Episode Six-Part VII: Don't Mess With A Demon Pt III
A few minutes after being contacted by Rory, Ned arrived at the room. He stood still, staring at the cones as his matrix interface flickered across them, scanning each one. “It was good you didn’t touch the cones,” Ned said, adjusting his glasses. “They were programmed to shut down every active program in this room.” “Programs?” Zoe asked. “Do you mean even those inside the cones?” “Affirmatively,” Ned replied. “Any remedy?” Kai asked. “Let me work my magic.” Ned cracked his knuckles and began scanning the room for the operator. The others disbanded briefly under his command, spreading out to assist the search. Meanwhile, Neil was still locked in combat with the director. Boom— Dust erupted into the air as both fighters clashed again. This time, Delia decided to join the fight after observing for a while. She conjured ice spears and launched them at the director. He used his phantasm movement to dodge, then hopped backward, fear and disbelief flashing across his face.
Episode Six-Part VIII: Don't Mess With A Demon Pt IV
Neil’s glare hardened on Lui, his rage simmering to the surface. It was the kind of fury that stripped away the calm of the once-cool kid and revealed something darker underneath—a monster barely holding back. Before Lui could even rise from the ground, Neil vanished. In the blink of an eye, he switched positions with a nearby rock and reappeared before Lui, landing a crushing punch across his face that sent him sprawling again. Lui tried to recover, but Neil’s movements became a blur. He switched positions again—then again—each time appearing at a different angle and striking harder than before. The air cracked with every impact. Lui couldn’t predict it, couldn’t even see the transitions; Neil was everywhere, his fists driven by anger and the echo of memories he couldn’t silence. Each punch brought flashes—Chiyo’s smile, her laughter, her warmth. And then, one false image: Chiyo behind glass, trapped in a cone of light, looking at him with disappointment. The illusion hit harder th
Episode Seven-Part I: Mission Accomplished
“You kids are not normal,” Lui yelled. He couldn’t wrap his head around how he ended up at the top of another building, tied tightly to a chair. On closer look, he could see his company not too far from where he was being held. Chiyo had been rescued through the help of Ned’s matrix—he’d disabled the supercomputer’s programming and released everyone locked in the cone. All the kids now stood before Lui as he babbled, running out of things to say. Neil stared at him for a while, then walked toward the edge of the rooftop. From there, he could see the streets below filled with state cops questioning anyone who passed. Rory, meanwhile, was focused on analyzing Lui’s brain, trying to see what he planned to do with Chiyo. “I thought we were gonna lose you,” Freda wept, hugging Chiyo tightly. “I thought so too,” Chiyo smiled. “Good thing we got here on time,” Kai grinned. “Yes…” Lyn giggled. “You did the main job, you know.” “Hehe hehe heh.” Kai chuckled nervously. “I wouldn’t get u
Episode Seven-Part II: Going Back
“Aren’t you supposed to be with Chiyo?” Neil asked. "Well... At least she's safe." Zoe smiled. "I will let Freda have her for now." "Noted." Neil closed his eyes again and let sleep creep in. "Are you bailing on me?" Zoe asked. "Sorry." Neil smiled. "But I'm done for today... Besides, I have to come up with an appealing excuse for Prof. Hiro." "You're right." Ned said. "But does it matter?" Freda said, waking. "I'm ready to undergo any punishment... But I have already gotten my prize." She hugged Chiyo tight; the little girl winced, then drifted back to sleep. Dusk had settled. The weather was calm. They watched Chiyo snore gently, a small, fragile island of peace. "You're right." Neil said. "We did have our prize already." They climbed down at the last bus stop and walked toward the school gate. Jones, the gatekeeper, bent over a patch of flowers, mending a broken branch. He looked up as the kids came through — clothes torn, faces streaked with blood and dust, hair askew. Th
Episode Seven-Part III: Revelations
Neil opened his eyes and showed his comrades the spiral line around his iris—three petals blooming around the pupil.“I thought they used to be two petals?” Sandy asked.“It evolved to three.” Neil said as his eyes returned to normal. He explained that each petal symbolized new abilities he could use—but at a cost.“I often feel overwhelmed by a different force,” Neil continued. “A force that takes over my consciousness… making me do things I don’t want to do.”“Is that why you’re always at your limits?” Ned asked. “Because you’re holding yourself back from being taken over?”Neil nodded.“According to life’s force,” Reece began, “every living creature has both Yin and Yang energy within them. But you, Neil… yours is just Yang.”“Because I have no gifts,” Neil revealed. “I wasn’t born with one in the first place.”“I see you're all here, that saves me the time to summon all of you.”Everyone turned toward the entrance to see Hiro and Ms. Wade standing by the door. They walked calmly t
Episode Seven-Part IV: The Trip
"Good news, people..." Everyone turned to see Ms. Wade standing by the entrance of the bus. Their faces lit up; each of them looked sharp in clean, well-organized uniforms. She noticed and smiled cheerfully, filling the kids with excitement for what was to come. "I can’t believe it," Sandy whined. "We’re really doing it." "What’s that?" Neil asked, adjusting his ears to hear him. "We’re finally going out on a trip!" Sandy yelled. "This is by far the coolest thing that’s gonna happen to me this year." "Sandy..." Ms. Wade called softly. "Huh... Me?" Sandy gawked. "Cool it." She looked at him devilishly. "It’s not a school trip, it’s punishment for leaving school premises." "Eeeeeee..." Sandy screeched. Ms. Wade smiled, then let out a light laugh, tilting her head to the right. Neil noticed her gesture for a while before turning his attention to Sandy. "Relax... She was just kidding," Neil said. "I know it won’t be much work either." "Phew... Guess she got me pretty good then.
Episode Seven-Part V: The Trip pt II
A vibration buzzed against his leg—his phone. He pulled it out, checking the caller ID. “Dad?” he thought. “Is there something wrong?” He looked at his phone for a split second before answering it. “Hey, Dad…” Neil said softly. “Good morning.” “Morning… Where are you?” His father asked. “We’re going out on a tour,” Neil answered. “School trip.” “I see…” His father sighed. Neil could sense the weariness in his father’s voice, and it freaked him out. His father was always bold, calm, and firm. The only other time he’d heard that tone was when his powers first manifested—the day he was nearly killed. “Dad… is something wrong?” Neil asked, tension creeping into his tone. “I can sense that you’re on edge.” “Neil…” he was about to say something then stopped. “Yes, Dad…” Neil replied. Silence. No other sound came from the phone’s speaker—only static hums and the faint sound of Neil’s breathing. It almost felt like no one was there. “Something doesn’t feel right…” Neil thought, lo
Episode Seven-Part VI: The Spectre
The roar echoed through the jungle, sending birds scattering from their nests. Ms. Wade froze—whatever made that sound was terrifying. Before she could react, Jayden bolted toward the direction Neil and the others had gone. “Jayden!” she shouted, but he was already gone. She facepalmed in frustration, exhaling sharply before turning to the rest. Reece was clutching his chest, struggling to breathe. “Woohoo,” Sandy cheered, grinning, then turned to Ms. Wade. “Are we going in too?” “No.” Her tone was sharp. She faced Rory. “Found him yet?” “No…” “Then that’s it.” She faced the jungle. “We split up and find the driver.” She stepped toward the trees with Reece, but a sudden force field flared up, blocking the others path. They stopped in confusion. Sandy’s eyes caught a strange mark carved into a nearby tree. He stepped closer, squinting. “Zulu…” he muttered. Ned began analyzing the barrier, rambling about energy fields and frequencies, but Sandy interrupted. “This place

Silence... “No… not again…” Jayden’s voice trembled as rage welled up inside him. “Does it have to be this way?” Ms. Wade placed a hand on his shoulder, trying to calm him, but Jayden wasn’t having it. Freda was gone—again. His pulse hammered in his ears as he clenched his fists, ready to charge the specter— Then, a loud thud echoed nearby. A familiar laugh followed. Everyone turned. Freda stood there, brushing dirt off her clothes with a teasing smile. “Why are you smiling like you’ve been kissed by Zeus?” Ms. Wade teased. “Well, duh…” Freda rolled her eyes. Jayden’s face lit up. “What just happened?” Freda tucked stray strands of hair behind her ear, then pointed behind her. All eyes turned toward the hill. Neil stood at the top, Delia emerging from behind him. “Why did we have to make an entrance like that?” Delia muttered. Neil just chuckled as they descended. --- Meanwhile, on the other side of the jungle, Sandy knelt on the dirt, thrusting a stick into the ground.
Episode Seven-Part VIII: When Light Turns Black
A light breeze swayed through the jungle, brushing gently against the trees—then, in an instant, it changed. A violent gale storm tore through the forest, twisting trunks to their limits until they cracked like brittle bones. A blinding light exploded across the dark canopy, followed by a deafening whoosh as the storm howled to life. Faint voices pierced through the chaos, muffled and broken, like echoes of a battle hidden within the tempest. An impact rippled from within the light, shaking the ground. The brilliance faded, revealing two figures—one human, one shadow. Reece stood panting, eyes locked on the dark spectre that loomed before him. He raised his hands, conjuring a beam of light that swelled until it matched the size of the moon. The shadow lunged first, its tendrils slicing through the air like black lightning. “Get going, you guys!” Reece shouted over the storm. “Leave this to me!” His comrades hesitated as his light flared against the spectre’s darkness. Ms. Wade’s sh
