Chapter 11 - Preparing the Last Bastion
The tick-tock sound of the digital holographic clock floating in the center of the room felt like a sledgehammer pounding Marsel’s nerves one strike at a time.[BETA WAVE COUNTDOWN: 06:14:22]Six hours left. Just six hours before five hundred organized monsters would flatten Supermarket A-117 into the ground.“Damn,” Marsel muttered, his eyes red and burning from staring at the System’s shopping interface for too long. “Everything’s more expensive right before a war. Does this System use surge pricing like ride-hailing apps when it rains or what?”He stood in front of the virtual display labeled [Fortress Shop]. The XP he’d painstakingly collected from slaughtering Scavengers and Berserkers yesterday totaled 1,250 points. A decent amount under normal circumstances, but it felt like pocket change when facing the apocalypse.“Mas,” Nana called from the medicine aisle. She was sitting cross-legged on the floor, surrounded by alcohol bottles, bandages, and light-blue mana potions she’d br
Chapter 12 - The Beta Wave (Part II)- Mr. Budi’s Accurate Error
The main aisle of Supermarket A-117 immediately turned into a scene of acoustic horror. As the Ekorupt tide surged into the parking lot, Marsel immediately pressed the green crystal button on the cashier console, activating his reliable 800 XP weapon: [ACOUSTIC NOISE DEFENSE (SONIC BARRIER)]. Ultra-high sound waves burst from the black horn, striking the Horde's front line. Dozens of Ekorupt Drones that hunt with acute hearing immediately collapsed. A shrill, piercing hiss sounded behind the roar of the Beta Unit. Some Level 1 Drones and the smaller Wolf Ekorupts flinched, their internal organs feeling as if they were being ripped apart by the perfectly tuned sound frequency Tyrex had set. [System Log: Sonic Barrier Effective. 12 Ekorupt Drone Level 1 Terminated. Energy Consumed: 10/dt.] “Hold, Rex! Guard! Don’t let them cross the threshold!” Marsel shouted from his cashier desk. Tyrex was an incredible sight of brutality and loyalty. With twin shopping baskets integrated into
Chapter 13 - The Destruction of Unit Beta
The water pooling on the warehouse floor felt cold and dreadful, a bitter reminder of Mr. Budi's ridiculous luck. Although Unit Beta had retreated, Marsel felt no relief whatsoever. Boss-level monsters never 'surrender.'Marsel checked his severely damaged holographic display in the cooling logistics status section. [UNIT BETA SHOCK LEVEL] was now only [LOW]. The unit had only been stunned, not killed."He's coming back," Marsel hissed, walking quickly toward the ice cream racks. He tore open the cardboard boxes, recalling Tyrex. "We need water defense again, or Tyrex.""No water, Boss! The drainage system needs 72 hours to recharge! Unless you want me to pee on them?" Tyrex retorted, his hand resting on his makeshift spear-sword, his breath still ragged."No. He won't attack the same logistics route. He's going for the heart. The Fortress Core," Marsel looked up. On the corrugated iron roof of A-117, he had installed all the vital defense mechanisms. If that broke, it was game over.
Chapter 14 - After the Storm and the Promise of Expansion
The coppery stench of the burned Beta Unit mingled with the scent of powdered detergent wafting from the modified trolley. Morning had arrived. The rain had subsided, leaving a cloudy sky. Outside, the parking lot was covered in ash and the scorched remains of the Ekorupt, a sight Marsel would remember as the symbol of a costly victory.Marsel stood on the roof, shivering, not just from the damp morning wind but because the Fortress Energy had been completely depleted. He felt the coldness of the Origin Codex Fragment in his pocket, his only source of morale.Below him, Nana and Tyrex worked in silence. Tyrex, though severely wounded and now heavily bandaged around the hip where Beta had bitten him, loyally cut the System wires left behind by the Beta Unit, preventing the Fortress Core from incurring a corrupt charge. Nana cleaned every System node on the roof while also repairing Tyrex's Basket Armor with salvaged materials. There were no silly jokes from Tyrex, and none of Nana's us
Chapter 15 - Journey Outside the Safe Zone
The rear receiving garage door of the A-117 Supermarket, a steel rolling door repainted with the all-electric blue logo of Marsel’s Fortress, opened for the first time since the LitRPG apocalypse struck. The scent of the outside air, damp and cold after the overnight rain, immediately rushed into the room. The supermarket’s front glass wall, which had been their battlefield yesterday, was still covered in dust, dirty water, and Ekorupt remnants. Parked in front was an absurd sight: the System-Modified Logistics Trailer Truck (Rhino Type Mobile Fortress). It had once been a 40-foot container truck automatically controlled by A-117 for seasonal stock deliveries. Now, the truck was reinforced with emergency armor plating made from Level 3 gondola shelving, protected by Kevlar-coated all-terrain tires, the result of Pak Budi’s 'emergency shopping spree', and powered by a System V12 engine fully charged with raw Mana Crystals.“This isn’t going to look weird on the road, is it?” asked Tyre
Chapter 16 - The Shadow Queen's Frequency
Marsel spent the rest of the night in critical analysis mode, momentarily forgetting about XP and structural losses. They stopped the Mobile Fortress beneath a collapsed multi-story parking structure, a location deemed sufficiently stable. Tyrex stood guard with the Knight Basket, which now featured several metal reinforcements salvaged from the pilings he had destroyed that afternoon. "His body was frozen. His eyes were black," Marsel whispered to Nana in the truck's control room. Nana, after administering the best possible first aid to Marsel and Tyrex, observed the body of the elderly survivor who had collapsed after uttering "Shadow Queen." "He didn't die from an Ecorrupt, Marsel. His internal organ systems are fine, but there are indications of massive neural failure. The System in his brain overheated, a kind of cognitive short circuit." "That's the effect of the Siren frequency," Marsel said. He had converted the truck's motion detectors and all
Chapter 20 - Artifact Analysis and the Return of Lucky Mr. Budi
Marsel and the core team spent the rest of the night inside the Rhino Truck. Marsel concentrated on upgrading his personal Firewall System to protect himself from future telepathic attacks by the Shadow Queen. Tyrex and Nana were already fast asleep; the trauma of the mental and physical battle had taken its toll.As dawn broke, Marsel returned to Supermarket A-117. This was a purely logistical necessity; the Mobile Fortress needed to be resynchronized with the main Fortress Core and recharged.Marsel summoned Mr. Budi to receive the Artifact he had brought, a Small Relic crystal.“Here. Analyze its data structure,” Marsel said, tossing the Small Relic to Mr. Budi, who was currently wearing a self-made safety vest emblazoned with 'CORE FINANCE'.“A d-dirty System fragment?” Mr. Budi swallowed, looking at the softly glowing crystal. He was traumatized by the Beta Unit’s Large Core.“This contains the navigation path that the Eternal Palace
Chapter 18 - The Betrayal of the Old City
The group successfully escaped the frozen system trap at the Quarantine office, utilizing Tyrex's expertise in shattering ice layers with his physical strength. Now, they were speeding along again in the Mobile Fortress. Marsel targeted an area he called Monitoring Post 1-Zulu, a hotspot that had once served as a refugee center.Inside the Rhino, the silence was heavy. The psychic attacks from the Siren and the intelligent Ekorupt confrontations were starting to erode their morale, especially Nana's.Suddenly, Marsel received a message from an old satellite monitoring connection he had managed to restore.[WARNING: LOCAL EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION RECEIVED FROM POST ZULU. STATUS: SECURITY BREACHED.]The message was fragmented, but enough to make Marsel move quickly. "Post Zulu is under attack. It’s the last independent human post in this area. The Genetic Relic target is there."They arrived.Marsel parked the Rhino Truck behind the
Chapter 17 - The Quarantine City and the Specialist Ekorupt
The Rhino truck crept into the Old Quarantine Zone, a strictly coordinated area on the city outskirts during the initial phase of the apocalypse. Now completely abandoned, it served as a gathering place for System mutants. The atmosphere here was heavy, unlike the sterile emptiness of the Supermarket. Every building bore the Quarantine logo: a red-crossed human silhouette that had been systematically scratched out and replaced by biological wiring.Marsel cut the engine and activated the stealth defense system. The Mobile Fortress slowly shimmered out of sight, enveloped in a layer of System Corrupt camouflage that Marsel had created using Origin Codex Fragments."Tyrex, secure the perimeter. Nana, you stay within a hundred-meter radius of me," Marsel ordered.Tyrex adjusted his neck guard. "Got it, Boss! There's plenty of scrap metal here I can grab for extra armor, right?""Don't touch anything without a System Scan, Rex. The Siren sign
Chapter 19 - The Trace of Telepathy and Controlled Madness
Back at the Mobile Fortress, Nana secluded herself in the medical compartment. She was repairing her mana potions, not for Tyrex, but for herself, struggling to calm her corrupted Healing System after the cultist's final touch at Zulu Post.Tyrex strictly guarded the Rhino Truck's perimeter, his loyalty to Marsel slightly distorted after the order to 'just watch' the medic being attacked. He sensed a small moral fracture that he had to ignore.Marsel knew this. And this was the time to take the most selfish and most strategic step a Manager could take.He needed to face The Siren alone.Marsel descended from the Rhino Truck into the night environment shrouded in thick fog and moved toward the outer limits of the Quarantine Zone, where he had detected a high-frequency concentration back in Chapter 15.“Tyrex, if I don't return in two hours, activate the Automated Defense. Guard Nana,” Marsel said, putting on a thin, modified System Jacket.
