Chapter 110
Greg could tell that the lines were blurring in her mind. She hadn't said it out loud, but in her mind, the conversation had shifted from the tailor and his wife to her and her husband. "Death doesn't scare me," Greg said. Quietly, he left out the fact that the reason he wasn't afraid of death was because, in this dungeon, it wouldn't mean the permanent end of him. "To have never lived is what I truly fear," He said. Zarra's eyes turn to her knee as she felt Greg place a hand there. "No woman," Greg spoke as he used the fingers of the hand still on her knee to slowly pull up the hem of her saree-like dress. "Should ever be made to feel unwanted or undesirable," he said bringing his face dangerously close to hers. "Especially by the man they are supposed to spend their whole life with," He continued just as the hem of her dress rose above her knees. Greg could feel a shiver run through her as his hand disappeared under her dress and started to glide up her thigh. "S... stop!" For the

Leave," Came the calm instruction from the man to Zarra. Despite the cold way that the man was regarding him. Greg could detect a hint of care in the man's voice as he directed this single word at his wife. Zarra looked like she was about to protest, maybe even come to his defense. A single look from her husband, however, and she was meekly walking out of the room with her head down. There was one last guilty look sent his way by Zarra when she went to the door of the room. In short order, however, she was out of the room and now it was just Greg left with two people that looked about as friendly as vipers ready to strike."Who are you and who sent you?" The man, Sir Joram as the thief had called him, lost any warmth that had been in his voice. His tone became glacial and the look in his eyes was positively murderous. An easy and relaxed smile crossed Greg's expression even as he tried to mask his fear and project an air of calm that he didn't truly feel. "The name's Roka," Greg repli
Chapter 112
The man regarded him for a long time in silence. Greg could tell by the look in his eyes that something of what he had said had hit home with the man. There was a slightly conflicted expression on the man's face. Greg could almost see the tug of war between the man's pride and his feelings for Zarra. For a moment, Greg thought that he might have succeeded in getting the man to turn his attention away from him and towards his wife. Greg, however, couldn't help the sigh he let out when the man's expression hardened once more. "Three days," He growled. "You better have come up with the most ingenious escape plan ever devised," He said with a note of dark amusement. "You'll need it," He declared... *** Greg walked through the garden looking this way and that. After speaking to the other servants, he'd found out that Zarra was here. The garden, however, was composed of hedges that, while immaculately trimmed, were rather tall and easily obscured one's line of sight. He'd already been mov
Chapter 113
There was such a relaxed air about the young man. It was as if nothing in the world could ever touch him. Part of her wanted to just dismiss it as the folly of youth and yet, another part of her so deeply desired to have that wide-eyed wonder and intensity with which he seemed to be living his life. What is it that the young man said? Death does not scare him, but to never really have lived is what he feared. Before she could stop herself, the woman leaned forward and locked lips with him. It felt like sparks of electricity were coursing through her even as their tongues danced a duet of their own, pushing and pulling, twisting and turning as they explored each other. Like a pebble carried along by a strong current, she found herself being swept up in the intense emotions of the moment. Never had she felt so alive. Never had she felt so safe in someone's arms. Never had she felt so wanted by someone. Never had she felt so... guilty. A sigh left Zarra as she pulled back from Greg's l
Chapter 114
Of course, it was a lie. Out in the real world, Greg could use a storage ring to carry arrows around. As such, even if he wasn't carrying a full quiver, he could still take out an arrow at any point and shoot with it. Inside the dungeon, however, the same was not true. Right now, Greg was just an idiot with a bow and no arrows. Not only had Greg messed up by being overconfident in his abilities and thinking that success was assured, but he also didn't have the opportunity to go looking for arrows. Back at the tailor's shop, when Greg remembered the soul bow, he'd realized that he'd need arrows. He, however, couldn't exactly walk away from Zarra to go looking for arrows. Partly because it would have made Zarra suspicious and cautious of him, but mainly, because he wouldn't have even known where to start! Greg still didn't know much of the city of Torrin. Had he gone off looking for arrows, chances are that he would have gotten lost, and even more likely, run into members of the spide
Chapter 115
Eventually, the pressure seemed to be too much for the group and one of the three men with a spider tattoo under his left eye stepped forward. As soon as he'd moved, Greg had raised the bow in his direction, ready to let the string go. The man had immediately raised his hands in what seemed to be a sign of surrender even in this world. Much to Greg's surprise, with his hands still in the air, he bowed low at the waist towards Greg. "The spider gang apologizes for this misunderstanding!" The man spoke in a gruff tone of voice. Before Greg could even make heads or tails of this sudden turn of events, Sir Joram's angry voice was heard. "What the hell do you think you are doing?" he barked at the man. The spider gang member that had stepped forward, however, completely ignored the man's outburst. His gaze remained fixed on Greg awaiting his response to his apology. Looking at the two other spider gang members, Greg could easily pick up on the relief in their expressions at the fact that
Chapter 116
Greg needed a way of keeping the man from attempting something else in the remaining time that he had within the dungeon. He may have succeeded in fending off this first attempt, but there was no reason to believe that the man wouldn't make another even more concerted effort to kill him. Greg wasn't going to make the same mistake again of thinking that just because his enemy was pacified for the moment he wouldn't strike at him in the future. That's where his fake teacher came in. If Greg was the man's sole target, Sir Joram would probably still have enough confidence and motivation to make another attempt. Especially because he'd come upon his wife in Greg's hands. With a mysterious teacher brought into the picture, however, the whole scenario changed. Of course, the man knew that there was a chance that Greg was lying. He, however, just simply couldn't take the chance. Mages in the lower tiers rarely if ever took on students of their own. After all, they too were still pursuing hi
Chapter 117
There was a long silence as Greg found himself conflicted. A big part of him wanted to decline the offer and take Zarra. Not only because he desired the woman but also because a deeper darker part of him wanted to spite the man! He wanted Sir Joram to know that because of his actions, he was forced to pay money to the man that was fucking his wife. However, killing the man for self-defense was one thing, forcing him to undergo humiliation just for his self-gratification was another. Did he really want to be warped into the type of person who took pleasure in the pain of others? Greg knew that he wouldn't just wake up one day and be that type of person. Instead, it would happen slowly, over time, through many micro-decisions just like the one placed before him right now! This was probably what his familiar had been trying to warn him about when she said that while pain might be jarring and easily recognizable, pleasure was a silent poison. Every time he said yes to his baser desires,
Chapter 118
Greg didn't know what to make of the situation. The worst part was that he couldn't even ask Olivia and get her advice about it as he had no way of explaining the situation to her. Part of him felt sorry for Roka and how it was he had died. To be left with such grievance and hatred in death was a terrible fate for anyone. At the same time, Greg couldn't help feeling a bit of annoyance and frustration directed at Roka for messing with what would probably become one of his primary weapons in this world. Heedless of Greg's internal ruminations, however, the system continued to produce more text. THE DUNGEON TRIAL HAS ENDED. ASSESSING PERFORMANCE. Chapter 119
Greg was surprised to see the state of his teacher when he walked into the infirmary. He could understand why he looked a bit frazzled. It had been a torturous hour before the harsh effects of the dungeon dive had ebbed enough for him to sleep. But while they had ebbed, they hadn't gone away entirely. Despite sleeping for most of the night, Greg felt a deep fatigue that permeated his whole body. It was as if he hadn't slept a wink. According to Olivia, this was also because of the toll on his soul that the dungeon dive took. His body was perfectly rested and sleeping a little longer wouldn't do anything for him. As such, Greg forced himself out of bed despite his body feeling like it was tied down with lead weights. Not that Greg would have missed today's lesson even if actual lead weights had been tied to him. What Greg hadn't expected was to find his teacher in an even worse state than he was in. The healer's raven black hair which usually flowed in a straight line down her back w
