A Broken Family
"What are you all really hiding from me?" Lily questioned but was met with absolute silence once more from the three Monroe's."Why aren't you saying anything!" She persisted. She looked at Robert, but he avoided her gaze— like a scared puppy that knew it had done something wrong. She opened her mouth to speak again, but her phone suddenly vibrated, cutting her off.Lily's focus shifted to her phone and her gaze landed on the sender of the text. 'Adrian? What is so important that he had to text me?'She knew the current Adrian wouldn't just text her out of the blue for no apparent reason. Wherever he must have sent had to be very important, and she had to read it.Lily opened the message quickly. Then she saw it, written boldly.ADRIAN: LILY, DON'T LET ANYONE TAKE YOUR PHONE. LEAVE THE HOUSE NOW.Lily's eyes widened. She could feel the urgency and panic radiating from the text. Was her family in danger? If so, why was she the only one that received the text. Or was she the one in dan
The First Leak
The next morning, Adrian called for a meeting at the top most floor of MMG.The briefing room was completely silent and still.Eric Thorne stood at the head of the long glass table placed in the centre of the large room, face grim, sleeves rolled up and eyes burning with cold fury that could only mean two things.Firstly, someone had breached into their systemsAnd secondly, that person was going to pay dearly for it.Standing firmly with arms crossed, just opposite of Eric at the other head of the glass table was Adrian. The room’s ceiling lights shined in just the right direction to cut sharp angles across his face.He looked like a man trying to determine whether he was angry—or impressed.Vivian sat at the far end of the table, her computer open in front of her.She projected the encrypted data trail onto the wall screen. A maze of broken pathways. Fragmented metadata. Ghost signatures.Nothing normal reflected through those lines.“This isn’t an amateur...and we all know it,” Viv
The Interrogation
Lily walked down the hallways of MMG's top floor. Her heels clattered against the polished tiled floor in a slow rhythmic manner. She had just finished performing surgery on a patient with a hernia when one of the nurses hurried in and informed her that she was needed in the chairman’s office.'We haven’t spoken since the first day I came into this hospital. So why is he suddenly calling for me now?' Lily wondered as she approached the office. 'Does it have something to do with the text he sent…?'She stopped in front of the large double doors, her eyes lingering on the sign mounted above them: Chairman Cole.Lily took a deep breath, before exhaling sharply and pushing the double doors.Upon entering, her eyes instantly widened. 'This...this office looks so different now...'The office looked larger, and incredibly neat. A floor-to-ceiling window was placed at the edges of the office showing the city skyline.A faint hum could be heard from the AC, giving the room a cool environment.
The First Attempt
Lily stared blankly at her desk. Her shift had ended an hour ago, but she decided to stay back and calm her head. The conversation she had with Adrian kept on replying in her head over and over again. Every word. Every cold stare. No matter how much she tried, she couldn't get it out of her head. She finally exhaled, long and exhausted. "I really should start going home now..."A glance at her watch made her sit up abruptly. "It's already 11:30 pm... Great... I overstayed an entire two hours without even realizing it."She immediately took of her still sparkling white lab coat and hung it, before grabbing her bag and heading out of the hospital. The corridor lights felt brighter and harsher this late at night, and the atmosphere was extremely quiet. When she stepped into the parking lot, she stopped for a moment. The place was almost empty as most of the staffs had already closed for the day.Only a few scattered cars belonging to the night-shift staff. The air was cold and freezing.
Lily's Promotion
The morning air in MMG felt strangely calm. Sunlight filtered through the tall windows of the main lobby, bouncing of the polished floors as doctors, nurses and interns moved about, each of them lost in their own routines. Coffee cups clinked and paper alerts buzzed.Life was going on as usual in the hospital, like nothing had happened. Then, suddenly—A voice from the intercom broke the monotony. It crackled through the corridors with abrupt authority .“All departmental heads to the main conference hall. Immediately.”Whispers erupted instantly as confusion began settling in the mind of the staffs.“Why is the chairman calling everyone at once?”“Did someone… die?”“It’s probably another audit.”But what everyone had at the back of their minds, was that something big was going to happen. Whenever the Chairman called for a meeting such as this, big changes were bound to happen in the hospital.Everyone moved with a mixture of curiosity and anxiety, all of them shuffling into the larg
Investigating for Evidence
Adrian sat in his slightly dark office, still and rigid. It was already late at night, and the only thing brightening the room were the dim city lights outside and the dozens of screens turned on in front of him.Files could be seen scattered around his desk, but that was not what grabbed his attention— instead his cold gaze was directed at the CCTV clips he had been watching over and over again, for the past five hours. Each CCTV footage displayed activities that occurred within the hospital, and also covered the hospital's surrounding area. One clip in particular keeps replaying. The clip of the hit that was pulled on Lily.'I thought it might have been a mistake, but there are no mistakes here... Everything is too precise...too deliberate.' Adrian pondered quietly. He replayed the clip frame by frame again, this time noting every timing, vehicle movement and personnel reaction.'The driver's behavior is rather unusual. There are slight deviations in traffic patterns, then there is
The Silent Infiltrator
Adrian stood over the ventilator with a slightly worried expression on his face. The soft him of the hospital machines faded behind him as he pulled up the system logs, his eyes narrowed at the scrolling data.Every line has a different story to it— timestamps, adjustments, and lots of overrides. And buried in the middle of it was one thing that stopped him cold. The internal safety protocol — it hadn't failed. No it was something entireky different. It has been bypassedHe opened the access panel. His fingers moved with practiced precision. Something that he had honed for years during his time as a surgeon in MMG.A familiar code blinked at him from the override line— one he had seen once before, buried deep in CokeTech's restricted files.Something that no regular staff member should have even known existed in the first place. His jaw tightened. 'This isn't random... Someone has access to the internal codes.''I would have loved to have pointed fingers at Lillian and the rest of thos
The Boardroom meeting
"Now— what is the purpose of this wonderful gathering this early morning." Adrian questioned, a cold smile tugging at his lips. The board members maintained silence. They were clearly weighing their options on what words to use so as to not anger their Chairman."W—well Mr. Chairman," One of the Board members, Mr. Halden spoke up first. "We called this meeting...because of the decision you made yesterday.""Y—yes... The decision to make Mrs. Lily the Interim Director came as a great shock to all of us indeed." Mr. Clarke decided to speak up next after seeing no reaction whatsoever from Adrian."It's true sir." Another one gathered the courage to speak. "That was a really big decision. How come we weren't notified before hand?!"The remaining board members quickly followed, voicing their complaints one after another the moment they realized the Chairman had said nothing to the first three. In an instant, the atmosphere in the boardroom shifted—tense silence dissolved into a wave of rel
Sabotaged Files
n the busy lobby of MMG, on the very last floor. The nurses. Doctors. All staff patrolling the lobby around that time watched as Mr. Halden walked out with all his work items in a large box.Whispers bounced off the walls and a strange uneasiness could be felt in the atmosphere."Isn't that the Director of the Radiology department?!""So he has decided to fire another one. Honestly, this new chairman is crazy." One of the nurses said."Well I prefer his methods." Dr. Thompson's voice echoed behind the nurse causing her to flinch. "It's like— he is purging all the corruption that was bringing this hospital down."----“Does anyone else feel like questioning my decision.” Adrian said coldly, walking back to his seat.Silence. No one has an answer. No wanted to speak. They were all afraid that they would be kicked out of the company as well, just like Mr. Halden. On reaching his seat, Eric turned and whispered into his ear."Sir! Something very urgent has come up.""I see...." Adrian whi
The Hunt Begins
Adrian moved through the corridors of the hospital quietly. The hospital itself was already half-asleep, caught between night and morning, it's silence only broken by the faint beeping of monitors and the soft drone of fluorescent lights overhead. Most people found the emptiness unsettling, especially the patients and the night staff. Adrian meanwhile found clarity in it. Fewer distractions. Fewer lies in motion. This was the best time he could use to think about his next steps. His eyes swept over everything. An unattended cart pushed too close to a fire door, a badge reader blinking an unusual shade and a stack of charts left slightly out of alphabetical order. Little things.Very forgettable to anyone else, but not to Adrian. Anomalies were never accidents. They were signals. Left over breadcrumbs.Someone has intentionally touched the systems. Someone was probing the edges by messing with little things that could end up causing big problems. This were patterns, all of them. Patte
