Chapter 11, The Sea Ghoul.
Ali arrived at the gym, ready for training, when the system screen appeared before him: [Side Quest: Defeat a Sea Ghoul and gain experience points + a new skill.]Confused, Ali stared at the message, unsure of what to do, until more details flashed across the screen: [Follow this map to locate the Sea Ghoul.][Time limit: 5 hours.]Hesitation crept in. Was he ready to take this on alone? Maybe he should ask another Knight for backup. He decided to find Malik or Laith and so he hurried through the headquarters' halls, searching for them. As he wandered, he stepped into a vast, empty room. There, in the center, sat Marwan, his eyes were closed, he was silent. Ali approached him, he wanted to ask if he'd seen the others. In a flash, Marwan leapt up, sword swinging, sending Ali crashing into the wall. "What was that for?!" Ali yelled out, he was dazed from how strong the blow had been. Marwan smirked, looking down at him with a glint of suspicion. "I smell something on you" he said.
Chapter 12, Ali's determination.
Ali and Marwan had only one shot. If they missed, it was over. The Ghoul surged forward again, its massive form dripping with dark seawater, its jagged teeth bared in a snarl. This time, Marwan was ready. He swung Ali’s original sword in a wide arc, blocking the creature’s strike with a resounding clang. Sparks flew as steel met monstrous flesh. Ali stood firm, gripping Marwan’s sword that transformed into a crossbow, his fingers tense. The system screen flickered before him, a small guiding arrow adjusting his aim. "Just a little longer he thought." Marwan didn’t wait. With a fierce battle cry, he leapt at the Ghoul, slashing through its writhing tentacles with precision. Each strike was flawless, his movements a blur of controlled fury. But no matter how many limbs he severed, the Ghoul’s wounds sealed instantly, its flesh knitting back together with unnatural speed. “It’s not working!” Marwan shouted between swings, his breath ragged. “We need to end this now!” Ali’s jaw c
Chapter 13, Rankings.
Ali sat at his desk, scrolling through job hunting websites on his laptop, his brow furrowed in concentration. The sound of his computer filled the quiet room until his phone buzzed. He picked it up to see a message from Malik: "Come to headquarters. Immediately." Ali frowned but didn’t hesitate. Within minutes, he was out the door, heading toward the Knights’ headquarters on his motorbike. When he arrived, he found the entire group already gathered in the main hall. Hadi stood at the front, addressing the assembled Knights. "Alright, listen up," Hadi said, his voice carrying authority. "As you all know, every year, each group is required to test their Knights to determine their current rank. The results must be submitted to the Knights Association. No exceptions." Ali stepped forward, curiosity getting the better of him. "What kind of tests are we talking about?" Hadi turned to him, nodding. "Good question. Follow me."He led Ali down a hallway into a large, high-tech room f
Chapter 14, The knight's gotta make a living.
Ali was in his room adjusting his tie in the mirror. Even after joining the Knights of Askalan, life didn’t stop, bills needed paying, and relying on his parents wasn’t an option anymore. He had graduated, and now reality demanded he step into the world of nine-to-fives. Hadi had been clear when Ali asked about income: "The Knights Association pays for missions, but it’s not enough to live on. We all have day jobs. We fight to protect our home, but we still need to eat."So here he was, dressed in his best button-down, heading to an interview at NexTechni Solutions, a mid-sized firm known for its cutting-edge systems. --- The office was sleek, all glass and polished metal. The interviewer, a sharp-eyed woman in her forties named Ms. Kawthar, scanned his resume before looking up. "So, Ali, your degree is in Computer Engineering, and you’ve done some impressive freelance work. Why us?"Ali had rehearsed this. "I’ve always been fascinated by system architecture, especially in secur
Chapter 15, The secret Tunnel.
Ali’s first week at his new job had been exhausting. Between office work and late training sessions, he was drained, surviving on barely any sleep. His body ached, and his mind felt foggy as he trudged home, longing for even an hour of rest. Then, his phone buzzed. It was a message from Hadi "Come to the police station. They need our help I’m assigning you to handle it." Ali’s fatigue vanished in an instant. A spark of excitement shot through him. Finally! he thought, they’re trusting me with a real mission. When he arrived at the station, he found Malik and Haitham already there, their expressions serious. When Ali arrived he found Haitham and Malik Already there "What’s going on?" He asked.Malik said "The police need us to deal with a gang. They suspect they’re involved with the Ghoul's attack." Ali frowned. " How?" Haitham who was leaning against the wall explained "This gang used to be drug dealers before the Ghouls attacked. After the Knights of Askalan formed, we took
Chapter 16, The Ghoul Queen.
Ali and Malik combed through every floor, garage, warehouse, and storage room in the abandoned market, but the tunnel remained elusive. The minutes ticked by, and Malik’s patience wore thin. Malik ran a hand over his face, "This is pointless. We’re wasting time. Let’s call it a night and pick this up tomorrow." Ali was persistent he didn't want to lose the opportunity to gain a new skill again "We can’t leave yet. I know there’s something here." Malik raised an eyebrow "You’re delusional. There’s nothing but dust and rats."With that, Malik turned and strode back to the car, leaving Ali alone in the decaying market. Ali exhaled sharply, frustration gnawing at him. The quest said 200 meters, it has to be here somewhere. He wandered into an abandoned garage, the silence pressing in around him. Just as he was about to give up, a faint sound reached his ears, a soft, whimpering cry. Following the noise, he entered an old gift shop, its shelves still littered with broken trinke
Chapter 17, Stuck In The Ghoul's Nest.
Ali was stuck. The new quest looming over him was bad enough, but even without it, he needed to find a way out of this place. Now, he bitterly regretted venturing off on his own. If only he had just gone home with Malik instead. Taking a deep breath, he forced himself to calm down. Panicking wouldn’t help. Maybe if he played along with Zaina for now, he could buy himself some time. "Why me?" he asked, keeping his voice steady. "Out of all the people you could’ve dragged into this, why did you choose me?" Zaina tilted her head, her dark eyes glinting with amusement. "I need a strong partner," she said smoothly. "And a human, someone who can get closer to my enemies without raising suspicion. Someone I can... guide." Ali scoffed. "Ah, so you mean someone you can control and manipulate. Got it." He gave her a sarcastic smile. "Thanks for the honesty." She chuckled, unfazed. "You’re clever. I like that." "Let me guess," Ali continued, his tone dripping with false amusement. "Y
Chapter 18, Trapped.
Malik’s heart pounded as he read Ali’s message. His fingers tightened around the device before he shoved it into his pocket and broke into a sprint. He retraced his steps, scanning every corner of the abandoned building Ali had mentioned. But after hours of searching, there was no sign of his friend, no tunnel, no hidden passage, nothing. Frustration gnawed at him as he kicked a loose stone across the empty floor. Where are you, Ali?By morning, Malik stood in the dimly lit headquarters, exhaustion lining his face. The others gathered around as he relayed the events, his voice tense. “Ali sent me a message, he is trapped in the Ghoul's nest underground, he told me there was a tunnel,” Malik said, running a hand through his hair. “But when I got there, it was gone. No tunnel, no trace. Just… nothing.” Hadi, ever the strategist, stepped forward, arms crossed. “Show me the place.” Malik nodded, and the two returned to the derelict building. Hadi moved methodically, scanning the w
Chapter 19, Dangerous Game.
Ali and Zaina stepped into the grand meeting hall, the air thick with tension. As they entered, Ali’s nose twitched, a strange scent lingering in the room, different from Zaina’s usual intoxicating fragrance. It was sharper, muskier, closer to the stench of her guards. His instincts prickled, but he pushed the thought aside as the council members rose to their feet in unison, their eyes fixed on their queen. "Your Majesty," the eldest councilor, a tall, broad-shouldered Ghoul in the shape of a man with silver-streaked hair, greeted with a deep bow. The others followed suit, murmuring respectful welcomes. Zaina’s expression remained impassive as she strode forward, her long robes sweeping behind her. Without a word, she took her seat at the head of the table, her posture regal and unyielding. Ali followed, settling into the chair beside her, acutely aware of the hostile gazes boring into him. With a cold flick of her wrist, Zaina gestured for the council to sit. The members obeye
Chapter 20. The Rescue Mission.
The glow of Hadi’s flashlight flickered across the aged parchment of the old city maps spread over the table. His fingers traced the faded lines of tunnels, forgotten passages built as wartime shelters, buried beneath the bustling streets above. This is it, he thought. Not as deep as the Ghouls’ lair, but close enough.Across the room, Malik paced restlessly, his jaw clenched. "We should’ve gone back for him sooner," he muttered, more to himself than to the others. Hadi looked up, his expression firm. "We’re going now. And we’re not coming back without him." He tapped the map. "These tunnels will get us close. From there, we track Ali’s phone signal and dig deeper if we have to." Haitham leaned against the wall, arms crossed, his presence as solid as stone. "Digging won’t be a problem," he said, his voice low. A faint shimmer of energy crackled around his fists, a silent promise of the destruction he could unleash. Malik stopped pacing and met Hadi’s gaze. "I’m coming with you
