Sadie wiped her face with a tissue again. “It’s okay,” she muttered, staring at her reflection. Her eyes were red, her cheeks streaked with tears. Why was she crying anyway? For sending Lauren away? After everything Lauren did to her… didn’t she deserve worse? But the thought wouldn’t stop running circles in her head. What if something bad happened to Lauren after she sent her out? Sadie spun around and ran toward the door. “How long has she been gone?” she asked one of the guards. “You mean Miss Lauren? She hasn’t left. She’s been sitting in her car,” the guard replied. “Should we tell her to leave?” Sadie shook her head, forcing her face into something stern. “Let her in.” She hurried back inside, slamming the door behind her. Deep breaths. Calm face. Hard eyes. But she knew how useless that mask would be around Lauren. They’d once practiced pretending together — learned how to read emotions and hide them perfectly. The doorbell rang. Sadie opened it and stepped aside. L

“Probably something to do with Charles. But… Charles… that man… he’s the right man for you,” Lauren said, smiling.“Why do you say that?” Sadie asked curiously.“Nothing,” Lauren lied. No guy had seen her almost naked and still could think straight, but Charles did… damn. She shook her head. “By the way, I don’t trust Emmy. Hide somewhere when she comes. I’ll be the one to open the door for her.”“And why would you do that?” Sadie asked.“To pay for all I’ve done,” Lauren replied quietly.“I’m a bit curious though… what made you come to me? Charles… he didn’t threaten you, right?” Sadie asked in shock.“Of course he wouldn’t. It’s… just—”“What? You’re making me worried.”“When was the last time you spoke with Hardin?” Lauren asked.“I haven’t spoken with him since I got here… so, about five days ago,” Sadie said.Lauren quickly explained her story. She had thought Sadie would laugh and dismiss it as some fantasy, that no guy like Hardin existed—but Sadie hadn’t.“Do you think… Hardin

Lauren opened the door. Roger and Emmy stood there, fingers laced, wearing those fake grins that screamed pretense. The kind of smiles you could spot as lies from ten thousand miles away. “Good evening, Lauren,” Emmy greeted sweetly, like they’d been best friends all their lives. “Where’s Sadie?” Roger asked, voice low and impatient. “I put her to sleep. You can come in.” Lauren widened the door. “That’s perfect,” Emmy said, sharing a knowing glance with Roger. “What exactly do you plan to do to her?” Lauren asked as they stepped in. “Lauren, you can leave now. Nothing serious,” Emmy replied warmly. “I’ll send you some money for the help. Just lead us to her room.” Lauren began walking, then stopped abruptly and turned to face them. “What do you want to do to her? Maybe I can help make it faster—if you tell me.” Emmy smiled, cold and casual. “Nothing serious. Roger’s going to lie beside her on the bed, half-naked. Maybe kiss her a bit. We’ll take some pictures and wait for Cha

“Where’s Miss Sadie?” one of the house security asked sharply. Sadie stepped out from her hiding place before their lies could settle. She met the officers straight on. “Please arrest them,” she said. “We’ll take this to the station.” Roger leaned toward one of the cops, whispering low. “Please act like you don’t see anything. It’ll be trouble if people think the Wyatts do drugs — especially Sadie and Lauren.” The cop cleared his throat. He studied the scene for half a breath, then nodded once as if with an internal decision. “We can’t ignore a complaint,” he said, voice neutral. “Take care of them.” He motioned to the others. Sadie watched in ice-cold horror as the police and security moved in — not toward Roger and Emmy, but away — leaving her standing there, feeling the world tilt. “Hey!” Sadie snapped, but no one paid her any attention. She rushed to the door—but in a blink, Roger’s foot shot out, tripping her. She crashed flat onto her face. “Long time no see, Sadie,” he sa

If Charles had his way, he would’ve insisted that Sadie and Lauren not be in the same room, but the doctors overruled him—of course, they favoured Lauren because she was Wyatt family.Even with her head injury, she hadn’t lost consciousness, and to make matters worse, she had instructed the doctors never to sedate her.“Sadie is such a fragile girl,” Lauren said as the doctors attended to her. “I got hit at the back of my head. Woosh! I thought I’d black out immediately—but nope. Didn’t happen,” she continued, speaking to no one in particular. She rambled on about what movies got wrong, what didn’t make sense, and everything she thought was unrealistic about films.Charles had to pull the doctors aside before they left.“Is she…gone crazy?” he asked cautiously.“Nothing like that,” one of the doctors chuckled. “We’ll get the scan results in three hours, though.”Charles muttered under his breath, “I’m sure something’s wrong with her head…she got hit, you know. Plus…hope it’s not conta

Then, suddenly, Roger released her. “Babe… I’m sorry. I—I just… got lost for a second,” he muttered, as if possessed by some dark force.“But think about it. This is all your fault. If you hadn’t let Charles divorce you, none of this would be happening. I didn’t sign up for this chaos. You wanted someone to make you feel like a woman… I needed a night fling. It wasn’t supposed to get this messy. So… how are you going to fix it?”Emmy stared, disbelief frozen on her face.“Babe!” he yelled, stepping closer. “Do you want me to end it all with you?”Emmy hissed, yanked the door open, and bolted. Roger followed, blocking her path.“You’re running away now? Babe?” His voice was a cruel mix of anger and disbelief. “We were supposed to change me. Have you given up already? After everything… after how much I loved you?”His hand shot out. The slap landed.“Goodbye. Forever.” He smirked darkly, getting back into the car and driving off, leaving Emmy trembling by the roadside, tears streaking h

August hadn’t said a word since meeting Charles.“You didn’t call me here to watch you sulk, did you?” Charles asked, glancing at the time. “It’s been over thirty minutes. Whatever the news is, that’s enough time to figure out how to say it.”August swallowed hard. “Sir… thank you. That’s… that’s what I wanted to say. Thank you for giving me the chance to work with you. I’m really grateful for the opportunity.”Charles frowned. “You’re not drunk, right?”“I had two cups about an hour ago,” August lied quickly. “But really, that’s why I asked to meet. To thank you. That’s all.” He smiled awkwardly, eyes darting away.Charles leaned back. “What do you actually want to tell me? Be quick. I can’t sweet-talk a guy into opening up. If it were Sadie, maybe I’d try.”“Sir…” August’s voice broke. “I’m the one who… killed your brother.”Charles froze, his brow lifting slightly.“Kill me,” August said, suddenly falling to his knees. “I deserve it. I was hired by the Order. The necklace you found

“I’m really okay,” Sadie said, trying to grab her car keys from Charles.“Where are you going?”“Just down the street for groceries.”“And dressed like this?” Charles gave her a once-over.“What do you care what I wear?”“I have to care, Sadie. It’s suspicious when you suddenly get excited about grocery shopping. Unless… someone’s winking at you over there?”“You said you were jealous instead of making us jump through hoops.”“Sadie, I know I told you you can date other men, but your father would be suspicious if he saw you with someone. Basically, I signed a contract with him.”“Contract?”“Yeah. Don’t look so shocked. Since meeting you, I haven’t stopped signing contracts.”She smiled. “And what’s this one about?”“He demanded ten kids. I told him I’ve always dreamed of twenty… thirty… something like that.”“Okay… I guess you’ve already found the woman who’ll bake those kids for you?”“Of course, my beautiful Sadie will be the one producing them,” Charles said with a grin.Sadie chu

“He can’t kill…” Sadie swallowed hard. She’d seen Charles use a gun before, but he never explained anything to her after. “I trust him,” Sadie said, voice firm despite the fear. “I trust he’s a good person.”“This could all be a trap. He might be stalking you. Planning everything. The girl might look like him, might be his sister… and they could be performing the same operation,” Lauren warned.“Lauren, you’re scaring me even more,” Sadie admitted.“When are you leaving?”“Right now. I’ve packed,” Sadie said, hefting her box. “Just a few clothes in case I end up staying longer.”“You clueless girl. Wait five minutes. We’re going together,” Lauren insisted.“No. What if you’re right?”“At least I’ll be there. Two are better than one. I haven’t recovered from four nights ago, but… I think I’m craving that adrenaline rush again.”“Are you that bored?” Sadie asked, tugging her box along.“I have something I’m trying to keep out of my mind.”“Who? A guy?”“I’ll tell you when we meet.”Sad

Thomas rode with his crew that night, more for laughs and old habit than anything else. They were trading stories — one about a cop who dozed off on shift and turned into a volcano when called out.“I mean, he should just own up, but he won’t,” one of them said, grinning.“Would you admit that kind of allegation?” the man in question shot back, offended.“Woah,” the driver muttered as headlights swept past them. A car streaked by, fast and raw. “That one’s flying.”“Step on it,” Thomas said, voice low. “Let’s teach ‘em a lesson.”“Only idiots drive like that,” one of the guys laughed.“He looks like he’s racing to kill someone,” another added. “Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s a criminal.”“You just want an excuse to earn overtime,” someone teased.“He’s waiting at the light,” the driver observed, braking slightly so they didn’t barrel through the intersection.“Corner him,” Thomas said, eyes hard. “I’d love a chat.”“He’ll never try this again,” the driver snorted, revving the engine as
