape his lips.Aldric’s face hardened. “I told you to listen to Adrian but you were too stubborn.” Regret washed over him as he continued to beg as he was on the brink of death. "Please... Do something... I don't want to die like this."Aldric didn't respond to the dying man. He dropped to his knees and opened his kit.He drew out things the others hadn’t expected: a small mortar, a tin of crushed dried roots, a vial of dark, viscous liquid, and a handful of powdered herbs that smelled ancient. The room leaned in, holding its breath, as they watched Aldric work.He crushed the roots in the mortar, the grinding echoing in the silence. A sour scent filled the air when he added a single drop from the black vial.He folded a strip of linen into the mixture until it was completely soaked
CHAPTER 77- The Outsider
Adrian was seconds away from hanging up.“Wait!” Aldric’s voice broke through, urgent, stripped of its usual composure. “Listen to me, Adrian. He’s offering you everything.”Adrian heard someone cough in the background, he knew it was Alaric.Adrian could hear his faint and weak voice. “Adrian… the rare herb we wagered. The vault. Any ingredient you want. And a favor… I’ll owe you a favor for life... anything, just… come and save me..”Adrian thought about what he was offering.“Please Adrian, only you can save him.” Aldric cut in quickly. “If you don’t come, he’ll be dead in minutes.”Through the phone, Adrian could hear Alaric gasping, each breath weaker than the last. He could also hear the faint sounds of chaos in the background. Adrian went silent as he leaned back in his chair, across the room, his sister lay on a narrow bed, the MindPulse still shimmered faintly at the corners of her lips, but she had passed the crucial observation period and no longer needed him at her side
CHAPTER 78- No Invitation
Adrian's car rolled to a stop in front of the hall.He came down, not in a hurry but taking deliberate steps towards the entrance. At the grand hall’s entrance, two broad-shouldered bodyguards stepped forward, their expressions hard.“Invitation, sir,” one said, planting himself in Adrian’s path.“I don’t have one,” Adrian replied flatly. “I was called here because there was some emergency.”The guards exchanged skeptical glances.“Then at least show us your medical ID.”“I don’t have that either.”The air thickened. One guard’s hand shifted toward Adrian’s shoulder. “Then you can’t—”The heavy doors banged open with a violent crack.Aldric stormed out. “MOVE!” His voice thundered. The guards hesitated for just a fraction of a second, and Aldric's palm lashed out with a sharp crack, sending one guard stumbling sideways, a red print blooming on his cheek. “Do you have any idea,” Aldric roared, “what it took to get this man to come here?!” His voice was filled with fury and desperation
CHAPTER 79- Back From the Dead
Adrian’s lips curved into a slow, confident smile.“Fine,” he said, his voice carrying easily over the hushed hall. “If I fail, you can do whatever you want with me. Ban me, jail me, drag my name through the mud. I won’t resist.”“But…” His gaze swept over every face, especially the vice chair. “If I succeed, every one of you will apologize sincerely to me.” The vice chair smirked as though he’d just been handed the easiest bet of his life. “Agreed.”Adrian set down his bag and rolled up his sleeves.Alaric’s breathing was shallow, and his skin had the gray colour of someone who was already crossing over.Adrian checked his pulse. It was too weak. People began closing in on him, eager to see what technique he was going to use. “Clear a space. No one touches him but me.”They all reluctantly stepped back.He pulled out a sealed pouch of dark powder, a small vial of amber liquid, and a strip of clean linen. The powder hissed as he poured the liquid over it in a shallow mortar, releasi
CHAPTER 80- On Your Knees!
The silence stretched on. Dozens of physicians, men and women with reputations that shook the medical world, stood frozen in place, unable to meet Adrian’s eyes, unable to process the miracle they had just witnessed. Aldric’s voice cracked like thunder. “Kneel! Everyone of you promised, now honor it. Apologize to him!” The hall trembled with the echo of his command. For a second, no one moved. Then… the neurologist, whose face was pale, lowered himself to his knees. His voice shook with remorse. “Adrian… I was wrong. Forgive my arrogance. I… I sincerely apologize.” One by one, the others followed. The cardiologist clenched her fists so tight her knuckles turned white, but finally she sank down too. “I mocked you. I doubted you. I'm sorry. Please accept my apology.” The murmurs grew louder as the chain reaction spread. Men who had spent their lives never bowing to anyone, women whose names adorned the walls of prestigious hospitals, all dropping to their knees in front o
