Chapter 61: Help me…
Desmond’s eyes lifted again, locking briefly with Elias before he looked back at the others. “Is he watching us?” he whispered.“Seems like it,” Asher replied quietly.“But why?” Desmond asked.“I don’t know. Just ignore him and act natural. Maybe he’s getting suspicious.”Desmond’s gaze shifted to Vivian. “You’re going home tonight.”Vivian looked at him immediately. “What? Why?”“Because you literally passed out,” Desmond said, his voice firm. “You’re terrified. I think it’s time you and Zoe went home.”Just then, Zoe approached them and crouched beside them. “We’re fine, Desmond.”“No,” Desmond said. “Look at Vivian. What if something worse happens?”“I’m fine,” Vivian insisted, sitting up straighter. “I’m not going to chicken out. I’m only leaving when the rest of us leave. I won’t go while you and the others are still here.”“Vivian, why don’t you get it?” Desmond snapped.Asher exhaled softly, stepping in. “If she’s this adamant, there’s no point forcing it. We still have anothe
Chapter 62: Abort the mission
Desmond froze as Clarissa’s frail hand shot out again, grabbing his ankle shakily. “Don’t leave me,” she breathed, her voice barely audible. His eyes widened as he looked at her. She was weak, bruised, trembling and the footsteps approaching were heavy. Moving her now was a huge risk. What if there were traps, or a tracker on her? But leaving her meant she would fall into the wrong hands, and he had already seen what that meant. The man lying dead in the lab was proof enough. He couldn’t let Clarissa become another casualty. He bent down slowly. “Okay… I’ll try my best to get you out… quietly. Okay?” She gave him a small, shaky nod. He tugged off his hoodie and draped it over her thin shoulders, then took her hand in his. “Can you walk?” he asked gently. She nodded again, hands shaking as they moved to support her weight. Bruises lined her skin, dark and ugly, and Desmond felt a wave of guilt and pity he couldn’t suppress. And suddenly, he felt a familiar sensation. He looked d
Chapter 63: Realization
Vivian moved quickly through the corridor, her eyes scanning every corner as she searched for Zoe or any of the others. Then suddenly, the alarm went off. The sound echoed through the building, making her flinch. Red lights flickered brightly, washing the hallway in a pulsing glow. Vivian’s eyes widened as her heart began to race uncontrollably. “GOLDEN FINGER BREACH DETECTED. GOLDEN FINGER BREACH DETECTED.” Her breath hitched. No… “Desmond…” she whispered, fear creeping in fast. Had he been caught? Heavy footsteps echoed from somewhere down the hall. Voices overlapped, orders being shouted. She quickly reached for her AirPods, trying to contact him, but her fingers met nothing. Her stomach dropped instantly. She checked again, more frantically this time, brushing her hair back and patting her pockets. “It’s not here…” she muttered. “No, no—” Had she lost it? “Des…” she whispered helplessly. Her chest tightened. She couldn’t stay here. She had to find them. Vivian turned an

Zoe's eyes widened. She instinctively shook her head. “I… I don’t know. She was right behind us—”“Damn it,” Irius muttered, his voice low. “Don't tell me she's still in there.”Desmond’s eyes widened in horror. “What do you mean?” his voice cracked.Asher froze, her lips parting. “Gosh…”Irius looked between them, his expression tightening.Desmond clenched his teeth in panic. “Why are we all just standing here?” he snapped. “Let’s go back in!”He moved to step forward, but Asher grabbed his arm, stopping him.“Wait,” he said firmly. “We have to think about this rationally.”Desmond turned to him, eyes blazing. “You realize she’s my only family, right?” His voice trembled with anger and fear. “There’s nothing rational about this.”Asher didn’t let go. “And if you rush in without thinking, you could get yourself killed and then you won’t be able to save anyone.”Desmond’s jaw tightened. “I don’t care,” he said.Irius let out a frustrated sigh, rubbing his forehead. “Hey…hey, everyone,
Chapter 65: Can't be trusted
Desmond’s gaze darkened, his heart racing in his chest like festive drums. Even standing in the same space as Elias felt dangerous.Elias was the enemy. The one they were meant to take down. And now he was standing right in front of them, saying he was coming with them?None of it made sense.“Look,” Desmond said, his voice low, “I don’t know what you’re planning, but it’s not going to work.”Elias glanced at him, hands still in his pockets. “It already is.”Asher stepped forward slightly, his eyes narrowing. “Why?” he asked. “Why would you even want to come with us?”Desmond let out a sharp breath. “Because he’s trying to trick us. He wants access to the Golden Empire so he can get more information on how to take us down.”Elias scoffed. Before he could respond, Irius stepped forward. “I don’t think that’s it.”Everyone looked at him.“If he wanted information,” Irius continued calmly, “he wouldn’t come himself. He’d send someone we wouldn’t recognize. It’s easier that way.”Elias’s
Chapter 66: Granting access
“What if I also want to defeat Black Finger?” Desmond just stared at him for a moment before letting out a quiet scoff. He slipped his hands into his pockets and nodded. “So you want us to believe that?”Before Elias could respond, Clarissa suddenly began coughing vigorously.Desmond’s head snapped toward her. She was shaking slightly, her skin even paler than before.“Shit,” he muttered, rushing forward. “We need to get her inside.”They quickly moved toward the entrance and unlocked the doors with a code, stepping inside. But just as Elias was about to follow… The alarms blared.A machine-like device dropped from the ceiling, locking him in place as red lasers pointed directly at him.Elias’ eyes widened slightly, but he didn’t look surprised, frightened, or even shocked. He wasn’t one to show emotion. The others stopped and turned back.“He can’t come in,” Asher said, holding Clarissa.“That’s because,” Desmond added calmly, “he doesn’t belong here.”Asha looked at Desmond. “You h
Chapter 67: The truth
"Tell me baby sis,” Desmond said. His tone was deep and serious.Vivian’s eyes widened slightly as she stared at Desmond. But Desmond’s gaze was cold, showing how serious he was.“I…” she stuttered.Desmond didn’t look away. “Go on.”“I… I don’t understand what you mean,” Vivian said quickly.Desmond grabbed her wrist and pulled her slightly closer.“Don’t play with me, Vivian,” he said through clenched teeth.Zoe slowly rose from her seat.Desmond shot her a look, then turned back to Vivian.“I know you too well,” he said. “I know when you’re lying. I know when you’re hiding something.”He tightened his grip slightly.“So I’ll ask again,” he said. “What happened in there?”Vivian swallowed hard. “Desmond… it’s nothing.”“VIVIAN!”His voice dropped lower. “Don’t make me lose it. You know how I get when I lose it.”“I know,” she whispered. “I… I—”“THEN FUCKING TELL ME!” Desmond yelled. “Tell me! This whole situation is frustrating. And don’t tell me nothing’s going on, because things

[PATIENT’S PULSE HAS DROPPED BY 70%]Everyone immediately rushed toward the room.Desmond pushed the door open first.Clarissa lay on the bed.Her skin was even paler than before. Her chest rose and fell weakly, each breath shallow, as if she was barely holding on.Desmond froze.“Shit,” Asher muttered under his breath as he stepped in behind him, staring at her.The sight made the air feel heavier.“What’s going to happen now?” Desmond asked, his voice tight. His jaw clenched.“Elias isn’t even here with the antidote,” he continued in frustration. “She’s already dying.”“I’m here.”Elias’ voice suddenly echoed from behind them.Everyone’s heads snapped toward the door as he walked in slowly, a small tube container in his hand.“You’re late,” Desmond snapped immediately.Elias looked at him calmly. “At least she’s still alive.”Asher rubbed his forehead, exhaling sharply. “Did you get it or not?”Elias raised the small tube, showing it to them, then moved closer to Clarissa’s bedside.
Chapter 69: Let's do it
“There’s a chip inside her.”For a split second, no one moved. Then everyone’s eyes widened.Desmond was the first to react. He rushed out of the dining hall, the others following immediately behind him. They pushed into the room.Clarissa lay on the bed, still pale but visibly better than before. The antidote had worked, at least partially.“A tracking chip?” Desmond asked sharply.Noah stepped forward quickly. “It’s one of those chips Blackfinger uses,” he said.“A sensor. It can send signals directly to their system.” Asher added.Irius moved closer as well, his expression tightening. “If it’s active, they could already be tracking her.”Asher moved closer. “How do you know she has a chip?” he asked Noah.Noah stepped forward, pointing at her left wrist.“I noticed a bulge on her skin,” he said.Everyone leaned in, eyes narrowing as they focused on the area.“I thought it was just swelling from the injuries or something,” Noah shrugged. “But then I noticed a flicker.”“A flicker?”
Chapter 70: Containment system
“Something’s happened to Vivian,” Zoe said, breathing quickly.Everybody froze.“What is it this time?” Irius sighed under his breath.Desmond was already moving. He walked straight over to Zoe. “What happened?”Zoe looked at him, trembling slightly. “I don’t really know how to explain it… we were just talking, and then she collapsed. Then she got up again and started acting really weird.”Desmond’s expression changed instantly. He didn’t wait for anything else. He rushed out.“Where is she?”“In the main hall,” Zoe called after him.The rest followed immediately.Desmond reached the doorway first, his voice sharp and urgent. “Vivian!”Asher’s brows furrowed the moment his gaze landed on Vivian. She was sitting on the floor. What made it strange was how still she was.Her breathing was uneven, her head lowered, her hair covering her face.Desmond moved closer. “Vivian…”He moved closer to her.Asher’s gaze dropped to her fingers, and he noticed they were twitching lightly. He stepped
