CHAPTER 21
The new safe house was more cold than the last….it’s sleek, glass walled penthouse with a great view of the city’s busy street. Mike stood by the high windows, his reflection was a ghostly shadow against the dimly lit chandeliers. His fingers drummed repeatedly against the glass as he sighed restlessly. They tried to kill me. The thought burned in his heart like flame. And now, it is my turn.Behind him, Carter stood bent over a laptop, his fingers flying across the keyboard as he pulled up files from the encrypted USB. Mr Austin paced restlessly nearby, his phone pressed firmly to his ear, barking orders continuously to the security teams. Mr Anderson stood silently by the door, his arms crossed and his gaze sharp enough to cut through steel.“Got it,” Carter announced happily as he pushed his glasses up his nose. “Stewart’s offshore accounts, shell companies and…oh….the kickbacks from Bio-tech’s ‘accidental’ drug trail failures. The man’s been lining his pockets while patients dies.
CHAPTER 22
Bio-Tech Headquarters - Executive Office. The air in Mr Stewart’s office was thick with tension. Thick enough for a knife to slice through. The blinds were drawn, thereby casting long shadows over the huge mahogany desk where Mr Stewart sat, with his fingers steepled tightly and his jaw clenched. Across from him, Simeon and Richard stood rigid, with their faces tight with unease. Two of Bio - tech’s most powerful investors—Mr Victor Langley and Mr Daniel Hargrove sat in the plush chairs, their expressions were unreadable. The huge muted television in the corner replayed Mike’s press conference repeatedly, his voice slicing through the silence like a sharp blade.“Because certain people at Bio-tech would rather see me dead than lose control of my company.”Mr Stewart’s eye twitched angrily.Mr Victor Langley, a silver haired man with piercing grey eyes, leaned forward and said contemptuously, “This is a disaster, Stewart. The stock has plummeted 40% in the last three hours. The board i

The static screen appeared suddenly in Mike’s vision, it’s glowing letters almost burning, searing into his mind like a band that can’t be taken off…[Level 6][Task: Acquire the Lawson Skyscraper…][Status: Ongoing…][Reward: 600 coins..][Coins: 900][Note: Coins must be withdrawn before commencement of new task.]900 coins.900 million dollars. That is a fortune that could reshape empires. And now, the system demanded more—the Lawson skyscraper.Mike exhaled sharply as his fingers tightened around the tablet. The game wasn’t over. It was escalating. And he has to be on top of the game or everything he has worked for will be reduced to shit.He snatched his phone and dialed Mr Austin’s number before the screen could fade.“Lawson Skyscraper,” Mike said the moment the line connected, his voice low and deliberate, so as not startle the old man or make him uncomfortable. “What do you know about it?”A pause. Then Mr Austin replied cautiously, “it’s up for bid. Why?”“I want it.”A
CHAPTER 24
Bio- tech Headquarters—Simeon’s Office. The sleek glass doors of Simeon’s office burst open with a force that rattled the framed paintings on the wall and Richard stormed in, his usually composed face twisted in fury with a tablet clutched in his fist.“We have a problem,” he snarled, slamming the device on Simeon’s desk. The screen displaying a breaking news alert….BIO TECH CFO RICHARD COLE ARRESTED AT AUSTRA GALA ON FRAUD CHARGES - WHISTLEBLOWER MICHEAL ROBINSON LINKED TO INVESTIGATION.Simeon’s blood ran cold instantly as his fingers curled into fists. He scanned the headline again, as if the words might rearrange themselves into something less catastrophic. But as it didn’t, he looked up with his face scrunched up in anger.“What the hell is this?” He hissed.Richard’s jaw clenched. “Our financial advisor just got paraded out of Robinson’s charity event in handcuffs. And guess who orchestrated the whole damn thing?”Simeon didn’t need to guess. The answer was obvious in the smir
CHAPTER 25
The morning sun seeped through the high windows of Mike’s office, casting long shadows over the polished mahogany desk. He leaned back in his chair, fingers crossed, watching the busy city roared beneath him—his city, or at least, it would be soon….very soon. Then, suddenly the door burst wide open.Carter, his assistant, his usual calm face replaced with urgency, strode in with a tablet in his tight fisted grip. His tie was slightly askew and it was a rare crack in his normally composed composure.“Sir,” Carter said, his voice tight. “Cole’s out on bail.”Mike didn’t blink. He simply smirked and swirled the amber liquid in his glass, then he muttered. “Expected.”The system screen appeared suddenly in his vision, it’s neon letters burning into his retinas…[Task: Acquire the Lawson Skyscraper….Progress: 60%][Warning: Opposition Mobilization.][Sub - Task: Neutralize Stewart’s Financial Sabotage.]Carter hesitated for a minute, then added, “Simeon and Lillian were photographed leav
CHAPTER 26
Bio-Tech Headquarters - Boardroom. The glass walled boardroom was so thick with tension that a blade could easily slice through. The long, polished mahogany table reflected the grim faces of Bio - tech’s most powerful investors, their murmurs sharp with disagreement. At the head of the table, Mr Stewart sat with his fingers crossed tightly together and his expression unreadable. To his right, Simeon leaned back in his chair with his jaw clenched tightly. To his left, Richard tapped his pen continuously against the table as his eyes scans the room like a hawk. One of the investors, a silver haired man with a goatee and a scowl on his face, slammed his palm angrily on the table.“This is total madness!” He barked. “We already own three skyscrapers….two of which are sitting half empty! What the hell do we need another one for?”A younger investor, a woman with a sharply cut bob hair and a even more sharper tongue, argued immediately. “it is not about need. It is about power. The Lawson T
CHAPTER 27
Lawson Holdings — Gregory Lawson’s Office. The elevator doors slid open with silent ding, revealing Lillian Stewart in all her calculated glory. Her navy- blue dress clung to her like a second skin, the slit riding high enough to draw the eye but modest enough to feign innocence. Like it was unplanned. Her ice-blonde hair cascaded over one shoulder, and her lips—painted a deep, dangerous red—curved into a smile as she stepped onto the plush carpet of Gregory Lawson’s private office floor. The receptionist’s eyes widened. “Miss Stewart?”“I have an appointment,” Lillian lied smoothly, adjusting the strap of her purse. The lady hesitated, then she said slowly, “Mr Lawson didn’t mention—”“Oh, it is a personal matter.” Lillian’s voice dripped with sweetness. “He will want to see me.”Before the receptionist could protest, Lillian strode past, her stilettos sinking into the carpet with predatory grace.Gregory Lawson’s office door was a slab of polished mahogany, his name etched in gold.
CHAPTER 28
Austra Headquarters - Mike’s Office. The city with its glittering lights spread out like a fairy tale garden in the early evening. But the view from his somber office wasn’t peaceful. A low persistent ding echoed at the back of his mind…the sound he only could hear. The system screen materialized before his eyes, it’s bright neon static letters burning aggressively in his vision.[Primary Task: Acquire Lawson Skyscraper —PROGRESS: 75%][Warning: Asset acquisition window is closing. Hostile counter-bid imminent.][Recommendation: Initiate immediate contact with Lawson, G.]“Carter!” Mike barked, not taking his eyes off the static text that’s burning in his vision. His assistant appeared at the door instantly. “Sir?”“Get Gregory Lawson on the phone. Now. I don’t care if he is in a meeting with the damn president.”“Right away, sir.”Mike reached for his phone across the table, with the intentions on dialing Gregory private number himself. The system’s warning still echoing in his hea
CHAPTER 29
Bio-Tech Headquarters —Mr Stewart’s Office. The air in Mr Stewart’s office was thick enough to choke on. It smelled of expensive whisky and failure. News of the Lawson - Austra merger played on the large screen TV, where the financial analysts voices slick with praises for Mike Robinson’s “strategic masterstroke.” Each word was a needle driving deeper under Mr Stewart’s skin.He stood with his back to the room, staring out at the city skyline…a skyline that now felt like it belonged to someone else. His knuckles were white as he gripped his gold walking stick.“A merger,” he spat the word out like it was poison. “They didn’t just sell him the tower. They gave him the keys to the goddam kingdom and invited him to move in.”Behind him, Richard stood nearly invisible behind the bookcase, with as he stared blankly at the moving pictures on the screen. Simeon paced slowly near the desk, his mind visibly racing through the wreckage, calculating angles, looking for a foothold in the sinking
CHAPTER 30
Austra Headquarters - The War Room. The air in Austra’s secure conference room, named “The War Room,” was a huge contrast to the toxic atmosphere all over Bio - Tech’s headquarters. Here, the air was cool and buzzed with the quiet energy of upcoming victory. The huge screen displayed a complex drawing of Bio - tech’s stock holdings. Mike sat at the head of the table, like a king in his court. To his right was Gregory Lawson, his new ally, who was looking more relaxed and ruthless than Mike had ever seen him. To his left was Mr Ginger, owner of sawdust industries…a man who had made his fortune in lumber and construction, and harbored a legendary, decades old grudge against Charles Stewart.“The problem is not buying the shares,” Mike said. “The problem is buying them quietly. Stewart’s inner circle is panicked. They are watching every trade, every movement. If they see combined buy-up of their stock, they will administer poison pill protocols before we can blink.”Mr Ginger chuckled.
