Chapter 60
Magnus sighed as we watched Lucian and Carter inside the car we were. “Too bad we can’t hear what they’re talking about,” he muttered.I smirked. “Don’t worry about that.”He turned to me, he looked so curious. “What do you mean?”I leaned back against the car seat. “Last time I had an encounter with Carter, I placed a small listening device on him.”Magnus whistled. “Smart.”I nodded. “This way, we’ll hear everything they say.”With that, we didn’t need to stay any longer. Magnus turned the car around and drove me back home. When we arrived, I pushed the car door open, and I was about to leave.“I’ll take it from here,” I told Magnus. “You don’t need to stress yourself over this.”Magnus scoffed. “You think I’m stressed? This is getting interesting.”I shook my head with a smirk, but as I turned to leave, Magnus reached into his pocket and brought something out.“Here,” he said, as he gave me a small device.I frowned as I took it from him. “What’s this?”Magnus’s expression turned s

The second I turned on the light, Dante froze. His hands were a little away from the open safe, there was a stack of hard currency which was halfway out.“Dante?” I called his name. He looked in my direction, his eyes were widening in shock. “Ryder?” He straightened. He looked shocked. “Shit… what are you doing here?”I walked closer to him. “I should be asking you that.”Dante sighed, he rubbed the back of his head. “Damn it.”I crossed my arms. “Don’t even think about it.”He sighed and slumped against the desk. “Look, man… this isn’t what it looks like.”I raised my brows. “It looks like you’re robbing Williams.”Dante exhaled. “Yeah… okay, it’s exactly what it looks like.” He rubbed his face with both hands.I didn’t say anything, just walked over and pulled up another chair, sitting across from him. “Talk.”Dante looked at me, then looked at the money in his hands. He looked… exhausted.“It’s my family,” he said. “They’re in trouble.”I stayed silent, waiting for him to explain.

“Ryder? You’re early today?” Elias said as he walked in to me.I shrugged, rolled my shoulders as I adjusted my gloves. “Couldn’t sleep much. Figured I’d get here before everyone else.”Elias hummed before he looked at the other men standing. They all gave me a respectful bow. I returned a nod, and then clapped my hands together. “Should we start the training?” I asked. They all agreed and got into training. When we started, each of them really put their energy into learning from me, and I corrected them when necessary. Before we knew it, time had passed, and after a while, I finally took a break, and sat in a chair and I exhaled deeply.Just as I was relaxing, I suddenly heard a voice through the speaker in my ear.“Hello, Vinie.”I stiffened. That voice belonged to Lucian. I pressed the speaker tightly against my ear. My heart pounded as I realized that Lucian was already at Vinie’s house. Then, I heard my brother’s voice. “Welcome, Vinie.”I tightened my grip around the device. I c

Vinie looked surprised as he shook his head. “How could Lucian possibly do that?”I clenched my jaw. “Lucian is more vicious than you think, Vinie. He’s not the man you believe he is.”Vinie swallowed hard. “But why? Why would he hurt Eleanor?”“I don’t know the exact reason,” I admitted, “but I do know Lucian doesn’t do things without a motive. If he had hurt Eleanor before, there was a reason. And if he showed up here today, there’s a reason for that too.” I took a step closer to him. “You need to be careful.”Vinie’s lips parted slightly, as if he wanted to argue, but no words came out. He was too trusting and too willing to see the good in people who didn’t deserve it.I sighed and shook my head. “Lucian isn’t someone you should trust so easily. Don’t let your guard down around him.”Vinie exhaled, but he didn’t say anything more. I could tell he was struggling to process everything.I didn’t push further. Instead, I turned toward the door. “I’ll see you later.”With that, I left

The man’s face twisted in horror; he looked so scared. "How can I do that? I can’t possibly do that!" he stammered. "The man we’re talking about isn’t just some random person—he’s like a grandson to the Hawthorne family! If I do this, how will I possibly survive in North City?""Then prepare for your own death and forget the antidote." I replied coldly to him.The man gasped. He was panicked. He scrambled forward, grabbing at my sleeve. "Wait! Please!" he begged. "I’ll do it! I’ll do it! Just... just don’t let me die!"I looked at him for a while before I handed him the small vial. "Execute the task and then come back for the antidote," I said. The man clutched it tightly, he swallowed hard. "You have to keep your promise.""That depends on you," I replied to him.The man hesitated for a second, then turned and left.I sighed and sat on my bed and pulled out my phone. I dialed Elias's number."Ryder?" Elias’s voice came through. "What’s up?""I need to take some days off work."Elias

Vinie sighed. "Ryder, I’m the elder here. I can’t allow you to keep facing these issues alone. I should be the one handling this." Before he could finish his word, Eleanor ran into the room. "Papa!" she called. She was so happy.Vinie and I both turned to her. She held up a drawing in her hands. "Look! I made this! Isn’t it beautiful?"Vinie’s eyes widened. He quickly grabbed the document and passed it back to me, trying to keep it out of Eleanor’s view. He then crouched down and smiled as he took the drawing from her hands."It’s really beautiful, Eleanor, you’re very talented," he said.Eleanor beamed. "I’ll make more and show you later!""Alright, sweetheart," Vinie chuckled. "Now, go show Mama, okay?""Okay!" Eleanor nodded and returned to the room.Vinie exhaled and turned back at me. "Since it has come to this, I’ll let you take the documents, Ryder. But promise me—if anything happens, you’ll tell me immediately."I nodded. "I will." I replied. Just then, my phone buzzed in my

The house was quiet, It's still dawn and I and Cain was still inside sleeping. I had always been a light sleeper, it was due to the years of training when I was in army, we can't predict what can happen, and that instinct kicked in when I heard the the creak of the front door of my house being opened.I sat up immediately, I picked up the knife I always kept under my pillow. I listened and was waiting for the intruder to make a movement. Then I heard a voice, it was low and confusing to me.“Who are you?” That was Cain’s voice.I quickly got out of the bed. I grabbed my shirt, I pulled it over my head as I made my way towards the living room. By the time I stepped out, I was met with a scene I hadn’t expected.I saw Delilah stood at the doorway, her long hair was slightly disheveled as if she had just got out of bed, she dressed in her casual hoodie and sweatpants. Then I saw Cain standing opposite her, he narrowed his eyes, he looked as if preparing for a fight. The two were trying t

Then I could hear a slow mocking clap echoing through the warehouse.Reginald’s voice crackled through the speakers above. "Ryder… you really are a fool." He said through the speaker.I looked around the space. I was searching for the speakers. His voice seemed to bounce off every wall.It made it impossible for me to pinpoint his exact location."I can't believe you actually showed up," he continued. "Did you really think you had a choice? Now that you're here, Ryder, let me make one thing clear—you are never leaving this place alive."I exhaled. "If you’re so confident, Reginald, then stop hiding behind your pathetic speakers and come out like a man. Or are you going to keep playing coward?" I dared him. There was a beat of silence passed. Then—"Of course, I'll come out," he said. "It’s only fitting that I see your face before I kill you."A metal door groaned open on the far side of the warehouse.Reginald stepped out, a smirk curling his lips. In his right hand, he gripped an iron

The students were still hanging upside down, their faces were flushed from the blood which was rushing to their heads. I walked over and started untying them one by one.As soon as I freed the first one, he dropped to the ground, and he groaned, he was rubbing his wrists. The others followed suit. They stumbled as they tried to stand. They all stared at me. They were totally surprised. One of them, a boy who had a deep cut on his cheek, moved forward to me. "You just took down twenty men like it was nothing," he muttered. "How the hell did you do that?"Then another female student with short black hair nodded. "That was insane! You were dodging, countering—it was like watching a real-life action movie!" she said. The other student also joined in."You have to teach us!""Please! We need to learn how to fight like that!""You saw what happened today—this world isn’t safe!"I sighed, I looked over them one after the other. "If you want to learn how to fight, find yourselves a teacher."
