CHAPTER EIGHTY-TWO “What happened?” Ethan asked, getting up and walking up to her. “I don’t know!” Emma’s tone was shaky just like her breath, her hold on the phone had become slippery, almost causing her to drop it.“One minute I was talking with her, and the next minute I heard her screaming and crying for help! I think someone is hitting her!” Emma swallowed hard, taking a deep breath. “She needs my help, Ethan! I have to help her!” She attempted to leave the house, but Ethan dragged her.“Where are you going, Emma? You don’t even know her address.” He said calmly, and it suddenly hit her.Her panic rose. “What do I do, Ethan? I need to get to her before whoever it is kills her. I won’t forgive myself if anything should happen to my aunt.”“Relax,” Ethan said calmly, and then he took a deep breath. “We have to find a way.” He looked at the phone Emma was holding. “Why don’t you try calling her?”“Okay.” Emma nodded, and even though she was skeptical about what her husband said,

CHAPTER EIGHTY-THREE Ethan had already seen the young man standing in the middle of the road.He slowed down, keeping his pace steady. Emma didn’t like the fact that he was still moving. “I think you should stop the car, Ethan.” She said with a slippery voice, taking a deep breath. Seeing the wry smile on the strange man’s face, it dawned on her that they could be walking into a trap. Her heart beat faster, her perspiration increased, running slowly all over her face.Worst still, the young man looked like he had been standing there for a long time, awaiting someone he could ensnare. He was dressed in combat jeans, with no shirt. This made the scary tattoos all over his body visible, especially the drawings of guns, daggers, and skulls. Emma’s eyes widened when she saw those tattoos, and when the man took out a stick of cigarettes and lit it, she cleared her throat. The moment the man blew the smoke in the air, Emma looked at it like it was a warning sign, prompting her to turn

CHAPTER EIGHTY-FOUR Ethan hoped that he was going to get a suitable response from the men.He looked behind him, and seeing the figure of his wife, he took a deep breath. When he returned his gaze to the men, he saw that their leader was already marching toward him.He was puffing smoke in the air, thudding with his boots that made rattling sounds as a result of the chains fixed to them.Ethan remained calm, staring silently while he stayed quiet. He was able to keep his cool even when the man blew smoke into his face. Ethan slowly waved his hands across his face to clear the smoke. “I wasn’t expecting that.” He took a deep breath, and then he cleared his throat.“Don’t you think that’s a very rude thing to do?” He asked the man, taking a deep breath. He got no response, just a scowling glare which was accompanied by a snigger. But even when the man balled his left fist like he was about to throw a punch, Ethan remained calm. “What are you doing in our hood?” The man finally bro

CHAPTER EIGHTY-FIVE Emma stared with wide eyes, her blood almost seeming like it was running faster than it should.“What do you mean by that, Ethan? Why should I go to the back?”“Just trust me, Emma.” Ethan insisted, grabbing his wife’s hands. He looked her in the eyes, and then he took a deep breath.“This is not the time for us to argue, Emma. If you trust me, then you will do as I say. I don’t want these men to know that you are in here.” He paused for a while, still looking into the eyes of his bemused wife.“I have a plan, and the only way it is going to work is if you follow my instructions. Are you listening to me, Emma?”“What plan?” Emma asked, her breath shaky and seeming like it was no longer hers. “I already called the cops, Ethan! They promised that they will be here soon!”Ethan scoffed, prompting the certainty that Emma had to vanish.“Those men are going to deal with us before the police arrive. We have to do this on our own, okay?”Emma shook her head, but she kne

Ethan scoffed, looking the man in the eyes.“That’s a shame, because I remember you telling your men to beat me up. You seemed to be in the mood for so much trouble.” “No.” The man shook his head frantically, his forehead dripping with sweat. “I don’t want any trouble, man! Just take your stuff and leave. I am sorry for trying to attack you.”Ethan tutted, and then he sighed heavily.“That’s a shame. Because now, I am in the mood for trouble.” He inched closer to the man, causing him to fidget.“I wish you had listened to me, my friend. All of this could have been avoided if you had done what I asked you to do.”“I am sorry! I am very sorry!” The man pleaded, but Ethan didn’t look like he was ready to listen to him.“I am going to deal with you.” Ethan said, prompting him to gasp.Just then, Ethan heard the sound of loud groaning, and when he looked back, he saw one of the man attempting to break into his car, pulling the handle of the back door aggressively with all his might.Etha

CHAPTER EIGHTY-SEVENEthan was the first to alight from the car, and then he waited for her to come down as well. She was taking her time, but he didn’t mind waiting for her to get down. Emma looked at the mansion, and then she took a deep breath.“I hope we don’t get into any trouble, Ethan.” She cleared her throat, and then she started to walk toward the building with her husband. She could have concluded that no one was living in the mansion because of the silence, but that didn’t seem like it was enough to come to such a conclusion. Ethan grabbed her hand and held onto it with a tight grip. “Don’t worry, I will protect you.” He said with a soothing smile, and then he took a deep breath. They continued with slow and steady steps until they stopped in front of the door. Ethan moved his hand to knock, but Emma stopped him.“What?” He turned to her, staring with a wry smile. Emma took a deep breath, and then she spoke with a calm tone, “I think we should use the doorbell.” Etha

CHAPTER EIGHTY-EIGHT While Emma was still trying to get a grip on herself, Ethan was busy studying the man’s body language. He could see that Christoph avoided looking into his eyes, and that his tone was inconsistent. Emma almost had tears trickling down her face, and she almost let her phone fall from her hand. Christoph cleared his throat, deciding that he was going to break the silence. “I was busy when you knocked. I would like to return to what I was doing inside.” He tried to walk into the building, but Ethan stopped him.“Please wait, Christoph.” He said calmly, and then he took a deep breath. “Is there anyone else we could ask? Do you have a wife or children inside?” Ethan tried to look inside the house, but Christoph blocked the way, shaking his head slowly.“No.” He said with a calm tone, and then he took a deep breath.“I stay alone. I don’t have any wife or children.”“Right.” Ethan nodded with a wry smile. “Yes. You can go to the police. This is not the first tim

Christoph turned to Emma, and even when he growled at her, it was obvious that it was not going to change anything no matter how hard he tried to get her to speak to her husband. He turned to Ethan, shaking his head while he gnashed his teeth as though he was about to crush him between them.“You do realize that you have no right to stand before me and make false accusations, right? You have no proof.” Ethan scoffed. “But I didn’t accuse you of anything, Mr. Christoph. I simply demanded that you hand Sabrina over,:“But I don’t have her! Don’t you get it?!” Christoph turned to Emma, growling furiously.“I don’t have your aunt! I have never seen that woman in my life!” His outburst made Emma take two steps backward, and she took a deep breath while she looked him in the eyes, frightened by his fierce eyes. Christoph’s stature was intimidating, and Emma was afraid that he was going to do something terrible to them.Nevertheless, she seemed to have seen the same thing Ethan saw, the gu

Ethan fell to the ground, blood dripping from the wound Christoph had inflicted on him with the gun.His eyes were tightly closed, and certain that he had passed out, Christoph took a deep breath, panting while he cleared his throat. Then he dropped the gun and sat down on the single couch behind him. When he was able to get a grip on himself, he stood up and cautiously walked up to Ethan with slow steps. He kicked him to be certain that he was not faking his black out, and even though he didn’t make any move, he didn’t seem satisfied. So he kicked him the second, the third, and even the fifth time, increasing the force just to be certain that he was truly unconscious. Convinced that Ethan was no longer going to trouble him, he sighed heavily, and then he left the room, running down the stairs while he held onto the rail.He was almost out of breath, but his desperation kept him moving. As soon as he got to the living room and took a right turn, he saw Emma holding onto a distres

CHAPTER NINETY-ONE Emma groaned, staggering back to her feet. “I am alright.” She managed to break her silence, leaning on the wall to maintain her balance. Then she took a deep breath, turning to Sabrina. “Aunt Sabrina?” She called out, but there was no response. Unable to fight off the feeling that intensely surged into her, she quickly ran to the lady, went down on her knees beside her, and tried to get her to stand. “Aunt Sabrina?!” She called out again, but there was still no response. “Can you hear me?!” She pushed, her breath unsteady. “Get up, Aunt Sabrina! Wake up!” Tears slowly trickled down her face, and when she lowered her ear to Sabrina’s chest, she sighed heavily. “We need to take her to the hospital, Ethan!” She turned to her husband, breathing frantically. Paul shook his head in refusal. “No one is taking her to the hospital! She is not leaving my house! She is my wife!” Ethan growled at him, reminding him that he was with a gun. “That’s not your decisi
