Chapter 162
"I see the stars have conspired to bring us together, Isaiah." Elena said, a charming smile hanging on her face, that dreaded look on her eyes just as it always was. Jenny was knocked back in surprise. At first she did not recognize the woman in front of her, but with a second look, it became clearer. This was the same woman she had seen Isaiah with. The same face. The same eyes that sparked like emerald fire."What are you doing here, Elena?" Isaiah asked, trying his best not to look at Jenny's face. She had disappointment crawling over her. "Is this a joke?" Jenny said, she placed her hand on Isaiah's shirt and mildly forced him to turn. "What's going on here? Did you tell her to come?""Seriously, Jenny, I don't know what's going on," he swore, taken aback. "I have no idea what she is doing here."The guide said nothing but stand by at the corner watching what anyone else would infer to be a cheating scandal. Isaiah was frozen in place. For a second, he did not know what to say.
Chapter 163
In the wash room, Elena stood looking at herself in the mirror. Her eyes were laser focused on her reflection as if it was something real, something apart from herself, something she could hold, strangle, and force all the life away from the person's throat. Another staff came right up to her. A woman. Her black long hair was tucked into the head wrap she wore. Her lips were black from the lipstick she put on."Good evening, my lady," the woman greeted, a mop on hand as she cleaned the floor. She stuck the mop into a bucket every few seconds, with Elena just standing before her, facing the mirror with much intensity."I think if you stare at the mirror too much, my lady," the cleaning staff said, after noticing that her greeting was left unanswered, "it will crack with all the force with which you are using to stare at it." She forced a smile on her pale face."Oh the whole world should just be destroyed. Why should I care for anything?" Elena lamented. "And by the way why are you he
Chapter 164
The silence between the couple in the absence of their new guide, Elena, was awkward. Jenny did not want to say anything. She did not think it was Isaiah's fault, but anything she's say at that point, would be imbued with so much anger and distrust that she would end up making things worse. Or so she feared. Suspense hung in the air around them, the kind that had every action seemingly floating in the air.Isaiah did not dare say anything. He felt that his words could end up more anger inducing than it would be calming. So the two of them just stood there standing, like one of the historical objects and artefacts around, like specimens of a forgotten time to be studied. Other people moved past them like strange shadows and spectators as they stayed there looking at their feet, afraid of their eyes coming across on another."If Luke was here" Isaiah' forced himself to start, "he would say this is the worst date ever." He let out a little chuckle. It was fake chuckle. There was really
Chapter 165
There were so many choices in the map to make, and so little interest in Isaiah to make them, that he just stood right there gleaming at the sheet of paper for close to two minutes, while Jenny stared with much eagerness, and Elena with cold patience."Okay, I'll just choose the stone age" he said. "Might as well just start from the beginning where everything started so I wouldn't miss a thing.""Yayyy!" Jenny screamed in triumph and happiness, throwing her arms around Isaiah's neck in happiness."Nice choice" Elena said, sounding like a broken record and seeking very much to ignore Jenny's over the top display of enthusiasm. "Now let's go...the stone age is below. At the first floor. It's underground, so if you're scared of cramped spaces, you better man up."Isaiah did not know who she was talking to. Because she wasn't definitely talking to Jenny who had come here a number of times before now with her dad. He did not ask. He just watched as she got behind them and urged for him to
Chapter 166
Suddenly there was a strange sensation in the air. It was like the buzzing of electricity, as though two opposing currents had met in a fuse. Isaiah felt it when he placed his hand on the wall a second time. He turned around to see that Elena now had a strange facial expression on her. Isaiah knew from that that she was aware of whatever had just happened. But he did not know how to ask without his girlfriend knowing. The sensation died down in a heartbeat. Just as soon as it was born. Isaiah gasped lightly.Jenny was still clinging to him like a spoilt child who had just been given some candy. She noticed that he had jolted up a bit."What happened, honey?" She asked. "Are you okay?"Isaiah smiled at her. A fake smile. She would have known it was fake if she really knew who he was. As Elena knew who he was. But she didn't. She did not and that was all that was necessary to know."It's nothing" Isaiah said. "I think we should check the next compartment."They came outside of the cav
Chapter 167
After a little while, Jenny felt herself grow bolder. The face she saw in the mirror did not look as pitiful as it was before. She wiped the tears from her eyes one last time, and none came out after. The crying had seized. "What are you even crying for?" She asked herself, trying to smile, but there was not enough happiness in her for such a gesture. What came on her face instead, could be described as a scowl. "Come on. You are not going to let yourself get outdone by a mere tramp. This is your first date, and you are going to make it work. No matter what happens."She stood up straight, fixed her hair, making it into a pony tail and putting some lipstick on her lip. Red. She was going to walk out of there, a different person from.tge one who had walked into the restroom. She walked away from the sink and opened the door. "Hey, sugar" the voice of a familiar person rang beside her. Isaiah's. Shocked, she tripped and was about crashing on the floor even she felt his strong grip
Chapter 168
"Good day, Isaiah" the system said, with the world around Isaiah frozen in time. Isaiah gave no reply. He was sure that whatever the system wanted to say, was going to be bad. It was going to give him a task. And not now. He did not need a task. Anything but a task."You fail to reply me" the system continued. "But nevertheless, the reason I am speaking with you is for no other than that I have a task that you must complete or else.""What task?" This time Isaiah asked, in a shivering voice, expectant of the worst to come."The man in front of you is threatening someone you love and care for" the system began, a cold feeling stirred in Isaiah's belly, "your task is to stop him however way you can, even if you would need to end him. Do not give up yourself to him. Do not surrender. Do not give up."This was the worst of times. As though Isaiah was not already under a lot of pressure, this was now added to the mix. What was there to do?The world came back to normal, and the man still
Chapter 169
This was the plan. If Elena was right that the man in front of them was bluffing and would dare not kill an innocent non-magical person, he would become pressured if Isaiah and Elena took in a hostage. Whether or not it would work, hung solely on the belief by Elena that the man being an agent of The Organization would dare not do anything to Jenny. Isaiah was holding on to this belief for dare life, even if now it seemed to him that he was barely different from the average hostage taking criminal.Isaiah noticed a flinch from the man as he saw the woman's body with him, and a knife pressed into the woman's neck. Jenny was wild eyed at this. Isaiah tried not to look at her. The more time they stood there, the more it was harder watching her stare at him.The woman was stiff in his hand, almost like a log of wood, or an ice figurine. He had never held it before but he felt that it wouldn't be so different from what he was holding now."What are you doing?" The man asked, Isaiah noted t
Chapter 170
"Why did you do that?" Isaiah boomed, with Jenny on his arms. Elena still had the same wicked glare full of scorn as before, while her servant, Kate just stood there over the man she had killed in cold blood. It seemed almost to her as if what she had really just did was kill a cockroach.Isaiah placed his hand on Jenny's chest. Her heart was beating and she was breathing fine. That was good. Atleast one of them was doing okay, he thought. He gritted his teeth and focused once more on the strange woman standing over the corpse that she had made. She was wearing a black loose dress, with loose sleeves that covered her hands in their size. The edge of the right sleeve was stained in blood. It hid beneath it the hand that severed the man's head. Now the man was lying in a red pond, head flung a bit far away from his body, staining the white wall of the museum with much blood. Isaiah couldn't stare at without the overwhelming urge to throw up all that was within his stomach. It was a sick
Chapter 171
"Now, let's get your girlfriend to a hospital," Elena said to Isaiah after her speech. "I don't think she's out cold because of shock alone. She's clearly not very well." There was ice in her voice. Cold. No passion. She wasn't saying it because she cared but because it was objectively true."Huh?" Isaiah's eyes followed the woman as she walked towards his girlfriend. He did not think their argument was over. But he knew that he would not be able to convince her otherwise. She crouched over her and placed her hand on the girl's chest. Isaiah walked up to them, his eyes filled with mistrust at Elena. He was fighting with everything in him that wanted to push the woman away from his girlfriend."She has a very high fever," Elena said, looking up to him, jaded. "She shouldn't be here. She is essentially burning up." Again the tone was cold. There was no real emotion in it."I'll take her to the hospital," Isaiah said, fingering his car keys hung by the key chain to his waist. He would l
