CHAPTER 131
The doctor lingered for a minute, an expression of temptation and indecisiveness etched across his face. “Come on, take it. This might be the easiest huge money you have ever made in your life,” Clara urged. The doctor hesitated for a few more seconds, then shook his head slowly, “I am sorry but I can’t accept the money. If anyone finds out about this, I am going to be in a lot of trouble. They are going to seize my license and I will lose my job,” he retorted.“You don’t need to worry about being discovered, doctor,” Adrian pressed on. “Only the four of us know that Abigail was actually not raped. And we plan to keep it that way”. Adrian sighed and reached into his other pocket, then pulled out another envelope. “I knew you would play hard to get, that is why I brought more. Take this, this is another $40,000. That is more than your annually salary. Is this enough to change your mind”. The doctor gulped, giving the money a side eye. “Are you sure no one will find out about this?
CHAPTER 132
As soon as the call ended, Adrian and Clara expressed their excitement. “I can’t believe this. Magazine? Paul Langton? This is a dream come true!” Clara said with a big, unrestrained smile. Adrian threw his hand around her waist, pulled her close and they exchanged a passionate kiss. “We are going to be celebrities,” he said smugly. “We should go and pop some champagnes to celebrate this moment”. Abigail looked away, her jaw clenched in jealousy. “So you guys are going to celebrate while I stay in the hospital?”The couple stopped smiling seeing her displease. “Don’t worry Abigail, once this is over, we will throw a grand party at my house and invite everyone. You will have so much fun. But right now, you have to remain in the hospital for a few more days so earn people’s pity,’ Adrian explained.A few minutes later, Adrian and Clara exited the hospital and headed towards the Magazine Company for the photo shoot, from there they would proceed to the podcast. Abigail was left al

She stared at both of them, eyes wide, chest rising and falling rapidly. “What… what are you talking about?” she asked, her voice trembling with disbelief. “I was raped! I’m the victim here! And you’re saying things like that to me?”Her father’s jaw tightened.“Shut up.” His voice was low, but it carried a dangerous edge.Abigail blinked. “Dad?”“I said shut. Up.” This time he barked it.She flinched. For the first time in her life, she saw something in her father’s eyes that terrified her. It was a mixture of fear and rage.Abigail swallowed. “You’re acting like you don’t even care that I was assaulted,” she said, her tone rising in frustration. “Do you think I would lie about something like that?”Her mother let out a sharp, humorless laugh.“Lie?” she repeated bitterly, shaking her head in disdain. “You think we don’t know the truth?”Abigail’s brows furrowed. “What truth?”Her father stepped closer to the bed. His polished shoes clicked against the tiled floor. He bent slightly,
CHAPTER 134
The central police station buzzed with restless energy.Phones rang nonstop. Officers hurried past each other with files and tablets in their hands. The air was thick with tension, and at the center of it all stood a female inspector— Inspector Halton, her face flushed with anger as she paced back and forth in her office.“Nothing?” she snapped into her phone. She paused, listening to the voice at the other end of the call, her jaw tightening.“Nothing at all? Not a trace of him?”She ended the call before the officer on the other end could even finish his apology.“This is unacceptable!” she shouted, slamming the phone onto her desk. “A dangerous criminal is on the run, and all you have for me is nothing?”Her eyes swept across the male and female officers standing stiffly in front of her.“I want every street camera accessed,” she barked. “Every bus stop, every junction, every alley. I don’t care how you do it. I want Darren Wayne found today!”The officers nodded in affirmation, tu

The inspector’s eyes were still blazing from Abigail’s confession when the officer at the door cleared his throat.“Ma’am, someone sent a package for you.”Inspector Halton turned sharply. “Who sent it?”The young officer shifted uneasily. “They didn’t say, ma’am. A delivery guy just brought it to me at the front desk. No name. No return address.”Her jaw tightened. “Bring it.”He stepped forward and placed a small brown envelope on her desk. Unlike delivery packages, this envelope had no markings. No sender’s informations. The only write up on it was, ‘To Inspector Halton’The Inspector glared at it suspiciously.Abigail was still kneeling on the floor, her parents standing stiffly behind her. Everyone’s eyes drifted to the envelope as though it were something alive.Inspector Halton lingered for a few seconds, then tore it open. Several glossy photographs slid out onto the desk. They were five photos in total. Her brows furrowed as she picked up the first one. The picture showed Of
CHAPTER 136
For several seconds after the gunshot, the temperature in the room dropped to zero. No one moved. No one said a word. Some officers had their mouths open. Others had their hands pressed to their chests. A few looked away, unable to face the sight. The room was filled with police officers who have seen a lot of terrible and terrifying things throughout in their profession. But nothing had horrified them as much as the lifeless body lying in front of them. This wasn’t the corpse of any random criminal or stranger. This was a man they had known and worked with for years.Inspector Halton stood frozen, her hands still raised from where she had tried to stop him. Slowly, she lowered them. Her eyes remained locked on Kingsley’s lifeless body, wide with shock.“He… he really killed himself,” one officer whispered, his voice cracking.Another shook his head slowly. “Why would he rather die than talk? Who could he be so afraid of?”The questions hung in the air, unanswered.Inspector Halton s

***In a well-lit studio where the lights were blinding, cameras hovered on silent tracks, red recording lights blinking steadily, while producers whispered into headsets behind the scenes.Across the glossy glass table sat Adrian and Clara, facing the biggest broadcaster in the country— Paul Langton. The broadcast was live and over ten million viewers were tuned in. Which was thirty five percent of the country’s overall population.Paul leaned forward slightly towards the camera, his voice calm and controlled from years of experience.“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for staying with us. Today, our guest are two individuals who have come forward to speak on behalf of a young woman who is a recent victim of brutal assault.”He turned to Adrian and Clara.“Adrian. Clara. First, thank you for coming despite the emotional weight of everything that has happened.”Adrian lowered his head, pretending to swallow grief. Clara dabbed the corner of her eye with a white handkerchie

Adrian tried to regain control. “Paul, let’s calm down—”“Calm down?” Paul barked, cutting him off. “You called for the death penalty of an innocent young man just because you wanted to exact your revenge on him?”Clara tried to speak but he cut her off with a raised palm. He glared at them irritatingly and said, “You are the most disgusting guests I have ever hosted. Inviting you to my broadcast is the biggest mistake I’ve ever made in my career”The cameras were still rolling. Millions of people were watching everything.“Security!” Paul called. Two large guards entered immediately.“Throw these two out of my studio and I don’t want to ever see them anywhere around here.”Adrian’s face drained. “Don’t do this Paul… You can’t do this!”“Oh, I can,” Paul snapped. “And I just did.”Clara hissed at Abigail as they were grabbed. “You ruined everything!”Abigail didn’t respond as they were dragged out of the studio.Adrian and Clara had come to the studio to become famous, but they ended
CHAPTER 139
The police station was unusually loud that evening. Not chaotic but tense. Two officers stood behind the booking desk, taking in information and preparing the paperwork. “Name, age and residential address?” One of the officers asked.Adrian did not answer. He acted as if he was not the one the officer was talking to. “I said give me your name, age and residential address?” The officer asked again. Adrian smirked disdainfully and responded in a casual tone, “This is unnecessary. What is the essence of giving you my details when I will soon be leaving here?”Across the room, Clara stood in front of a camera. On the wall behind her, there was a height chart on it.“Remove your shoes and stand straight so that I can get your mugshot,” an officer instructed flatly.Clara rolled her eyes. “I won’t remove my shoes for anybody. Do you even know who I am?”The officer didn’t respond. He simply walked into Inspector Halton’s office and a minute later, the inspector followed him back to the b

Darren’s expression darkened. Watching the arrogance of those two and their complete absence of remorse for what they had done made his blood boil.If there had been even the slightest trace of mercy forming anywhere in his heart, it crumbled instantly. Now a vicious fire burned inside him. He was going to make them pay, no matter what.He turned toward Mrs. Morgan and said in a calm tone, “If you want me to forgive your daughter, she should go to the university and confess the truth before all the students and staff. Only after that will I decide what to do next.”Mrs. Morgan nodded quickly. “Yes, sir, she will do just that.”Unlike Adrian and Clara, Abigail’s parents were not completely ignorant about Darren. They knew he was not some nobody as Adrian kept calling him. It was just that they did not know who he truly was.Instantly, she got up and, together with Abigail, the Morgans exited the police station. Inspector Halton ordered a few of the officers to follow them. Abigail was
