021 The Reward
Jack opened the driver's door of the Bentley and slid into the seat. He started the engine with a rumble and eased the car out of the hotel's underground parking. He adjusted the rearview mirror slightly and caught Juliet's reflection—her arms crossed, her lips pressed into a tight line, her eyes fixed on him. She leaned forward between the front seats the moment the car merged into traffic. Her voice was sharp and full of contempt. "Did you come back humiliated by Selena? What made you imagine a celebrity idol would listen to you? I told you it was impossible." "You probably made a fool of yourself trying to talk to her, didn't you? I can already picture the look on her face when you tried to convince her." Jack, keeping his eyes on the road, reached over and slammed the contract folder down on the seat beside her with a solid thud. "Selena will be the brand ambassador for your company. It's signed and sealed. Now what do you have to say?" Juliet stared at the folder like it mi
022 The Stubborn Fiancé
Jack laughed, low and untroubled. "You're dreaming if you think I'll abandon you." Juliet stared at him in the rearview mirror, visibly worried. The news of Johnny Bowman's arrival had clearly rattled her. She looked defeated and resigned to her fate. She leaned forward between the front seats, her fingers gripping the leather headrest tightly. "Jack, listen to me. You might be smart, and a good fighter, and you can knock down a dozen assassins. However, not even you can handle an army with tanks." "Johnny Bowman doesn't play romantic games. He is a military commander with private militias, heavy weapons, and enough money to buy an entire city." "If Johnny wants me, he will have me, and nobody can do anything about it. You need to leave while you still can." Jack turned towards her sharply and looked into her eyes. The soft glow of the dashboard lights cast shadows across his sharp jawline. "I'm not going anywhere when my fiancée is about to be abducted by a psycho. Period." Ju
023 The Blackmailer
Jack stopped his vintage Triumph motorcycle in the underground parking garage of a downtown office building. The address Selena had forwarded led him to the private office of her agent, Ralph Decker. Ralph's agency managed some of the biggest names in modeling and music. After Selena's big break, he was the first to contact and sign her. Jack pushed open the heavy glass door marked 'Ralph Decker Talent Management' and stepped inside. Selena rushed forward the second she saw him. "Jack, thank God you came. Ralph received a screenshot of the pictures from a blackmailer." "They're demanding ten million dollars to delete them. Otherwise, they'll release the files in public!" Jack's gaze moved from Selena to Ralph and back again. The office walls were lined with framed magazine covers of the women this man represented. "How serious are the photos?" Ralph sat behind the desk—a heavyset middle-aged man in an expensive suit, receding hairline, eyes that moved a fraction too quickly betwe
024 Double Agent
"What are you talking about?" Ralph snapped. "I treat my clients like family! You're delusional!" "Ten million dollars from your own client?" Jack said with a scoff. "You're not just greedy. You're stupid." The room went very quiet. Selena stared at her longtime agent, doubt flashing across her face. Ralph's chair creaked as he stood up, backing towards the window. "This man is lying, Selena! Don't believe him!" Selena spoke up, her voice unsteady but protective of her agent. "Jack, don't be ridiculous! Ralph is trustworthy. He would never do something like this." "Your source must be mistaken. Maybe the blackmailer is someone else who hacked my cloud and is setting Ralph up. Please don't target him like that!" Jack didn't move, and his expression remained unchanged in the face of Selena's appeal. "My sources are infallible. Only his confession remains to be made." Ralph's face twisted from shock to pure rage. He slammed his fist on the desk, the sound cracking through the room.
025 The Confession
Selena looked at Jack, her eyes wide with fear and uncertainty. She knew he was strong and could fight the guards if it came to that, but there was no need to push Ralph any further. The agent had connections that could ruin her life with a single phone call. She stepped closer to Jack and spoke in a trembling voice. "You should apologize. The claims you're making are ridiculous. Ralph has been with me for years and would never do something like this. Please, just say you are sorry so we can end this nightmare." Jack stood perfectly still. His expression remained calm, almost bored. "I am not going to apologize. I am confident of my claims. In fact, I can prove that Ralph is the blackmailer." Ralph burst into loud, mocking laughter. He leaned back against his desk with arms crossed, trying to look in control. "Go on and prove it then. And if you can't, my guards will beat you up anyway. Selena, tell this fool to stop wasting our time before I lose my patience." Selena tried to di
026 Monster
Selena stepped forward quickly, her voice trembling as she turned to Ralph. "Please let us go. I will pay you the money. Ten million, twenty million, whatever you want. Just don't harm us. I will do anything. Please." Ralph leaned back against his desk, the cruel smile still in place. He crossed his arms, unhurried, enjoying the shift in the room's power. "Now I have finally tamed you, Selena Hart," he said. "I am merciful. I will let you go on one condition." "Anything!" she exclaimed. She just wanted to escape. And she feared that Jack might fight and get himself badly hurt—the threats were too many even for someone like him. "You will shoot a video with one of my men," Ralph said flatly. "I will record it and sell it to the highest bidder." "And going forward, you will be available to certain clients who have been asking about you for some time. They pay very well for the kind of company they want." "No way." Selena's voice was shaking but her answer was immediate. "I would r
027 Beast Eyes
Selena looked like she would faint any second. Her face had gone deathly pale, and her body swayed as if the ground beneath her had turned to liquid. She stared at the bodies on the floor, then at Ralph's finger hovering over the red button on the desk. Two impossibly awful choices. She could submit to what Ralph wanted—abandon her dignity, her career, every boundary she had—or she could watch her entire life become a public disaster if those photos went live. Selena's hands trembled at her sides, her nails digging into her palms until they left red crescents. She turned to Jack, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know what to do. You decide." Jack's face was unreadable. He let the silence hold, giving it weight. Ralph's finger twitched closer to the button, his smile widening. Jack finally spoke, his voice quiet and certain. "I told you not to worry. Why are you doubting me now?" Selena stared at him for a long moment. He hadn't moved. He hadn't changed. He was the same
028 Naval Approach
The grand doors of the Forbes mansion swung open before Juliet reached them. Her grandfather, Donald, stood at the base of the sweeping staircase, his aging face and silver hair catching the light from the crystal chandelier above. Beside him were her father, Richard, looking pale and drawn, her mother, Lydia, with her arms tightly crossed over her chest, and her sister, Cathy, hovering nearby with a forced look of pity. "Juliet, you're back," Donald said, his voice edged with urgency. He led them all into the adjacent sitting room. "Things have escalated faster than we anticipated." She sank into one of the velvet armchairs, her fingers tightening around the strap of her handbag. "What is it? Any news about Johnny Bowman?" Richard cleared his throat, stepping forward. "He's arriving by sea on a massive naval ship — immense, from what our sources say. It will make landfall in a few hours at the private docks north of Redmont City." Donald continued. "From there, he'll take a helic
029 The Bunker
Everyone in the sitting room stared at David Cross as if he had just suggested they set the mansion on fire for warmth. Even Grandfather Donald's face contorted, his brows knitting together in disbelief. Richard shifted uncomfortably in his chair, while Lydia and Cathy exchanged quick, uncertain glances. Juliet spoke up. "Have you lost your mind, David? Marry you right now, in the middle of this crisis? The answer was no before, and it will *always* be no." David held up his hands in a placating gesture. "Hear me out, Juliet. If you're legally my wife, we can oppose Johnny with the combined strength of both families. The Cross empire has political connections." "We could release a statement immediately—announce the marriage, and perhaps even float the rumour that you're already pregnant. Johnny won't risk coming after a married woman carrying another man's child. It would make him look like a desperate fool in front of the world." Dean Drummonds cleared his throat and stepped forw
030 The Uninvited Guest
Bang! Bang! Greg froze, his hand halfway to Juliet where she lay on the cot. He hadn't told a soul which bunker they'd be using. There were six on the property, all identical from the outside, all rigged with different access codes. Only three people in the entire Forbes organisation knew the combination to this one, and two of them were currently absent from the estate. Who was this uninvited guest? Greg crossed to the reinforced panel and squinted through the peephole. A man stood too close to the door, in ordinary clothes—work boots, dark jacket. The viewing angle cut off everything above the shoulders. The maintenance crew, Greg decided. Or one of the gardeners who had wandered too far and gotten curious. His mouth twisted in annoyance. "Get lost!" he barked into the speakerphone. "This bunker is being used for urgent Forbes family business. You don't belong here. Scram!" The figure didn't move. The voice that came back was calm and almost mild. "Then let me in. I'm import
