Chapter 31
The Hades Family, and the entire city of Silverlace by extension, were in a jubilant mood when Hazel Hades returned to her family estate. On one of the city's local news stations, two quirky newscasters had bright smiles as they relayed the public sentiment.“It is a memorable day today in the Hades Family as their missing daughter, their Crouching Lioness, Hazel Hades, returns to the fold after escaping the clutches of kidnappers. We will be connecting with our correspondent at the crime scene where she was saved late last night. ”The scene changed to show a correspondent at the gate of the Hades Estate where there was a crowd of fans and well-wishers cheering for her return.“Thank you Jack, I'm Stella Holt from Silver Lining News reporting live from the Hades Estate as many fans and well-wishers congregate to celebrate the safe return of Miss Hazel Hades. Miss Hazel had been kidnapped a few days ago of which her case had stomped many, only for her to be rescued late last night by
Chapter 32
Alan’s declaration caused the air in the room to fall a few degrees.“Are you talking about corporate sabotage?”“You want to undermine them and take over companies?”'Isn't this too ruthless?’ they all thought the same thing.Although it wasn't new or even unacceptable in the corporate world, in fact, the current Great Families had annexed quite a number of companies to rise to their current height. In some cases, they had even caused rival companies in an area to go bankrupt so they could take their position in the market. They weren't strangers to this dark side to doing business. But, when Alan said it, they felt a chill. It was like he was planning to overturn the entire board, and destroy many lives, sacrificing them to solidify the foundation of the Hades Family again.“Do you have some companies in mind?” Old Lady Victoria finally asked after some moments of silence.“Of course. Myst Retails, owned by the Fletcher Family here in Silver Lace City…”His listeners began to run ca

That night, Alan and Hazel met at the same roadside cafe where he signed the marriage contract. This time, they sat inside the cafe, looking at the passing crowd through the one-way mirror beside them.“I thought we would be busy with all the work that's going on.” Hazel noted. It was a surprise to her when she saw Alan's call to meet up for dinner. She was stuck at home - since her grandmother wouldn't allow her to work after escaping such a traumatic experience - and his call was a welcome change of environment.“I was half expecting you to be buried at work. I hear there hasn't been any improvement at the Emporium.” Alan took a sip of his drink.“It worsened when I got kidnapped. Stocks crashed, and some of my young talents got recruited by competitors.”“Tough luck”, Alan chuckled into his glass.“It's not funny”, she complained. This was a real headache for her and she didn't know when the effect of their plan would begin to show fruit. It didn't make her feel any better that he
Chapter 34
Alan was an entitled scion of one of the three most powerful families, but his life of entitlement ended when the Dragon Race began, a rite of passage that dictated which of the scions of his family could become the next Patriarch and inherit the family wealth. The family retracted all support from all their scions and left them to fend for themselves. Alan was forced to switch schools, and that was how he met his ex-wife Lucia. They had dated for two years and during this time, Alan was building his company, Gold Aries, leaving its management to Timothy Hall. After those two years, Alan joined the army and was unable to return for four years. During this period, Lucia had remarried and Gold Aries had hit it big. Alan was once more a multimillionaire and the Dragon Race was in its last stage.Hazel felt like Alan was a true survivor with a turbulent journey and a worthy scion of the Walker Family. He had probably changed his first name to avoid attracting too much attention, but no Sc

On the way down the hill, the two of them walked down the silent road. Although they weren't discussing anything, they felt much closer than before they went up the hill.Hazel could see three cars just at the bottom of the hill, the SUV and two cars, meant to take them home. She remembered her previous driver, he had been paid off by her attackers and had disappeared after that unfortunate incident. She was still in thought when some men appeared in front of them. Each man looked menacing, and were dressed like goons and thugs.Hazel instinctively glanced towards the SUV afar, only to see that the bodyguards seem to be unconscious within the vehicle. Alan stopped walking, pulling her grip from his arm, to his hand. He then stepped forward, shielding her from them.“Good evening Miss Hades”, the person leading the group greeted enthusiastically. He was a short man with a balding head, wearing casual clothes with a gold chain on his neck.“I hope there's no problem”, Alan said calmly.
Chapter 36
Alan was standing in between Hazel and the attacker, the knife was a few inches from her belly, stopped by his iron grip. He had caught the blade of the knife with his bare hands.Blood dripped to the asphalt road beneath them, and the attacker began to struggle to push the knife forward or pull it out of Alan's grip, but it was useless.Alan kept his gaze on Hazel, his eyes lacked any clarity, all he felt was rage. How dare these maggots try to hurt his woman?!The man holding Hazel's hands in a lock tried to draw his own dagger as well, but a sharp glance from Alan made him stumble, the dagger fell out of his hand and fell to the asphalt road.Alan caught the wrist of the man holding the knife with his other hand and hit the man with the back of his bleeding hand. He then proceeded to hit the man's face with his bleeding palm, he did it over and over again, breaking the man's nose and knocking him unconscious.Hazel felt like Alan had become a demon, his aura felt suffocating like t
Chapter 37
Although Alan wasn’t a police officer, he could imagine the kind of headaches Interpol would face from this platform alone. He couldn’t even imagine the amount of resources would be required to run such an elaborate website off-grid and away from the prying eyes and fingers of many powerful parties. He even had a sneaking suspicion that many powerful factions in the world were using this underworld website as a mode of performing illegal business transactions. It wouldn’t be a new thing for the powerful and rich to run shady deals in the dark, while keeping their public image as pristine as possible. He just hoped his family wasn’t one of them.‘Having the support of a sovereign family…that would be frightening’“Let us wait for him to reach out to us again”, Alan said. He was sure that the mastermind would return soon. After all, they had detained the bodyguards and one of Gold Aries security teams had gone to the Hades Family Estate to make a report. Although they wouldn’t show Haze
Chapter 38
The Mercenary Task Force was a group of ex-military men that worked as mercenaries, some of them even belonged to special forces and they were quite influential in Silverlace’s underworld. Even in the ranking of underworld factions on the Midnight Bazaar, they were ranked in the top 1000s, surpassing thousands of other underworld organisations from across the world.Taskmaster was the leader of the Mercenary Task Force and he had built it by recruiting ex-military who were looking for a job where they could utilise their skills and get paid. The job market was fresh and always lively, someone somewhere would always get tired of civilian life and would want to get back in the game. Taskmaster recruited these people either when they were hungry for a change of pace, or when they were at rock bottom. In his entire life, he had never thought that there would be a mission that would make him nervous. This was until he came across Alan Walker. Not only did he fail a mission for the first ti
Chapter 39
John adjusted his suit happily as he waited for the other members of the Hades family to arrive at the large meeting room in the main villa.Old Lady Hades and Hazel’s parents had left for hours already, he knew they must have gone to see Hazel’s corpse, they probably didn’t say anything because they were too shocked and didn’t want to inform the rest of the family yet.It took just fifteen minutes for the first batch of family members to stream into the large meeting room. Linda and their father, Henry, sat in front of the room, facing the crowd. After another ten minutes, the room finally became full. All the Hades family members available within Silverlace City had arrived, and those that weren’t available had their representatives present.Due to the large size of the Hades family’s business Empire, minor branch families were usually posted to different countries to handle the family’s business there, with Scions spread out among the cities. They all reported back to the main fami

At Hazel Emporium, a board meeting was ongoing. High ranking managers of the company discussed ways they could solve the mounting pressure their company was facing. The doors to the boardroom were flung open and John entered with almost a dozen people, some of which were his bodyguards and others were dressed corporately, evidently his subordinates. This sudden entrance drew the attention of the managers in the boardroom as they watched the intruder with annoyance.“I declare this meeting on hold.” John spoke with a commanding aura.“What the hell are you doing here?”John's eyes flashed angrily, the person that spoke was the Executive Manager and Hazel's representative, Gideon Emery.“How impudent! When did commoners start to grow the confidence to talk like this to a scion of the Great Families? Don't you know who you're talking to?” One of John's subordinates blasted Gideon for his words.John silenced his subordinate with a raise of his hand. The subordinate took a step back in su
