CHAPTER 89 - HAZEL IS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND.
Xavier stared at me, shocked. "If she's not with you and she's not with me, then someone else has her… don't you think your brother is behind this?" he asked. The realization hit me and my hands froze. "No… she's not with him I just took down my brother," I said. A kind of shock rose to his eyes."So who do you think has her?" he asked, the surprise still sitting heavy on his face.Just then footsteps marched through the hallways. Xavier's eyes widened at the sound. He turned as I looked forward a troop of armies rushed through in escort of Kaelthys, High Lord of the Northern Clans."Seize him!" he shouted.I smirked as the men lunged forward."Xavier," I said without looking at him, "I think you need to leave now and go find Hazel. I can handle this."He didn't hesitate. He was gone quickly.I moved against them with full force. Two swords in my hands. It only got easier with each fast swing.I took them down one by one and in no time their bodies lay lifeless across the stone floor,
CHAPTER 90 - ZARIN AND WHAT THE FIRE CHOSE
A smile played on Zarin's face as he stepped closer.I drew out my sword. "Where is Hazel?" My hands shook with anger."Hey, Dravon, if you kill me you'll never get to her… so you can't kill me," he said, smirking, and it irritated me to the bone. My hands balled into fists."I'll ask you one last time. Where is Hazel?" My nails began to elongate."Whoosh, the lover boy is angry," he said, walking toward me, then circling me slowly. It took everything in me not to snap his throat right out of his neck."What do you want?" I asked. He stopped and came to stand in front of me."Good question… a very good question, Dravon. I've been waiting to hear that from you." He smirked. "What do I want…" He paused, then poked my nose with an annoying grin. I breathed in slowly, still trying to hold myself together. My body was going insane with rage. I could kill him here and now but Hazel held me back."Zarin, what do you want from me?" He cleared his throat, his eyes locking into mine."Alright,
CHAPTER 91 - THE GEM'S CAVE
"Dravon, please — I didn't do it. We were friends. Even though I threatened you, I would never — I didn't," she said as tears rushed down her face.I looked at Dravon. "What is she talking about?" I asked. He didn't say a word. He just stood there, boiling."One day you threaten to expose me and Hazel's whereabouts, and then the next day Aiden storms Voidfang, so tell me, how am I supposed to believe you?" he said, his anger barely contained."We were friends, Dravon. You know very well I would never sell you out. I know I messed up by saying that in the garden, but I didn't do it."Dravon closed his eyes and took a long, heavy breath."Get lost," he said."Hazel, I didn't, you know I can't," she said, turning to me. I nodded.More tears slipped down her face. Something in me believed her. But Dravon's hands balled into fists and I could feel his irritation rising."I said get out," he barked, his eyes now holding a silent storm that could consume her at any moment.I walked up to him
CHAPTER 92 - COLD BLOOD.
Seraphine's POVI sat before the mirror in my sacred room, watching in delight. He had arrived at the cave, surprising me. Through Vorthar's words he had seemed determined, but seeing it was something else entirely. Interesting. A smirk played on my lips as I watched him walk forward until he reached the mouth of the cave. He looked around, then stepped inside. The mirror went dark.I tried to rekindle its magic, chanting spell after spell, but each time my hands neared the surface, electric shocks surged through me. I tried again. Same thing."Looks like you enjoy exhausting yourself… don't you," Vorthar's voice echoed through the room.I turned to see his silhouette moving along the walls."Vorthar…" I said, rising to my feet."Magic is not permitted to penetrate the walls of the cave where the gem rests, my lady. I thought you would know that by now," he said."And what brings Vorthar to my chambers?" I asked, watching his unsteady shadow shift across the wall."You should retrieve
CHAPTER 93 - TAKING THE GEM.
NATHAN'S POVI walked through darkness for what felt like hours. I didn't know where I was going, couldn't see the path ahead, but my instincts kept pushing me forward until I bumped into something. The lights came on.My head hurt from the collision. My hand moved to the spot, pressing over the place where the pain stung. The cave brightened. My eyes stung from the sudden light after so long in the dark. I shut them, riding out the pain. When I finally opened them, the sight stopped me cold. I was standing in a huge hallway lit by lamps glowing from the mouths of beautifully carved stone dragons, crystals of different forms set into their eyes. A large stone fixture ran overhead holding several fire lamps, the main source of light. I stood there, dumbstruck. Then I turned to find what I'd collided with, and that was when I saw it. A thick, heavy iron gate stood before me, sealing off any further passage into the cave.It was massive. Carved across its surface was a great stone dragon
CHAPTER 94 - BACK IN ALDRIDGE.
NATHAN'S POVI froze. The woman standing across from me hadn’t been there a second ago. One moment the woods were empty and silent, the next she was simply there, like the trees had exhaled her.My fingers tightened around the gem. I straightened slowly, holding it against my chest.“Who are you?” I asked.“Does that matter?” Her voice was light, almost bored. “All you have to do is hand over the gem.”“I asked you a question.”Something moved behind her eyes then, amusement, maybe.“You speak so rashly,” she said softly, “for someone who has no idea who he’s speaking to.”She took one step forward, then another. Her dark robes didn’t make a sound against the ground.“I am Seraphine.” She let the name settle in the air between us, like she expected it to do something to me. “Priestess of Eldorado, the dragon realm.”It did do something to me.I had heard that name before. Everyone in Aldridge had. Her name was the kind parents used to pull wandering children back inside, the kind trad
CHAPTER 95 - THE RETURN OF MORWENNA.
HAZEL'S POV "Mom?" I called from where I sat. "Whose house?"I couldn't understand why she looked so shaken by whoever was standing at that door. She didn't answer me. I moved to stand but Draven's hand came to my arm, holding me back."Hazel. You could get into trouble. You never know who's out there," he said quietly. Then the scent reached me."Morwenna is here?" Draven muttered.I sat back down slowly. Part of me didn't want to see her. But another part did."Please let me in." Her voice came through the door, low and urgent. "She needs to know.""She doesn't." My mother's voice was firm. "She's already been through so much. We can't just drop this on her like that."Then softer, more final, "Please. Just go."The door began to close. My mother didn't know I could hear every word. She still thought I was the same girl she had raised. She didn't know that somewhere between leaving and coming back, that girl had changed in ways that couldn't be undone. She turned from the door and
CHAPTER 96 - ADRAIN
MORWENNA'S POVThe house was as silent as ever. She looked deep into my eyes on hearing the name of her father. I kept silent and let the words sink in.Her eyes held no expression at all. She just looked at me, making it impossible to tell how she was taking all of this.So I had to continue.“I returned to the priestess chambers, but not as the girl who left.”“Is anything wrong?” she asked. She had noticed my countenance.“No, nothing at all,” I said.“You did waste a lot of time… but thank goodness you found them,” she said, raising the leaves. She stood up and walked toward her room.I looked at Hazel again. She was completely focused on what I was saying.“Throughout that day, my mind kept going back to him… Adrian. The more I tried to get him out, the more his thoughts clouded my mind. But after some days, I managed to pull myself together, knowing that I couldn’t feel that way, because he was human and it was forbidden.”After weeks of pushing him behind my mind, the priestess
CHAPTER 97 - HORRIBLE FATE.
I snapped out of my daze quickly, even though I knew she already suspected the truth.“I just went out for some fresh air,” I lied.“And for how long?” she asked, her brows knitting together in a way that was almost amusing but deeply suspicious.I hesitated for a moment.“Uh… hmm…” The words refused to come.“You stammer, sister. Clear evidence of the lies I see in your eyes,” she said.“He's human. I can sense it.”My body stiffened. She pouted her lips to the side.“Oh, dear sister… don’t worry. I won’t tell.” My eyes widened at her words. She stepped closer until she was only a breath away.“Our little secret,” she whispered.I stood frozen, as though ice had been poured over me, until I heard the click of the door and the sound of her footsteps retreating down the hallway.I took a deep breath and collapsed onto my bed in frustration. For days, I knew no peace. I kept my eyes and ears on Seraphine, especially whenever she was near the priestess. Surprisingly, after about a week,
CHAPTER 98 - DEATH AND BIRTH
MORWENNA'S POV Hazel had gone quiet. I watched her process my words, her face caught somewhere between shock and something she didn't have a name for yet.Dravon I noticed the way his hand moved to cover hers, steady and careful. "I always had a bad feeling about that woman," he said. "Seraphine." I nodded. His instincts weren't wrong. I looked at Hazel then, at those eyes I'd been running from for years, and I kept going. I fell to my knees, crawling toward Adrian as tears ran down my face. When I finally reached him his body was covered in blood. I shook him but he was lifeless. My eyes swept across the men standing behind her before landing on her face. She was smiling like she'd just swatted a fly. "Why… why did you do this?" I asked, my voice barely holding. The salt from my tears filled my mouth. A loud, hysterical laugh burst out of her. "What if I told you that all your lovey dovey drama was part of my plan from the start?" she said, grinning. I stared
