11. Blackmail
Over one week passed with Bradley still in solitary, it became a wonder to him as to why they haven’t sent him back to general pop just like the other times, but he managed to utilize the moment with continued training in the small space. Despite the advantages that came with segregation, disadvantages also followed because there was just so much task the system could assign to him.[Quest Activated: Leave segregation][Objective: Make the guard to take you back to general pop][Reward: Charisma +1, + 100 XP]Almost immediately, a guard came down the corridor, opened the slot and dropped a tray containing Bradley’s meal.“Eat up, Turner.” “Wait….” Bradley grabbed the guard’s wrist before he could pull it out, but the guard was stronger and the grip was not firm.“What the hell, Turner!” the guard raised his voice, “You’ve been here for days, still haven’t learnt a dime.” He closes the slot back at once.“Please don’t leave. I only wanted to know when I’ll be going back to generally

On the morning of Isaac’s hearing, both Isaac and Bradley sat on their usual spot as they watched some other inmates play the basketball. Isaac was very nervous, any moment now he would be summoned by the guards and would leave Rikers Island for the first time in months.“Any final advice towards my hearing?” Isaac asked, his heart pounding hard against his ribcage.Bradley looked at him, he could understand the tension Isaac was feeling at moment.“If this goes, I could lose my chance of ever returning to politics, or even leaving this god damn place.” Isaac swallowed as he sight two guards approach the yard gate. “Breathe friend, everything will work in your favor. I’m sure the justice system is still effective and would do the right thing.” Bradley said to encourage Isaac, but they both knew that was not entirely true. If the justice system was without compromise, they both would not even find themselves in there in the first place.“Jones, you’re up.” A guard called out from the

The next few days passed by with the rigid routine of Rikers prison. But Isaac was able to send a kite as usual to his sources on the outside with instructions to look into the judge just as Bradley had advice and soon words reached him through his lawyer that his haunch was correct. The judge presiding over his case had been on payroll of his opponents for a long time, even before his case went public. It was discovered that the plan to put Isaac behind bars was way older than he thought it to be.Even the so-called surgery which the judge was meant to have was also a fuss. He had no medical condition that required surgery nor was there any reason to delay the next hearing proceedings. The conspiracy ran deep. Deeper than any could imagine. But everything was beginning to come to light. The judge had gone AWOL the moment he noticed Isaac was unto him. and the next hear pushed forward with a new, uncompromised Judge to preside over the matter.Isaac rushed to Bradley’s dorm with ex

As the days went by, Bradley kept pushing to get Nick to be highlighted green by the system. But with each attempt, it seem he was pushing Nick further away, as nothing he said or did could get Nick to believe in Isaac and that he was different from the politicians that put him jail. The day of Isaac's second hearing had just concluded. He'd won and his case has been dismissed by the court.Returning to Rikers Island was to collect whatever belongings of his they had and to say farewell to the friends he'd made in prison.“I can't thank you enough, Bradley. You've been a great help to me. I still wonder how you do it.” Isaac said to Bradley. They were both seated on the lower bunk in Isaac's dorm after dinner. Just a couple of hours before supper.“I guess you will be returning to office then?” Bradley asked. It was very important to him that Isaac returns to office else he would not be able to pull the strings required to get him leased from prison.“Definitely.” Isaac asked with ent
15. Under the radar
The Warden's office was of standard size, a moderately sized desk directly facing the entrance with the Warden seated on the other side. Two chairs were facing him. On the desk stood a monitor facing the Warden's seat; only he could see what was on it, but anyone could clearly conclude that he was watching the security footage. A shelf stood by the corner. The Warden was a mid sixties, sizeable man. The way he carried himself could tell that he was no nonsense man. But there were also attributes that gave him up to be someone who had done some unlawful things to get to that position. After Bradley was escorted into the office by two correction officers, a nod from the Warden sent the guards away.“Bradley Turner.” The Warden said, his voice sounded cold, even his eyes carried elements of hate and awe. “You've caused a lot of harm since your arrival as well as good. I must give you that.”He paused, eyes still fixed on Bradley. It was clear he wanted Bradley to say something, but just
16. Maya's plight
In the Upper East Side of Manhattan, life went nearly as usual for the Jordans. They had moved past the conflict with Bradley, and the media had cooled off a bit. After all, it's been over six months already, and with each break of dawn came new stories. The name Bradley Turner had not crossed the lips of any member of the house. Even Maya was compelled not to make mention of her father again.Evelyn was moving on already as planned. Six months was long enough for her to engage in a romantic relationship with Lucas, as if the feeling were just developing. When Maya had caught her kissing Lucas’ goodbye one evening from her room windows and asked if Lucas was going to be her new dad.Evelyn didn't have the courtesy to lie, even for the child's sakes who would see it in a whole different light. She went on to convince Maya that it was important that she remarries as soon as possible. Claiming that being with Lucas was going to help her move on, and that Lucas would take good care of her
17. Just following orders
After the party and guests had all gone, including Evelyn who left with Lucas Stevens, Maya was forced to stay up late and ensure the hall was clean. Even the maids were asked to take a rest because they were serving the guests during the party hours. Maya alone was left to do the dishes, sweep and mop the entire hall and surroundings which were disorganised as a result of the engagement party. Since it was not a school night, Victoria and Leo didn't care. So Maya was up all night.By 7 a.m. she completed the cleaning and retired to her room to take a nap.Not up to thirty minutes, Leo came banging on the door, broke the lock and stormed in, causing Maya to panic as she jumped from the bed out of fright, like someone who had a nightmare. Only that she didn't have to get a nightmare to look that way because her life was already a living nightmare.“You lazy brat! What are you still doing in bed?! Who's going to help set the table for breakfast? Or help the maids in the kitchen and in

The SUV drove into an estate on the west side of Queens. The mansion was well positioned on the compound, there was no doubt that this was the residence of a wealthy man. someone of high standing in the borough. As the car parked in the garage, the guys in front came out first and the passenger guy opened the car door for Bradley to step out of the vehicle too. The respect he was receiving from those guys was maximum. The kind that he never thought he'd receive in his entire life. Especially not after what had to go through in the hands of the Jordans."We are here, Mr Turner."Bradley didn't take another step, he definitely needed directions and there was no doubt those guys were going to give it to him.He kept admiring the beauty of the whole vicinity, to the point that his attention had to be called back to reality by his escort."This way, Mr Turner." the man said again as he led the way. From the garage the mini parlour of the mansion was clear beauty. At this point, Bradley w
19. Uncle Marcus
Bradley’s first morning as freeman came with the latest news related to the Jordans. Evelyn was already engaged to Lucas Stevens, another assemblyman who had eyes for the state senate. It was after he turned on the news and saw this that he realised why Alex Lynch was shocked to hear that he had a child with Evelyn already. This information made his desire to reunite with Maya even more, because it was now clear that Evelyn didn't care for the child's feelings and how her remarrying would after the girl. She was only after her own goal and nothing else. Also from his observations of Lucas and how he carried himself in the video footage of news and other footage which Bradley had to instantly browse concerning him, he didn't appear to be someone who would give any concern to a child not related to him.He appeared very ambitious, caring only for his personal gain and that of the people closest to his heart, of which from Bradley's investigations, Evelyn was one of them that their so-c

He made sure Maya had the best of her day, causing her to forget every of her torment. For the first time since she lost her father, she lived. No thoughts of the horror she has always endured. By 4 o'clock, Marcus decided to take her home, even though he knew very well the Jordans wouldn't care whether she returned home or not. He still had to abide by the law. Upon getting to the entrance gate into the Jordans estate, he bumped into Leo, who also happened to be returning from a business meeting. Their cars didn't collide, but Leo being Leo had to create a scene like always. He hopped out of his Benz and started cursing. Since Marcus' car wasn't as costly as that of their regular guest he knew he could easily step on the driver's nerves without any repercussions."You fool! Are you blind? Can't y
