A Scumbag
[Mia's POV]"I swear he will pay, that scum. And here I was planning on letting him off the hook if he said he wasn't like his family. If he had denounced them, then I wouldn't feel uncomfortable being in the same class as him. To think he supports then or worse, he doesn't care. And what gives him the right to touch me? I'll make sure he suffers for this."Just then, the image replayed again in my mind. It felt as if I was about to burst with anger."I should've chopped his arm off. It's no less than he deserves."No, Mia!SLAP!I quickly slapped my hands on my cheeks and took a deep breath."I can't allow myself to fall to his level. How would I face Levi then?"But even then, I still couldn't let him off scot-free.That stupid look on his face. It keeps replaying in my mind over and over. That blank expression of his."It infuriates me!"It was as if I was talking to a robot or a brick wall. Nothing I said about his family's evil deeds fazed him. There wasn't one shred of remorse i
History
After homeroom class ended, we had History.Shortly after our homeroom teacher left, a grey-haired old man entered the room; he would be our history teacher. The history they taught in the academy was what happened after the other worlders showed up in our world and the war that took place shortly after.Back in my world, a lot of games and novels had similar storylines to this one. In these stories, when the otherworlders show up with their magic and systems, the humans were always helpless. All the technologies and weapons they had spent years developing proved useless against the invading forces. In Demon Among Us, that was far from the truth. During the beginning of the war, humans weren't helpless. They could hold their own against demons with the power of missiles, tanks, and fighter jets. But by far the most powerful weapon humans had at their disposal was the atom bomb. Apart from the demon king and a few others, nothing could stand against this power. To understand this, you

Theodore and I walked to our martial arts elective. When we got to the room, Sensei Barrett was sitting in a lotus position meditating. We quickly hurried to the changing room and returned for class. When we returned, the sensei had already stopped meditating and stood with his hands behind his back. The two of us lined up side by side in front of him. It seemed Asmura wouldn't be joining us today. It must've been because of what happened at the last class. She was a demon that got beaten by a human. An old man, no less.I understood how she felt to some degree. The demon king specifically asked us to kill the heroes in the academy that might pose a threat to him. If we failed, it meant death. The only other way out was if I sought the protection of the protagonist. If I confessed to him that I was a demon and asked him to protect me against the demon king's wrath. As if...That was the path most of the demons that infiltrated the academy took. They bowed their heads to the protagonis
My Wish
After school ended, I sent a text message to Sophia telling her to meet me on the rooftop. One important thing to note about this school was that we were constantly under surveillance. Except for the bathroom, there were cameras in almost every area of the school. This made the things I could do extremely limited.I told Oliver and Theodore that I would see them later before departing. I climbed the stairs towards the rooftop.Stepping out onto the roof, I saw a sea of students exiting the school. Some were walking by themselves, others were in groups, while some walked with their significant other. I saw a couple leaning on the railing and another couple sitting on a bench. They were all blissfully enjoying their days of being high school students. The school environment was mostly peaceful. That's part of what made 'Demon Among Us' different. Normally in theses types of stories there would be all sorts of chaos happening:The lower ranked students would be bullied to death, terroris
First Kill
The world around me morphed and spiraled as I stepped through the portal. For a moment I felt light-headed, and I could feel bile rising from the pit of my stomach, but that all disappeared the moment my feet were back on the ground. The space around me was pitch black. I took out the light source I bought and attached it to my chest before turning it on. Immediately the space was lit up, and I could see more clearly.A cavernous expanse laid before me. The ground was made of sharp, jagged black rocks, and so were the walls. Behind me, the portal machine was still active. I found it strange that there were no monsters in the area or that the machine managed to remain intact inside a dungeon.Putting that aside, there were several paths branching off before me. The space was narrow and only wide enough for two people to walk side by side. This made it all the more dangerous since there wouldn't be enough space to fight.A swordsman couldn't effectively swing his sword in a place like

I felt nothing.Killing gave me the same satisfaction as washing the dishes after I ate or wiping after I took a dump.It all felt so mundane.I thought demons would enjoy killing, not feel indifferent to it.This was good, at least. I never intended to become a psycho driven by blood or an overcompassionate demon. The only thing that brought me a sliver of satisfaction was the system message that appeared during my fight with the demon.[Sin Points +5 = 6/40][Sin Points +15 = 21/40][Sin Points +9 = 30/40][Sin Points +10 = 0/50][Demonic skill proficiency now at 0.5]It looks like I had managed to increase my demonic skill proficiency from 0.4 to 0.5.Killing was a sin, after all. But the reason why it had increased so much was because of the brutality I showed to the goblin. If I had simply killed it with one blow, then my proficiency wouldn't have increased this much. But since I allowed it to suffer, I was able to get more sin points out of it. Gaining sin points and increasing
Gobby
Walking over to the crystal, I pulled it from the wall and examined it. It was small in size. Something this small would only go for about 100 Zen coin.Sigh."Dungeons were a real grind."Mumbling to myself, I walked over to the goblin corpse lying on the ground. The pamphlet they gave me before said that the weakest goblins' core in the dungeons go for about 150 Zen coin. So I needed to kill at least 6 of these lower-level goblins before I even began to break even after selling the crystal. The beast core for a zombie lay beneath its rib. Right where its heart was supposed to be. That was why I aimed for its stomach instead of its chest. If the beast core was damaged, I'd be lucky if I could even sell it.The light source which I had bought and placed on my chest was flickering on and off. The room would be brightly lit for a few seconds before descending into pitch black. It seemed it was damaged during the battle with the goblin.Looking at the light source on my chest, I couldn't
Goblin Adaptation
I used the analysis function of my skill to analyze the beast core. I felt there was a lot I could learn from the beast core, but it was a matter of my proficiency not being high enough. The only thing I could get from it was certain traits of the goblin, two of which would come in useful. After analyzing the skill, I used the mimic function to mimic the exact use of the skill, then I activated skill creation.[Would you wish to create basic skill shadow cloak][Y/N]Basic skill? I thought it would enable me to create a special skill. Maybe my proficiency wasn't high enough? No, that can't be it. I was able to recreate my transmutation ability from data in the former Damien's cells. The likely explanation was that the beast core didn't have enough data for me to fully recreate a special skill from it. Since it was a basic skill, I couldn't increase my proficiency, nor did I have a talent for it. I would have to use the skill at the same proficiency the goblin left it at.[Basic skill c
An Ambush
My eyes shot open as I hopped to my feet, dagger in hand. It felt as if a horde of goblins was coming in my direction.Could they be coming after me?It was a possibility.Although weaker, goblins had the same nerve endings as me in their feet, if I moved, they'd be able to sense me at a close distance. If I had to make an estimate, there were roughly around twenty of them. With each core going for about 150 zencoin, plus the cores that I had on hand now, if I was somehow able to kill all these goblins, then I could earn more than what I receive in a month at this school. I would make roughly about, 3600 zencoins whereas I received 2410 zencoins monthly.I wasn't alone in this dungeon. There were other students competing with me inside this dungeon, and the only monsters here were goblins.Dungeons weren't popular among the first-year students and the upper-classes won't bother with a low ranked goblin dungeon, so I didn't have to worry too much about other students. Why would a 16-ye
Reptilian Monster
It all happened so fast, but the sight of flesh being torn apart, the sound of breaking bones, and the sulphuric scent of the goblins' blood was unmistakable. At that moment, I stood as still as possible and activated my shadow cloak skill. The mountain of goblin corpses that had piled up at the entrance of the narrow path tumbled down. A few of the corpses even stopped at my feet, but still, I didn't move an inch. With the corpses I killed no longer blocking the way, I could now see the monster responsible. It was a giant reptile that stood on both legs, except it had red scales that were shinier than most magic crystals. The creature's yellow slitted eyes gleamed with intelligence. The scaly humanoid creature then proceeded to rip out a chunk of flesh from one of the dead goblins and shove it inside its mouth. The monster continued like this, devouring every one of the goblins I killed, destroying their beast cores in the process.I couldn't help but sigh internally. What a waste.F
