CHAPTER 11
Author's POV Rune knew he had to do something. They couldn't keep fighting like this. He could sense it in the air - a sort of joy as if whatever was feeding on the chaos that existed in the room. “Everyone stop it!" He cried out. They all turned to look at him, their eyes wide, noses flaring. Kaladin was against the wall, his hands on his waist. Zayan was staring into a blank space, breathing hard. Eillish was silent, just as she always was. “We can't keep fighting like this. It doesn't help in any way or manner. Don't you guys get that?" He raised his voice a little. He wasn't going to be gentle anymore. “That's not why we are here and if any of this is to work, then this isn't it" It was Wilder who agreed with him, "He's right guys. We can't keep fighting if we can help it. It doesn't help, I mean look around.” he had been in his head for a while, but he had observed the slight tilt in the air. He could feel the eyes watching. But they all did as he said, the torches flickered
CHAPTER 12
Aeris’s POVI could feel my insides burning, as if something was eating me up from the inside out. So many years had gone by and I had endured for as long as I could. Now that they were here, there was hope before I died. In a few hours, I would go see them again and learn of the decision made. I had decided not to check the cameras or monitor them. They had to learn to survive entirely on their own. They couldn't work together if they killed each other. My hands went to the cup just to the side. I drowned the medicine like it was wine, ignoring the bitter taste that lingered in my mouth. This was what I had to pay for my mistake all those years ago and for a little longer. Somehow, I had managed to avoid the television for a while. I didn't want to see what was happening in the outside world but that was dangerous. I had to keep up with it. I picked up the remote and turned the television on. At first it was just as ad until suddenly the screen turned red and boldly written on th
CHAPTER 13
Rune’s POVWe all looked towards the door, watching him walk inside. He didn't stare for long, didn't say anything about the tension that filled the air but we could see he knew. It was in the way his eyes glanced around carefully before they fell on me.I looked away quickly, not sure why but I couldn't look at him for too long. My little spat with Zayan had left me feeling weird. Since the argument, none of us had spoken much. Eilish and I had sat in silence, so had everyone else.He cleared his throat and spoke, “It is time"It was as if his words had sent electricity through me, a small thrill shook my body. My spine straightened as if his words had been an order and suddenly all my senses were alert. I could feel the small tingles in my hands, the awareness that I felt. The shadows that had been still suddenly felt different, as if something there was watching us and his words had woken them up as well.I looked around, Eilish looked alert unlike how quiet she had been. Her eyes
CHAPTER 14
Author's POV Aeris stared at everyone, besides Rune. He had known the kid would be the easiest to convince, but the others weren't so sure. He looked at Zayan, who was bristling with anger. The boy would be the most difficult to control in the group. He looked at Kaladin, who looked like he was deep in his thoughts, as if he wasn't in the sanctum anymore. And then Wilder, who sat further from the group with blank eyes that looked far away. Aeris felt worry shoot through him. He was too quiet. He was worried that the boy was retreating into himself. Maybe his powers were taking complete control of him. And that was dangerous, to everyone else and himself. He decided he would come back to him. Instead, his eyes drifted over to Eilish. The girl looked just as thoughtful, she didn't have any idea about the power she held. It still looked like a dream to her, and he couldn't blame her. He knew he would have to be patient with her. Kaladin stared at Aeris. He was staring at the older m
CHAPTER 15
Author's PovAeris led them down the dim hallway, they didn't look at each other. It would feel like sacrilege to break the silence. Their shoes hitting the hard concrete was the only sound that travelled with them. He stopped in front of the first door. It was a red wooden door; the power of it was hidden behind its plain looks. But he knew exactly what it was for - this very reason. He turned to Zayan, “This is your room," he pointed and waited for the boy to open it. Zayan stared at Aeris and then the door weirdly. He could sense that everything wasn't just perfect but he didn't know what it was. He raised a brow, “What is it hiding?" He asked. Aeris smiled. The boy was smart despite his arrogance and refusal to listen to authority. “See for yourself" Zayan humphed and pushed the door open but it didn't budge. He didn't miss the surge of power when he had pushed - it had been too hard. So it surprised him even more that the door didn't move; it should have. He looked at Aeris.
CHAPTER 16
Author's PovZayan knew he should have been grateful. It didn't seem like life above would be any better, but he didn't feel any gratitude. The ache to be anywhere else was strong; these people were nothing like him. He wasn't even sure how he would get along with them. His hands pushed into his hair as he thought. His eyes had been on the clock by the side of the bed. Aeris had given them ten minutes to get ready and be out for dinner. Zayan didn't feel excited at the thought although he was wrong. His hands itched with the urge to hit something. He wanted desperately to get rid of the anger that had built up in him. Suddenly he wasn't sure what he was doing anymore. This seemed so much like a mistake. What was he doing fighting against a power that he didn't know of? One he had seen its destruction, even felt it. Even though he could feel it, the eyes were watching him. It wasn't just one, but he couldn't count how many either. He wanted to do something other than sit here and w
CHAPTER 17
Author’s POVDinner went by quietly, other than the sounds of cutlery and shuffling seats, nobody said a word. Rune didn't look at the walls anymore and neither did Wilder. Zayan had found the seat furthest from everyone and stayed there. While they ate, Aeris observed each of them. He saw how Rune tried to keep a facade of boldness. How Zayan stayed detached from everyone. His concern lay with Wilder who was too withdrawn, he was worried that the boy's powers were too overwhelming. He knew he would have to focus on that.Eilish was the most quiet but not withdrawn. He could see the girl observing everyone like he was. Her eyes lingered too long on Rune but he didn't want to think about it. The situation was too dire to even imagine the thought lingered in her mind.He also mentally prepared himself. He remembered how he had tried to prepare for the day himself, how it hadn't worked out. He would make sure he didn't make this mistake here again. He would guide them properly, they woul
CHAPTER 18
Author's POV They all stared at the tires in front of them, unsure of what was about to happen. It didn't pass them by - the different sizes of the tires. It was as if each had been given to them for a purpose. Wilder's tire was the smallest and Zayan’s the largest. Aeris cleared his throat after a moment of watching them. He wanted to make sure they were doing the first thing - be curious. “This tire is part of the first set of what I call control. You're going to move with the will of your mind." Everyone raised a brow, staring at him in question. “I don't understand," Zayan said loudly, not caring that the others were trying to do that. Aeris nodded, he didn't expect them to. “Well, you're about to. I'll explain it to you as best as I can," he moved an inch closer, “These tires represent your powers, I want you to lift these tires up and hold them in the air," he said. There was still a question in his eyes, but Rune asked instead, “How does this have anything to do with contr
CHAPTER 19
Author's POV They faced each other, Zayan towards Kaladin while Eilish was towards Rune, Wilder faced all four. Zayan's face had changed into a hard and strict one. He was ready to prove that he was so much better than they could ever be. Aeris could sense the mix of tension and hostility in the air. He took a deep breath, trying not to hold himself back from coughing. They couldn't know he was weak. He knew how badly they would take advantage of that fact. Instead he watched them, seeing which would realize that they couldn't do it. None of them knew that part of the training was being able to know when not to attack. He wanted to push Zayan out because he knew the boy wouldn't think like that, but decided against it. He didn't want any more feelings of being singled out. Zayan lifted his tire, bringing it back to him just as the others did as well. Once it was in front of him, he met Kaladin's eyes. He went back to his mind, the tire was in his hands, he would pretend to throw i
CHAPTER 20
Rune's POVI felt it call towards me, as if a part of me was there. It drew me closer to it - the brightest room. So when Aeris spoke and said, “That is your training space, for just you anyway" it didn't really surprise me. I simply nodded and went in closer to it. The place was built in such a way that when I went in, it differed from everywhere else. Inside the small square, I looked out into the training room to notice that it was a little different. The colors from inside it were a strong contrast to everything outside. Aeris spoke again, “You're supposed to master your power well enough to be able to hide your space whenever the time comes, so that nobody from outside can see you" he explained. He gestured to the structure. The news fascinated me. It was nothing that I had never seen before. Even the way the space seemed to calm me. I didn't feel the familiar draw and tug of my powers. I didn't feel the drain that it sometimes caused. The others went to their spaces as it w
