CHAPTER FORTY “Please, Daddy. I made a promise! Don’t make me look like a fool.” Tiara pleaded with her father but the look on the man’s face clearly indicated that he was not going to agree to her request. “If he thinks he deserves any other thing for doing his job apart from the money which I was willing to give to him, then I don’t think that is possible.” Mr Newton barked not eager to go back on his decision. Tiara turned her gaze towards Alex and seeing the disappointment glaring on his face made her heart sink. Not only was she sad that she wasn’t going to keep her promise, but she was also sad that she could lose her friendship with him. “Mum? Say something.” Tiara turned to her money in search of support but the woman only hissed and rolled her eyes at Alex. “Please, Dad. Just do this for me and I promise, I won’t bother you for any other favor.” Mr Newton was silent and from his stillness, one would really think he didn’t hear the words spoken by his daughter. He compl

CHAPTER FORTY-ONE Alex knocked on the door and one of the guards opened it to let him out. Taking in enough air, he exhaled sharply as he took the first step out of the room through the large wooden door.As she looked at him going out, Tiara was pained that she couldn’t meet up with her own end of the bargain. She looked at her mother, but her eyes were closed and she didn’t look like she was going to open them anytime soon. “This is not right Dad! Not right at all.” “Maybe when you know what plans I have you would appreciate me.” Mr Newton said but by the time he had finished talking, Tiara had already stormed out of the room. “Come back Tiara! Why do you bother yourself so much.” Mr Newton called out to his daughter but she was already out of the room and far from sight. “Wait Alex ! Please wait I beg you.” Alex continued to walk out of the house through the hallway ignoring the voice of the lady calling out to him from the back. “Gosh he walks so fast!” Tiara said to hers

CHAPTER FORTY-TWO Amidst the stillness in the hall was rising tension that steamed up into the atmosphere, even the air could feel it. “I can’t believe this! He could Alex embarrass me that way?” Maya said aloud pacing from one end to the other. Her fist clutched together in a tightened grip. She was fuming and each step she took increased the anger inside of her. “Maya! Maya!” The female voice called out from the other room, but Maya was too annoyed to respond. Lady Rodriguez rushed into the room almost tripping to the floor with her smartphone in her right hand. “Maya!” “Not now mum! Not now.” Maya said to her mother with an obvious tune that pointed out that she wasn’t in the mood to listen to whatever she had to say. “You should see this! This is really bad!” Lady Rodriguez said approaching her daughter gradually. “What is it mum?” Maya asked, suddenly developing some interest to what her mother came to speak to her about. “This!” Lady Rodriguez said and placed the s

CHAPTER FORTY-THREE “Is it ringing? Has he picked?” Maya asked impatiently but the look on Victor’s face showed that the person he was calling was not taking his call. After a few seconds, Victor angrily took down the phone from his hand and clutched it tightly in his palm almost crushing it in anger. “Why isn’t he taking his bloody calls?” Victor yelled angrily almost startling Lady Rodriguez, who was so deeply in thought that she lost balance. “What’s happening? Why do you all look so worried?” Said the deep male voice ascending from the door of the hall. They didn’t even realize that someone else was amongst them. “Dad? There is a little problem.” Maya said to her father almost letting out the tears that were gathered up in her glands ready to stream down. Seeing the look on his daughter’s face, Kelvin hastened his steps towards her and embraced her warmly still trying to figure out what the real problem was. “What troubles you my dear?” He asked as they both pulled out from

. CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR “So the poster was dumb enough to leave her email address on her page and it bears her full name. Who even uses their full name for their email address?” Victor said with a scoff. His finger pointed at the email address on the profile as he spoke. “Ok? What do we do now?” Lady Rodriguez asked still anxious about how best they were to resolve the issue. “I will send her an email but I would have to use another email address that is not related to me, maybe create one so that she doesn’t get suspicious, then I would find a way to lure her to see me.” “Won’t that take too long?” Maya asked adjusting herself from the couch with a frown on her face. “This is the only way, Maya. It’s either we get someone to take down the post or we get the poster to take it down.” Kelvin sighed loudly and leaned backwards on the couch. He placed his hand on his chest and sighed again without saying a word. “Alex is going to pay for this I swear! He won’t do this to me and

CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE “Is it ringing?” Lady Rodriguez asked but she got no response. “What’s he saying?” She asked again but Kelvin was silent. He seemed not to be getting any better with the look on his face. “He refused to take my call.” He said regrettably making everyone in the room to sigh in disappointment. “Call him back then, maybe he didn’t see the first call.” “It’s pointless Erin! He clearly is too annoyed by the post and wouldn’t want to pick up my call. I can’t do this right now.” Kelvin said, then he went back to the couch and sat down without saying a word. “That’s your phone ringing Maya,” Victor said looking down at Maya’s pocket. “Oh!” Maya said, then she gradually pulled out her phone from her pocket and looked to see the caller. The look on her face grew darker as she looked at the screen. “Who is it?” Victor asked trying to look into the screen of the phone but it was blurry from his angle. “This is not good at all!” She said showing the screen to Victor. “

CHAPTER FORTY-SIX Walking along the road and filled with the sensation of disappointment that he had faced, Alex bent his face and dragged his feet through the lonely road. It was almost nightfall and the weakness that invaded his bones made him yawn with so much eagerness to sleep. “I can’t go back to Maya, that would be a no-no for me,” Alex said and sighed releasing some tension that had been building up in his body. All through his marriage to Maya, he had been living with her, helping her build up her family business because he loved her. He was very much aware that going back to her house would mean another chapter of humiliation and this he didn’t want. “She really shouldn’t have shown up. She has ruined everything!” He groaned with a heightened breath. “Where do I sleep tonight? The darkness already hovers over the earth.” He thought to himself, then he stopped right in the middle of the road and sighed with his left hand on his waist and his right hand holding on to the

CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN “It must contain a reasonable amount of money. Something to get me a good place to rest tonight.” He thought to himself, then he sighed and twisted his neck making a cracking sound. As the taxi man drove on the main road, he took the liberty of observing Alex closely through his rear-view mirror. He thought the man was really strange as he smiled to himself after a while of being sad, then went back to a gloomy face. “What’s your name son?” He asked tilting his neck a bit to the right to look at Alex. “Who? Me?” Alex asked trying to be sure if it was really him that the driver was referring to. “Yeah, sure!” Said the man with a slight nod, then he turned his face towards the road and lifted his head a bit in a gesture that showed that he was still listening to Alex. “Alex Sir, my name is Alex,” Alex said slowly still wondering why the man asked him for his name in the middle of the road. He looked above his shoulders to be sure that he wasn’t in for some tro

CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT “What an unruly fellow,” Alex said with a frown on his face as he watched the yellow car zoom off into the road until it faded into the darkness. “I really have to get something to eat. He is right after all.” He said to himself, then he sighed and turned around to face the entrance of the hotel, after he had adjusted his clothes as they were rumpled from the grip of the taxi driver. “What a beauty!” He exclaimed with a smile that erased the memories of the past event almost immediately. With a heavy sigh of relief, Alex took one bold step after another and walked right towards the entrance of the hotel. As he pushed the glass doors of the hotel framed with golden borders, he was met with the large hall of the hotel with an exquisite décor. The interior was more amazing than the wonders he thought he saw outside.“Wow!” He exclaimed as he saw the exquisite chandeliers shining brightly and even sending glittery sparkles to to the fine marble on the floor. CHAPTER FORTY-NINE “Please I beg you. I am super exhausted and would love for you to just give me a room. What’s with everyone in this hotel?” “Do you think this place is some sort of charity outlet for the homeless? Someplace you can just walk into and demand a room.” The receptionist said still firing shots of disgust at Alex. She was pissed that the first person to come to her after almost an hour of waiting for a potential guest was a madman. “Why are you being so rude to me, did I tell you that I am homeless or that I think this place is a charity outlet?” Alex retorted, trying to hard to control his anger, but his words didn’t get him anything good rather than a snigger from the unruly receptionist who continued to chew on her gum ignoring him for a while. “Hello! Excuse me!” Alex tapped on the wooden counter trying to call the attention of the receptionist who completely ignored him and fixed her gaze upon the screen of the desktop computer in front of her, and even though
