Dr. Smith, however, appeared more embarrassed than angry now. He looked around the room and seemed to realize that everyone was staring at him as though he had completely lost control of himself. He slowly raised both hands and tried to defend what he had done.“Listen, everyone,” Dr. Smith said, forcing his voice to remain calm even though his face was becoming red with embarrassment. “You are misunderstanding what I was trying to do. People who have been in comas for a long time sometimes require external stimulation. The nervous system can respond to certain forms of stimulation, and in some cases, a strong physical stimulus can trigger a reaction.”Mr. Kingston stared at him with disbelief.“Are you seriously trying to justify what you just did?” he asked, his voice shaking with anger. “You slapped my fifteen-year-old daughter across the face while she was lying unconscious, and now you are calling that medical stimulation?”Dr. Smith swallowed hard before responding.“I was no

LEONARDS POVI remained beside the hospital bed, watching the young girl carefully. I looked at the girl for several seconds before speaking softly.“You have slept enough,” I said calmly, my voice gentle as I leaned slightly closer to her. “It is time for you to wake up.”Nothing happened immediately. The girl remained motionless.I continued looking at her.“Come back,” I whispered, my voice still calm. “You have been away for long enough.”Almost immediately, something changed. The girl’s fingers moved. It was barely noticeable. Her right index finger twitched once before becoming still again.Mrs. Kingston was the first person to notice it.Her eyes widened, and she suddenly gasped.“Wait!” she exclaimed, bringing one hand toward her mouth as she stared at her daughter’s hand. Her voice trembled with disbelief. “Did you see that?”Mr. Kingston turned toward his wife with confusion.“See what?” he asked, his eyebrows drawing together as he looked from her face to their daughter.M

I listened to Dr. Smith without interrupting him. I kept my expression calm, even though I could see exactly what he was trying to do. He was no longer speaking like a doctor who had a clear medical explanation. He was speaking like a man desperately searching for an excuse that would save him from the consequences of the bet he had made. Still, I said nothing. I simply stood there with my eyes fixed on him and allowed him to finish whatever explanation he had prepared.Dr. Smith seemed to notice my silence, and I could tell that he was beginning to mistake it for uncertainty. His jaw remained tight as he continued speaking, but he tried to make his voice sound confident, almost as though he were giving a professional medical explanation to a room full of people who knew nothing about medicine.“What I am saying is simple,” Dr. Smith insisted, his voice carrying a defensive firmness as he repeated and tried to prove a point.“Patients who have been unconscious for extended periods

“I never promised to resign simply because Mr Storm happened to be standing here when she woke up,” Dr. Smith said firmly. His voice filled with irritation, and I noticed the way his eyebrows pulled together as he spoke. He was trying to sound reasonable, but the tension in his face betrayed him. He folded his arms across his chest, almost as though crossing them would protect him from the pressure surrounding him.“I agreed to the bet based on the understanding that you believed you could bring her out of her coma,” he continued. “But what happened here does not prove that you actually caused her awakening. Medicine is complicated. There are countless things happening inside the human body that we cannot always explain.”He paused and glanced toward Emily’s bed before looking back at me.“Nobody in this room can conclusively prove that your touch caused her to wake up,” he said. “Her nervous system may simply have reached the point where consciousness naturally returned. It could

I looked at Dr. Smith for several seconds without saying anything. At that point, I realized there was no reason to continue going back and forth with him. I slowly walked toward him. When I reached him, I stopped directly in front of him, leaving only a small distance between us.Dr. Smith tried to maintain his confidence as though he wanted everyone to believe that he was still in control of the situation. But I could see the uncertainty in his eyes. His expression was firm, yet his eyes kept moving slightly, betraying the nervousness he was trying to hide.I looked directly at him.“I think there is something you need to understand,” I said calmly.Dr. Smith remained silent, so I continued,“What I did to that girl was not ordinary medicine in the way you understand medicine.”His eyebrows moved slightly.I could tell he was already preparing himself to challenge what I was saying.“When I examined her earlier, I didn’t just look at her physical condition,” I explained. “I looked
