Chapter 31
CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE General Morbius grunted angrily while he glared his eyes as though Lord Thorne was standing in front of him. Slowly, he returned his sword to his sheath and sighed heavily to get rid of some of the anger boiling inside him.“Go to a safe place, General. Somewhere we can talk without being heard or even seen. I will be right behind you.” Aleric urged the General who looked around for a while before he began to swiftly walk toward the weaponry by the other end of the palace. The distance from where he began his movement to the weaponry was about two hundred steps apart, but he was certain that it was the only safe place.Aleric was patiently walking behind him until he stopped in front of the door, looked to his right, and then to his left. He pulled out a huge key hanging around his neck and quickly unlocked the door before pushing it open with both hands. He walked in almost immediately and gave way for Aleric to walk in even though he was still able to see him.He

CHAPTER THIRTY-TWOGeneral Morbius paused for a while to catch his breath, and when he had gotten a grip on himself, he continued with a tone that sounded almost like a whisper.“I am certain that Elder Clagmor will be in that meeting, and he is going to relate whatever decision they made to Lord Thorne, but we cannot allow them to jeopardize our plans. I need to get the leader of the Healers out of the way at once…”“Hmm? I see.” Aleric quickly thought about the wires he heard from the General while he took in a deep breath which he let out slowly.“Lord Thorne…” He said, and then he paused for a while, his face was bent toward the ground, but he wasn’t looking at anything in particular. The General was waiting for him to continue, but it seemed like he was thinking of what to say.“What about Lord Thorne?” General Morbius asked, thinking that Aleric was probably lost in so much thought that he had forgotten that he was about to tell him something.“Yes, he plans on attacking you ton

CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE General Morbius remained silent for a while, still giving the words he heard from Aleric so much thought. There were so many ideas going on in his mind, but he was unable to make up his mind on which of them he was going to think of particularly.Realizing that his mind was restless and he had some other thing that troubled him, he sighed heavily and decided to move his entire focus to the thought that seemed to be more pressing than the others which he felt were secondary even though they were still relevant.“We have to get Elder Clagmor, Aleric. You have to help me get him at once. He is going to be the key to exposing the plans of Lord Thorne and whoever he has been plotting this evil with.” General Morbius paused for a few seconds, waiting to hear from Aleric who saw the desperation on his face and couldn't bring himself to say no to him, especially after witnessing some of the terrible things that occurred himself.“Please, Aleric. Don’t say no, I beg you.

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR“We need to leave this place, I am almost beginning to lose my breath.” General Morbius slowly grabbed the handle of the door and pushed it open after listening attentively just to be sure that no one was along the passage. He peeped through the small space while he continued pushing the door open, and when he was completely convinced that no one was along the passage, he walked out slowly before gesturing to Aleric who followed suit at once.“You need to stay really close to me. There is a secret tunnel that is only known to the King and me. We made use of it during the last war after discovering that it had existed for centuries without being discovered.”“Oh, okay.” Aleric nodded slowly while he continued walking behind the General who scoured the entire space around them just to be certain that no one was coming close to them.“This way, follow me.” General Morbius said with a whisper while he moved toward the right passage that was almost at the end of the w

CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVEAleric stood still for a while, looking around while he waited eagerly for the General who was nowhere to be found. His ears were met with the sound of water cascading at a distance not too far away from him, and he could also hear the sound of rustling leaves from the umbrella trees that were planted behind the palace, very close to the gardens that had beautiful flowers that caught his attention. He had never been to the palace before, and he couldn’t stop himself from admiring the beautiful rose flowers that were planted in the garden, alongside the lovely hibiscus that was few, yet enough to stare up a bright reaction on the face of anyone who truly loved nature.“Where is the General?” Aleric whispered after a while, looking around while he searched for the General who still refused to show up, giving him another reason to doubt the little trust he had for him.At that point, Aleric became a bit restless. He knew that he had spent so much time in the palace

CHAPTER THIRTY-SIXHe was almost certain that they were going to go to the right after realizing that the road was better than that of the left path, but he was proven wrong when the General pointed to the left instead.“That way, Aleric. We are going that way.” General Morbius looked at Aleric who sighed softly, looking at the left road which seemed to be abandoned for a while with a few cracks on it, and several grasses sprouting at several areas that were meant for horses and feet.“I thought we were going to go that way.” Aleric pointed to the right while he looked at the General who shook his head instantly.“No, Aleric. That way is better. Going to the right would only make us more open to being seen by Lord Thorne whose territory is located toward that direction. I am certain that his spies will inform him of our movement they moment they spot us from afar.“Oh, I understand.” Aleric nodded with a neutral expression on his face while the General maintained his smile.“Let’s

CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVENSeeing that the main they were after had escaped through the back door, Aleric grunted in annoyance, turning to look at the General who didn’t want to admit that he was wrong.“I will go after him. I hope you can handle him.” General Morbius decided to make up for his mistake by going after Elder Clagmor who had fled through the back door.“Well, I guess the old man sees properly even in the darkness,” Aleric said with a smirk while the General ignored him and went after Elder Clagmor who he wasn’t even certain of his whereabout.Let with Baron who seemed pleased that he was going to be facing him again, Aleric sighed softly, looking at the dagger he was holding in his right hand.“Well, it seems the General has left you at my mercy, Aleric.” Baron sniggered while he marched forward toward Aleric who stood still, looking at him with so much contempt in his eyes.Baron continued moving slowly toward Aleric who looked at the sharp sword he was holding onto,

CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT“Path of self-destruction, you say? I haven’t really thought about that. Hmmm?” Baron placed his right hand under his chin, pretending to be thinking about the words he heard from Aleric even though it was obvious to Aleric that he was saying something entirely different from what he had in mind.“Imagine what everyone is going to say by the time they find out that you killed the King? It would be such a terrible shame to hear that their almighty Aleric Sworne, the brave hero of Valdris town is a murderer. I can picture the looks on their poor faces when news of your treason gets out.”Baron paused for a while, his smirk was intact while he nodded in satisfaction, looking at Aleric who was struggling not to act based on impulse, even though he was visibly angry, and fuming with intense rage.Aleric wanted to say a lot to the middle-aged man standing in front of him, but he had to take in a deep breath which he let out slowly before he spoke in a low tone.“You

CHAPTER THIRTY-NINEBaron looked at the dagger Aleric wielded in his right hand, unable to believe that it could inflict him with so much pain, but on second thought, he remembered that Aleric was more than an ordinary raider, but that wasn’t enough to make him relent. He grunted in pain, cleared his throat, and sighed heavily before taking another step forward toward Aleric who stood still, waiting for him to make the first move.“Come on, Baron. Don’t tell me that you are going to let that small injury make you stop your just cause. Remember that you still want to purge the Kingdom of the King’s chains. You can’t give up now that you are very close to your emancipation.”“That’s enough! Enough, Aleric!” Baron grunted in pain, looking at the injury on his left arm with blood all over it.Baron returned his eyes to Aleric who was looking at him with a taunting smile on his face which made him grunt angrily.“What is it, Baron? Have you suddenly lost your courage? Do you want to rele

CHAPTER FORTY“I have to do something, or I will be dead…” Aleric thought to himself, wary of the fact that the two replicas of Baron were not going to relent in their efforts to kill him.Aleric continued to dodge the swords that were meant to cut him until he unintentionally overlooked the sword of the replica by his right which gave him a cut on his thigh before he was able to get away from it.“What?” Aleric staggered backward, looking at his right thigh to see blood gushing out slowly and dropping to the ground. He wasn’t sure if he was supposed to pay attention to the injury that hurt him so badly or to pay attention to the two replicas of Baron who were still coming to give him another round of attack.Aleric quickly looked around, and when he found a spot behind him that was close to the wall, he staggered toward it to take cover, leaning on the wall he looked at the injury on his thigh.“What is it, Aleric? Are you afraid? Are you running when it has only begun?” Baron said w
