CHAPTER 61
While Jared and Becky dined away at an exquisite restaurant, Sammy Jo burned and seethed in his private study. It was a small, tastefully furnished room with a navy blue theme and the dreariness matched his current mood. He was yet to get over the disappointment from Sky run Inc. How dare those rascals deny him of a right he had been entitled to since birth? There is a small and subtle knock on the door. Sammy Jo’s scowl deepens. He is sure that it is one of the maids. His grip on his pencil tightens when the knock comes again, threatening to send him into full blown rage.“Get lost!” Sammy Jo yelled. He snapped the pencil in his hand and could hear the maid whimper before scurrying away from his door. He would not be interrupted at this moment. Not when he was busy scheming and pondering something so vital and important. How could this even have happened?! Sammy Jo’s hands trembled with disbelief as he searched for Matthew’s number. He wanted answers, and he wanted them fast.“Good e
CHAPTER 62
Sammy Jo could not believe his ears. The disrespect and the utter audacity to throw a wrench into his plans. For a second, Sammy Jo was tempted to do away with Matthew and deal with him. But he knew that he’d need him for future plans and strategies.“What did you just say to me?” He asked slowly.Matthew chuckled, “Look, I understand that you’re used to wielding power with an iron fist and having people wait on you hand and foot. But I’m not one of your underlings. Compared to this guy, you’re really not all that.”Sammy Jo was speechless for a moment. He tried to gather his thoughts and words together. Something like this had happened before. A strange, inconvenient event rendering him completely powerless, putting him in a position of mockery. The dots were connecting in his head.“Jared.” Sammy Jo blurted his name abruptly.“What?!” Matthew asked. He could feel his heart doing backflips in his chest.“This managing director… is he affiliated with Jared by any chance. The loser I t
CHAPTER 63
Becky walked into the lecture theatre, the smile on her face a souvenir from the previous night. She walked quietly to where Brad was seated, equally as happy as she was but excited about something completely different. He was drumming his pen on his knees and nodding his head, something he did when he was looking forward to something.“What are you so excited about?” Becky giggled.“Nuh-uh.” Brad shook his head, a mischievous smile making its way to his face. “How did last night go? Spill.”Becky's face reddened a little. She toyed with her hair as she considered what answer to give, “It was a pleasant evening. Nothing much.”“Beckyyyy.” Brad whined. Becky giggled, her face reddening all the more.“Alright, Alright. It was amazing. I think Jared is beginning to understand what I've been trying to point out to him… in bits of course but he's making the effort. That's really cool.”Brad beamed at her, his smile was big and eager like the sun on a fresh Monday. “Congratulations to you.”
CHAPTER 64
Brad Trodman stood just inside the revolving doors of Skyrun Inc., momentarily still, as though the building itself required a second of reverence before entry. The lobby stretched wide and immaculate, all glass panels, marble floors, and muted corporate colors that whispered money rather than screamed it. It smelled faintly of polished wood and freshly brewed coffee—controlled, expensive, efficient. This was it.His grip tightened around the slim leather folder tucked under his arm. Inside were his offer letter, onboarding documents, and a neatly printed résumé he’d revised more times than he could count. For the first time since he’d received the internship confirmation, Brad felt something close to calm. Not excitement—not yet—but the steady grounding that came from knowing he had earned his place here.A woman at the reception desk looked up and smiled professionally.“Good morning. May I help you?”“Yes—hi.” Brad cleared his throat. “Brad Trodman. New intern. Today’s my first day
CHAPTER 65
Brad Trodman stared down at the folder on his desk, a sense of both determination and trepidation coiling in his chest. The five department reports sprawled before him like a complex puzzle that someone had deliberately made slightly unreadable, just to see how he would react. Numbers, charts, and fragmented memos jumped at him from every page. Skyrun Inc. was not just polished and intimidating on the surface—it was demanding, meticulous, and exacting, and Brad could feel that the building itself seemed to challenge him, daring him to fail.He exhaled slowly and opened the first report. The instructions were clear: summarize each department’s data, flag discrepancies, and make recommendations. But there was a catch—an obvious one to anyone who had dealt with high-level corporate operations. The reports had been prepared by different teams with varying styles, some vague, some overly detailed. Some were missing information. And there were subtle, almost invisible inconsistencies that,

“There’s something going on.” Brad twirled his straw around, unable to bring himself to drink the caramel fudge sludge. It was his favourite flavor on the menu but his stomach was in knots. His first day at work had wrecked him.Becky sighed, “After all the drama we went through to get the job in the first place, there’s still something going on?”“Yeah…” Brad said, his eyes still fixed on his drink, “You know… Matthew Tyrin is my supervisor.”Steadily, the pieces began to click together in Becky’s mind. Her shoulders slacked as she took another sip of her vanilla swirl.“They’re conniving. Seriously? They do realize they’re not on LAU turf, right?”Brad rolled his eyes, blowing some hair out of his face, “I think that’s what is giving them so much confidence. They aren’t on LAU turf. The school rules don’t apply. They can practically do whatever they want.”“That’s awful. I’m sorry Brad.”Brad shrugged casually, finally ready to take a sip of his beverage. “It’s cool, Becky, really.
CHAPTER 67
Brad sat at his desk the next day, playing with his thumbs as he awaited Matthew’s feedback. He find it quite amusing that he was required to submit a task that large in eight hours but it had taken Matthew nearly twenty hours to review it. Nonetheless, he couldn’t complain. The corporate world was brutal, it was something his father had always warned him about. Sammy Jo whistled mockingly as he strutted into the office, his eyes on his phone. He made his way into his own cubicle, surprisingly keeping to himself. Brad was anything but relieved. He knew Sammy Jo was only this relaxed because Matthew had something bigger up his sleeve.Speak of the devil.Matthew walked in, his face contorted with what Brad knew to be rage. “Can I have all the interns in the main office space right this instant?” He demanded sharply. “Yes, all interns, drop whatever it if you’re doing and make your way to the space at once.”All the interns rushed in and took their seats. Matthew waited for every sing
CHAPTER 68
Shelley had just walked into her room when her phone began to ring. She cursed bitterly but quickly shot a nice, bright look at Jared who was walking in warily behind her.“Sit, sit, and make yourself comfortable.” She smiled, “I might be gone for about thirty minutes.”Jared sighed and slowly made his way to her study chair in the corner. He knew that Shelley didn’t live alone and was grateful that her shadowy minions would not be harassing him today.Shelley stepped out of the room and unlocked the next door which led into her study. It was sound proof so she knew she could have private conversations without revealing anything to Jared.“Are you out of your mind?” Shelley hissed, “Calling me at this hour?”“Why exactly are you in such a bad mood?”“Because Jared is here you, dolt.” Shelley snapped.“Oh.” Matthew replied, a small smile on his face. “That’s wonderful, then. You remember the plan?”“Yes.” Shelley replied, her eyes on her nails, “but I’m Shelley. I do whatever I want ho
CHAPTER 69
Brad quietly typed out the report that Matthew had asked him to work on. He was nearly done when he felt a hand tap the back of his head. He looked over his shoulder and scowled. Of course, it was Sammy Jo. Sammy Jo raised two middle fingers at Brad before walking back to his seat. Brad turned his eyes to his laptop. While he was looking through his document, a fellowintern tapped his shoulder and handed him a paper. He read it and resisted the urge to groan out loud.“I need a cup of coffee from the nearest Starbucks – Matthew Tyrin.”Brad took in a deep breath. He didn’t know who was watching him so he knew he couldn’t roll his eyes or display any attitude. He quietly made his way out of the intern’s office space and out into the reception. The nearest Starbucks was at least twenty minutes away and that bastard knew it.He had just stepped out of the doors of Sky run Inc. when his phone began to ring. He got a bit puzzled and frightened when he saw Becky’s name light up on his scree
CHAPTER 70
Brad rushed back into the office, sweaty, exhausted and holding a lukewarm cup of coffee. The office was oddly quiet when he walked in and he could already tell that trouble was looming. When he met the interns silently seated at their cubicles and listening to a loud, booming voice, he stiffened.Muttering quiet prayers, he slipped into his cubicle. But unfortunately, he had already been noticed.“Excuse me, young man.” The man said. Brad looked up immediately.“Does this look like a public park to you? You think you can just waltz in and out however you please?”Brad shook his head hurriedly, “No sir. I deeply apologize sir.”The man eyed him down and sneered at him, “What’s your name?”“Brad.” Brad replied, “Brad Todman, sir.”“There was a meeting slated for twelve pm. What excuse do you have for being late?”“I wasn’t aware there was a meeting sir?” Brad replied briskly.“You weren’t aware?” His reply seemed to only piss the manager off even more. “Where were you thirty minutes ag
