Chapter Fifty One
Jiyeon packed quickly, throwing clothes and her laptop in a duffel bag. Her apartment was still a crime scene but she'd been allowed to grab a few essentials. “You can stay with me as long as you need,” her friend, Minji had said, waiting by the door. “Just until the article drops,” Jiyeon said zipping up her bag. “Are you sure you want to go through with this?” Minji asked. “They tried to kidnap you, you know? And if those two that helped you yesterday weren't there, maybe they would have done worse.” “Which means I can't stop now,” Jiyeon said. She took one last look at her apartment and turned around. “Let's go,” she said. Minji’s apartment was across town, it was small but had security cameras and a doorman. Jiyeon felt slightly safer there but still double checked the locks on the door. She spent the next few days working remotely, finalizing the article and compiling evidence. Jiyeon barely left Jiyeon's apartment, though she still felt traumatized from the incident,

Three performances later, it was time for Team B18 to perform, Choi Hangyul's team. It seemed their theme was Bachata, the lights on stage changed to red and orange. Choi Hangyul stood center stage with his team flanking hum, then the music started. The choreography was smooth and sensual, full of bogy rolls and hip movements. Hangyul was amazing, every movement was performed sensually and his facial expressions conveyed exactly the right amount of intensity without being over the top. A partner spin, a dip, then a slow drag across the stage. The audience was eating it up. “Wow,” Dongpyo breathed. “They're really good,” I admitted. Their performance ended with all six members making a perfectly synchronized dramatic dip, holding the pose as the music stopped. I looked at the judges, they were smiling and nodding, looking extremely pleased. I checked the live chat. LIVE CHAT: @juin: DAMN!!! That performance was FIRE @yuil: I felt the sexual tension from here @erth: I think

I looked up from my phone and found Seung Woo standing a few feet away, staring at his own screen. The colour had completely drained from his face and bus hands were shaking. “Ireum-ssi.” I looked up to see a staff member approaching, her expression tight. “You and your team need to wait here, please don't go anywhere.” “What's happening?” Peniel asked. The staff member didn't answer, she was already walking away, speaking into her headset. Around us, chaos was erupting. Staff members were rushing everywhere, talking into their phones or headsets. I could pick up fragments of their conversation. “...we need to make a statement…” “...shut down the live stream…” “...what should we do?...” Dongpyo was staring at his phone, his face pale. “This can't possibly be real.” Jaein leaned over and looked at his twin’s phone. His mouth fell open. “Seung Woo…he killed someone?” “He drove someone to suicide,” Peniel corrected. I kept quiet, watching their reactions. Dongpyo looked li

The Assistant’s Pov… My name is Fyu Soyeon, and I am the executive assistant to Director Ryu, the woman sitting at the table. I was also close friends with Im Jiyeon. When Jiyeon told me about the Jungeon Tremin's case, I’d been horrified. When's she’d nearly been kidnapped investigating it, I'd been furious. And when i’d been assigned to take notes in this emergency meeting with Choi Seung Woo, I'd known exactly what to do. I’d recorded everything. His confession, his complete lack of remorese, and his vile disgusting words about that poor boy. “And so what?” “That fucker kept getting on my nerves. No matter what I did to him, he never begged me to stop. Even when I forced him to eat my shit, he was so stubborn, well, he killed himself in the end after all.” I uploaded the video to T*****r. @parksy_im: Choi Seung Woo's confession. Recorded 10 minutes ago at ORIONX. #Justice for Jungeon# And within seconds, it had started spreading. “You’re fired!” Seung Woo was screaming at

Paramedics rushed in to attend to Hae-jin, who was still unconscious on the floor. Mr. Feng stood to the side, watching officers spread through the house, opening drawers, searching rooms, photographing documents. His phone, a message from Attorney Liem: On my way to the Station. Tell Mr. Choi to say nothing until I arrive. Mr. Feng looked at the message, then at the chaos around him. The empire was crumbling. He needed to get away fast, or he’ll be implicated too but before he could even go anywhere, he was apprehended. Meanwhile, major news outlets had carried the news that Mr. Choi and his secretary had been arrested, with the news of his wife collapsing. The public were watching with scrutinizing eyes and there was no way Mr. Choi could avoid what was coming for him. The Choi family's reign was over. ………………………………………………… Seoul's Metropolitan Police Station - Interrogation Room A Seung Woo sat across from two detectives, his hands cuffed to the table. His lawyer, Attorney

Detective Rin and Detective Minseol stood in the observation area, watching through the one way glass. “He's starting to crack,” Detective Rin observed. “Good,” Detective Minseol said. “He’s been untouchable for so long, he doesn't know how to actually handle consequences.” Inside the room, they could see Attorney Lien speaking urgently to Jin Wook, who was shaking his head repeatedly. “How solid is the case?” Detective Rin asked. “Extremely,” Detective Minseol said. “The obstruction of justice charges are airtight, we have multiple witnesses, documents, paper trails. The only question is how much time he’ll actually serve.” “With a lawyer like Attorney Lien?” “Even Attorney Lien can't work miracles with this much evidence,” Detective Minseol said. “The best he can do is negotiate a plea deal. Reduced sentences in exchange for cooperation.” “Will Choi Jin Wook take a deal?” Detective Minseol watched the man through the glass, still sitting in a perfect posture but his hands w

Jungeon Dae-jung walked down the hallway, he carried a tablet in his hands, the news of Choi Jin Wook and Choi Seung Woo's arrest showing on the screen. He’d been coming here everyday for the past three years since his wife completely broke down when she realised they couldn't do anything to help their son. The doctors called it a severe depressive episode with psychotic features. She'd stop eating, sleeping and speaking. She also hated him for backing down so easily and had become extremely suicidal. He reached her room and knocked softly before entering. Jungeon Mi-hee sat at the window, staring out at nothing. She was thinner than she used to be, and her beautiful black hair had streaks of gray. “Mi-hee,” Dae-jung said gently, sitting in the chair beside her. She didn't respond. “I have something to show you,” he continued. “It's about our baby boy, Tremin.” At their son’s name, her eyes flickered slightly. Dae-jung held up the tablet. “The people responsible for

I started looking around for Nal Taeyang, he was the only one I'd met before, though it was just a passing encounter. And finally, I spotted him. “There,” I said to Dahyun, pointing at a tall guy close to the windows, then we walked over. “Hi,” I said, smiling politely. He turned then looked at me. “Ah, Seo Ireum right?” “Yes,” I responded. “And you're Nal Taeyang right? We're on the same team.” “Well then, it's nice to meet you again, and this is?” “Lee Dahyun,” I said. “Pleasure,” he said, stretching out his hand to Dahyun. “Same,” Dahyun said a bit more quietly. It seemed as though Dahyun was only active when he was with me. “Have you seen the others? Or do you know them at least?” I asked. “I just know one, Hong Hyunmin, he’s with his friends over there,” Taeyang pointed. “I don't know the other two.” “Then let's go say hi,” I said. Hong Hyunmin was extremely energetic, talking rapidly with his friends, laughing loudly. When we approached, he turned with a

Taeyang went first, he was really good with his movements clean and sharp. Hyunmin went next, his dancing was…okay. He has the basics at least but his dancing wasn't as refined as Taeyang’s. Then it was Minchan's turn. He was really good in contemporary, just like he said. Dohwan was next. He wasn't lying when he said he was average. His dancing was good enough but not really remarkable. Then Dahyun went next, he was really good too but I knew his vocals were better. And finally, it was my turn, I stepped forward and started dancing. I decided to mix hip hop and contemporary. When I finished, Taeyang whistled. “You're really good,” Dohwan said. “Thanks,” I said. We rotated through a few more times, trying different songs and tempos. Slowly, we started getting a sense of each other's styles and strengths. After about an hour, we took a break. Everyone grabbed water and sat against the mirrored wall. “So,” Hyunmin said. “What do you think? How are we looking as a team?” “We

The next morning, we submitted our song choice and got access to the official track. By 8 AM, all six of us were in the practice room, ready to start choreographing. “Okay,” Hyunmin said. “We have the song, now we just need to figure out the choreography.” “Should we watch the original choreography first?” Taeyang asked. “No, that one's a bit too cutesy for my liking,” Dohwan said. “We should try to create one that suits our taste.” “But we have no idea how to do cute choreography.” A beat of silence passed over the room. “Let's just watch the original,” I said. Dohwan looked at me. “But…” “We're not copying it,” I said. “Let's at least have an idea on what we're doing.” Dohwan looked at the ceiling. Then he dropped onto the floor, crossed his legs and waved his hand loosely. “Fine.” Taeyang pulled it up and propped his phone against the mirror. We gathered round. Fifteen seconds in, Dohwan’s expression had already shifted into something pained. “The hand gestures,” he sa
