CONFRONTING HER MOTHER (2)
A few days later......Sera walked in and saw her mother at the usual spot. She shook her head slightly, as she knew that the conversation would be deadly.Sera went to sit down beside her mother, having it at the back of her mind that it was going to be a deadly war with both sides going bloody.Victoria's face was pale, but she masked it with a calm expression on her face as she played with the hem of her garment. All these actions that she was doing, were in hidden places where her daughter's eyes could not see."Shall we continue from the angle we stopped at the last meeting?" Sera asked coolly as a tremor ran down Victoria's spine."Sure" Victoria said, trying to maintain a cool facade, knowing deep down that it's only a matter of time that cracks would appear on the mask soonest."You have a knack for creating trouble mom" Sera said as she saw the 'evidences' that was on top of the table."Guess you're not too busy that you took enough time in creating the dossier, What were
FALLING TO A DEADLY TRAP
Victoria Shaw sat in her car outside Bella Vista, her hands trembling on the steering wheel, when her phone rang. Unknown number. She almost didn't answer, but something within her told her not to keep the call. Ignoring the warnings, she picked up the call."Mrs. Shaw." Dorian's voice . "I heard about your lunch with Sera. Unfortunate."Victoria's breath caught. "How did you—""I have people watching your daughter. For strategic purposes, you understand. When she left the restaurant looking angry and you remained inside for another twenty minutes, it wasn't difficult to deduce that things didn't go as planned." There was a pause. "She recorded the conversation, didn't she?"Victoria's hand shook slightly. It was at this moment that she knew that the person who she was working for was a deadly one. Her free hand was clutched to the hem of her garment."Yes," Victoria whispered."And now you're thinking about pulling back. Maybe calling your husband, telling him this has gone too far,
FALLING TO A DEADLY TRAP (2)
Preston Shaw was already trembling slightly as he was talking to Dorian but he was careful enough that he didn't allow it to affect his voice."Refusing to co-operate with me will lead to devastating consequences" Dorian said.Preston had a dumbfounded look on his face, thinking about the words that Dorian had said deeply."Well.....what do you have that could be used against us, besides you related the information that everything that we are doing is legal" Preston said. There was silence at the other end of the phone, a smirk was seen on Preston's face as he thought that he was on the winning side. All colors drained from his face when Dorian replied to him."FYI, the one hundred and twenty thousand dollars that you collected from me was linked to a criminal offshore accounts, That was the money that you used to sabotage Elias Vance, the falsified documents that you gave to the plaintiff, the confidential business information you sold to Crane's competitors, and the testimony you pr
THE BUMBLING SABOTEURS
Preston Shaw sat at the dining table; the one that they had converted to an office after selling furniture from his study staring at the laptop screen. His anxiety ticked every minute. Dorian's latest instructions had arrived that morning via encrypted email; and they were very specific: leak confidential development plans for Shaw Realty’s upcoming Harbor East expansion to three competing firms.Preston could not access the development plans because he did not have the access codes. He had gotten close to an employer in the foundation in order to get the login details. He found out that the login details had been changed making the one he had null and void.He had been sitting there for two hours, trying to navigate folders and subfolders, downloading files that looked relevant. The Harbor East project was Elias's flagship development, a mixed complex worth over two hundred million dollars that would reshape an entire waterfront district. If Preston could get those plans to competit
THE BOARD MEETING
Elias Vance sat at the front of the conference table in Shaw Realty's executive boardroom, having a blank look on his face as one of the executive members delivered the bad news. It has been three days since Preston Shaw had released the raw data, while the initial assessment had been that no real damage had occured, the reality of the situation had entered a complicated state.“Urban Horizon called this morning,”Jennifer Watts, his Vice President of Development section said, her tablet displaying a series of urgent emails. “They're not using our stolen plans directly, but they've filed applications for three parcels adjacent to our Harbor East site. Parcels we were planning to acquire next quarter.”“They knew we wanted those parcels because it was in the development plans Preston sent them,” Elias said in a cold voice.“Exactly. They're not stupid enough to copy our designs or strategies, but they're using the intelligence about our intentions to block us.” Jennifer pulled up a map
THE RIVERSIDE FOUNDATION GALA
The Riverside Foundation Gala was the type of event that Victoria Shaw had once navigated without stress. The foundation had five hundred people in attendance, as they drank their champagne and talked about other’s interests. The city elites mingled beneath the crystal chandelier that had more worth than some people's homes. But tonight, standing near the entrance in a borrowed gown that was not fitting for her, Victoria began to develop the imposter syndrome. She had received Dorian's instructions and hour before the event through a text message“Create a scene, embarrass Elias publicly. Make people remember this night for the wrong reasons. Let the act be emotional, be visible, be irresistible to ignore.Victoria had read the message a few more times as she shook her head. She pondered for a while, trying to understand Dorian's instructions. Create a scene? She had used thirty years of her life to avoid scenes, maintaining dignity and having the aura of a dignified lady. Was she sup
ANOMALY
A few weeks later.......Elias Vance had drunk the first and second coffee; he was about to drink his third coffee when his phone vibrated. He waved it off thinking that it was not an important business call as he had told the executives that they were not permitted to call his private line except on matters that require urgency. He looked at the document in front of him and realized that he had made losses more than profits and was about to create a strategy that would make up for the losses when he heard a knock on the door."Come in" Elias saidMarcus entered the office with a troubled look on his face causing Elias to look at him with raised eyebrows."Bad news" he began.Although Elias had a calm look on his face, his mind was racing at a faster pace."Which is?" Elias asked."An unknown source had dropped information concerning the Riverside project" Marcus replied.Elias dropped the document that was in his hands and said."Give me full details.""Environmental contamination. THE CALL (1)
Elias Vance's phone began to vibrate at around 6:00 AM dragging him from the little sleep that he had managed after spending most of the night analyzing the stock market losses. He reached for it lazily, his mind was still foggy and he saw the name: Robert Sterling, CEO of Sterling Bank. That alone was enough to wake him completely. Bank CEOs didn't make personal calls at dawn unless something was definitely wrong."Mr. Robert," Elias answered, already sitting up and reaching for his laptop. "What happened?""Elias, I'm sorry to call so early, but I wanted you to hear this from me directly before the formal notification arrives." Robert Sterling said in a cold tone."Sterling Bank's risk management committee held an emergency session last night. Given yesterday's market volatility and the concerns about structural integrity issues in your properties, we're implementing a temporary suspension of your credit facility pending a comprehensive review."Elias' heart raced at a faster pace.
THE CALL(2)
The call came at 2:47 AM, jolting Elias from the restless sleep he'd finally managed after eighteen hours of crisis meetings with the lenders. The number showed Jennifer Watts, his VP of Development; never a good sign at this hour."There's a fire at Harbor Point," she said without preamble, her voice tight with controlled panic. "Major one. Fire department's on the scene now."Elias was already out of bed, pulling on clothes with one hand while keeping the phone pressed to his ear. "How bad?""I don't have full details yet, but the site foreman called me ten minutes ago. He said flames were visible from three blocks away." Jennifer's voice wavered slightly. "Elias, the entire west tower is involved. That's where we just finished the structural work and were about to start interior designs.""I'm on my way. Get Marcus and David on a conference line in fifteen minutes." Elias grabbed his keys and headed for the garage. "And Jennifer? Call our insurance broker. Now."The drive to Harbor
THE MEETING
Sarah Winters, walked into Elias office at 9:14 AM carrying a thick folder which contains files of different kinds; she had a troubled expression on her face. Behind her, Thomas Bradford from the banking relationship teams, his expression looking grim. Elias had been on the phone with the insurance company about the Harbor Point fire for three hours straight and the interruption meant that something serious had occurred."We have a problem" Sarah began as she placed the folder on his desk. "A big one" She continued.Elias ended his call and gestured for them to sit down. "Given that our building project burned down two days ago, our credit facilities are suspended, and our stock dropped eighteen percent, I'm curious what qualifies as a bigger problem.""Someone is spreading rumors through the financial community that Shaw Realty is under federal investigation for securities fraud," Thomas said. "And those indictments are imminent."Elias was confused but masked it with a calm look, h
