CHAPTER SEVENTY
Seeing that Elena was not ready to see Sergio or speak to him, her mother Margaret walked out of the room angrily and went straight to where Sergio was seated in the living room, probably to speak to him and try to defend her daughter’s refusal, according to her."Where is Elena, Mrs. Margaret? As you can see, I do not have much time to spend here. I have a lot of things to do. I am a businessman, and you know that. I want to talk things out with her so I can go on with my activities, Sergio told Margaret when he saw that she had not come out with her daughter.Margaret walked to the seat close to him and sat down to explain certain things to him. She did not know what to do at that point, but she had to cover her daughter and hold the opportunity firmly, unlike other ones that her daughter had ruined for both of them and their family. She immediately began to think of what to tell Sergio, the excuses to give for her daughter’s behaviour at that moment.Margaret never wanted to miss a
CHAPTER SEVENTY ONE
Elena did not want to listen to what her mother and her brother were saying. Her mother was trying to play a kind of superiority game, but Elena was not having it at all. She had already concluded that she was done with everything about Sergio and had decided to focus on her life, forgetting the kind of life her mother brought her up with. She was not going to be their machinery anymore; rather, she was going to fix her life and put it together."Elena, this is to help the family, and you know that without this, our family cannot stand as it is right now. This has been sustaining us for a very long time, and you don’t have to ruin it. This is a big opportunity that has come our way, and we just have to accept it in good faith. You are in the position to help us, so do not decline helping your family. Sergio is our only hope, and you know that if he abandons us, our family name will definitely close up. We really need to gain everything we can from him, so you just have to forgive him
CHAPTER SEVENTY TWO
Don Lugard was now ready to speak with Elena about Marco because that was going to be an interesting topic to him, and he also needed to find out some personal answers."First of all, Elena, do you care?" he said to her with a glass of alcohol in his hand. Elena shook her head and requested wine instead of alcohol, so he went to his wine glass, brought a bottle of wine, and poured it into a glass cup for her. Then he sat down to discuss Marco."So, Elena, tell me, I thought you had nothing to do with Marco anymore. How is he now your husband, and what are you looking for him for? Because you should have no business with him. I could remember the last time you came here, you didn’t come with him, and then I concluded that you had nothing to do with him. So, what exactly do you want from Marco?" he questioned Elena smartly, as he was about to find out some things from her."Actually, I really need the meeting because we have unfinished business, and he really needs to show me some thing
CHAPTER SEVENTY THREE
Marrying Sal's daughter seemed like a very easy proposal. The easiest he had been handed over but that did not settle down well with it. To Marco, there was more than meets the eye.He knew their world to an extent.A lot of people have been killed, over little things like power. A lot of women had killed their husbands just to emerge at the top. If he was to take Isabella, he would sleep with one eye open. But then, there was a singular glaring truth that Sal had pointed out.Elena...his estranged wife.Being married to her was more punishment than love. She lived ever so recklessly, her heart darkened and her life so fake. She cheated in his face and also humiliated him. Their marriage was already dead the moment they mocked him over asking for help for his mother's sake. All the while she had been cheating, he really did not think much about it but right now, it was clear the best bet was to let her go.He glanced at Sal who was still beaming awaiting his answer. Marco wondered ab
CHAPTER SEVENTY FOUR
She could barely make out the scene as the argument continued. She stepped out of the vehicle and saw her guards braced for a fight; the men from the other car were arguing, then lowering their guns. Tomas moved to block her, doing his job and pleading that it wasn’t safe but she insisted. Rising to the tips of her toes, she peered over his shoulders and caught sight of Marco. As the guard’s gaze followed hers.“You know him, ma’am?” he asked. She nodded, and then noticed Sal being helped out of a car. He looked far worse in person than he had over the phone. The bandage over his left eye was unmistakable. He took Marco’s hand, whispered something, and then both their eyes found Camilla as she approached, tears in her own eyes.“You didn’t have to come here, Sal. Look at you,” she said.“It’s just one eye,” he tried to joke, his usual twisted humor surfacing despite everything. She did not have the patience for jokes.“One eye is a big deal, Sal. You can’t even walk properly,” she sai
CHAPTER SEVENTY FIVE
It was like a negotiation was ongoing on what sales would be achieved from selling him.Marco did not feel comfortable anymore around either of them and now, they made decisions like he had no one to speak for him.Perhaps, that was true but he seemed to understand the game of supremacy that was going on and that neither trusted the other between Camilla and Sal.“Marco, what Camilla and I want is the best for you. In the interim, there is no other person willing to protect you unless you win them over. And you can only win over those that are already on your side and camp.” Sal pointed out.“He speaks true. You have no one. The vast majority are on our uncle's side and would not hesitate to throw you out to the wolves.” Camilla said to him, her eyes nearly closing from being squinted so much to prove her sincerity.Marco nodded.“So, I should give up control of my life to two dangerous people I just met simply because they promise not to kill me?” he demanded.“Told you he was a hard
CHAPTER SEVENTY SIX
The car danced around on the road. Swerving from one side to the other as he controlled it with one hand. His eyes, off the road for the moment.“Sergio... Sergio... please.” Elena struggled to breathe as she tried to remove his firm grip from her neck. How was he this way? As mad as a hornet and abusive always? He gritted his teeth, grinding the top ones against the lower ones as his eyes darkened.“Tell me, who...? Who is he?” he demanded.Just then, she managed to slip his hand down and in that moment, the light of an approaching truck from the other lane he was halfway into blared out loud.BRRRR!!!! The driver honked with his might. Her eyes flashed right before her eyes.“Watch out!” she screamed as she pointed. It took him that moment to turn and then swerve the wheels to his own lane but it had been really sudden and since that road had a sharp bed, his side was supposed to be taken slowly but this move sent the car off the road, through a dusty area, breathing through an elec
CHAPTER SEVENTY SEVEN
The bulk of their walk had been centered around the intricacies of their family and of course, the evil dread called Don Lugard. Marco could tell he was being groomed to be a warrior and their arm with which they fought their common enemy.Lady Camilla in their little walk told him how his father had been close to her mother who had always looked out for him.But deep down, he battled within. Not a battle...his thoughts were alive.Awakened, one might say.If his father had been that close to her mother, how then had he grown not knowing them?Antonio felt and heard him then spoke. “This part, you should ask.” he urged Marco who smiled.Clearly, both he and the guide were working together.“But can I ask a question right there?” he said, softly like he was totally sold by her story. She wrung her neck like the light on a lighthouse as she wanted to see his expression.Seeing him, there was nothing suspicious.“Sure.”“How come didn't I know you if our parents were this close?” he aske
CHAPTER SEVENTY EIGHT
Sal got into the car with his heart hanging in his hands as he clearly was not satisfied with leaving Marco behind. But then, the man knew his business and what it entailed. There was no trust...But there was misleading trust...the type intended to lead one's enemies into such belief, comfort and reassurance of being on the same page.Working with Camilla who was also family to Marco was something that needed that type of transparency and trust. Something to tell her he was not a threat while being a menace within. He knew Camilla...He had studied her pattern...Her erratic nature...Her peaceful demeanor intended to make even the strongest man fall.If she were in the BC’s she could have done a neater job in contrast to what Delilah had done.Indeed, he had not learnt all of this while watching her from afar...Apparently, he and Camilla once shared a relationship beyond the visual friendship. One that involved silent whispers and snuggles in some sort of hide and seek. They hid fr
CHAPTER SEVENTY NINE
He knew this was it. The moment he could no longer avoid and antagonize Sal was more like a death sentence. But, was antagonizing the upper hand even better?“No one. I work alone.” Stefano said to Sal who smiled.“Really? You mean you have been roaming around our city without being picked up?” he demanded.“Shows I'm smarter, I guess.” Stefano said, shrugging his shoulders for a look of nonchalance but Sal already had his game in his head.“I see, so, you do realize that this is mine and Don Lugard’s city and we both want you put down.” Sal said but his eyes never left the young man.At the mention of Don Lugard being on Sal's side, Sal could have sworn that the young man did smile. It was like he was mocking Sal for his ignorance which was the one evidence Sal had been looking for.Something to make him point out the fact that Don Lugard was the puppet master behind the scenes. The one pulling those secret strings while playing it cool with Sal.Another reason for his seemingly ‘fac
