TWO NAMES REMOVED FROM THE GUEST LIST
The head steward approached Amanda and Richard after the access list had been updated. He explained that both of them had to leave the property through the designated route, while their personal belongings would be returned before they reached their vehicle or pickup point. Amanda’s bag and Richard’s smaller items were returned by the staff after being checked against the storage record. The two questionable invitations were not returned because they were still needed to trace the unauthorized print source. Richard immediately objected. He said the invitations had been purchased at a high price and remained his property even if the Steel family refused to recognize the access. The coordinator explained that the invitations were part of a security review. Once the print source and intermediary had been identified, the result would be communicated through the proper channel.
THE FIANCÉ WHO MEASURED PEOPLE TOO QUICKLY
Bobby’s question was delivered in a polite tone, but it carried more interest in Peter’s position than in the medical reason Mr. Suryo had invited him. Peter did not answer with a long explanation. “The invitation was given by the Steel family. The staff has already verified it.” Bobby gave a small nod, though his eyes remained thoughtful. “Of course. I was only curious because private invitations are usually reserved for long-standing family connections.” Mr. Suryo heard the remark while walking beside Peter. “Peter saved my life when several people were too busy deciding whether I was worth listening to.” Bobby immediately adjusted his expression. “Then the family certainly owes him gratitude.” “Owing gratitude and respecting someone are not always the same thing,” Mr. Suryo replied. “Gratitude can be
THE CELEBRATION HAD TO CONTINUE
The main hall of Steel Mansion had resumed receiving guests by the time Sandra entered with Mr. Suryo, Bobby, and Peter. The room was spacious, but its arrangement still provided clear paths between the guest tables, the small stage, and the family area. Warm lighting and soft music helped settle the remaining tension from the incident at the entrance. Sandra immediately instructed the staff to continue the program without announcing what had happened outside. The head steward nodded and ordered security to return to their regular positions, leaving only additional supervision near the registration area. Mr. Suryo was guided to a seat where his condition could be observed easily. Peter made sure the elderly man did not feel dizzy after walking from the main entrance and asked him to remain seated for several minutes before taking part in the rest of the event. “You came as a guest tonight,” Mr. Suryo said. &l
THE EMPTY SEAT BESIDE SANDRA
An event staff member approached Sandra after the first main session ended. Speaking quietly, he informed her that Bobby had not answered any calls and could not be found beside the stage or in the nearby passages. Sandra showed no anger in front of the guests. She instructed the staff to keep the program moving and forbade any announcement that might shift everyone’s attention away from the celebration. Bobby’s seat beside the family remained empty. His name card was still on the table, while the glass in front of it had remained untouched since the start of the event. Mr. Suryo noticed the slight change in his daughter’s expression. Sandra continued smiling as she welcomed guests, but her shoulders had become stiffer and her replies were shorter than before. Peter also noticed the difference from several tables away. He did not immediately reach a conclusion, only recognizing that
VOICES IN THE EASTERN CORRIDOR
Peter followed the staff member’s directions into the eastern corridor. It was much quieter than the main hall, with dark carpeting, soft lighting, simple directional signs, and several doors leading to dressing rooms and guest restrooms. He walked without urgency because he had no reason to chase anyone. His only intention was to find the restroom after spending a long time standing and drinking during the celebration. When he was close to the next directional sign, Peter heard a muted conversation near one of the dressing rooms. At first, he thought someone might be arguing or perhaps needed assistance. He slowed and listened for a few seconds to make sure there was no emergency. A man spoke in a low voice, followed by a woman whose tone carried anxiety. Peter recognized the man’s voice as Bobby’s. They had met only briefly at the main entrance, but the man’s tone and manner
THE WOMAN’S NAME BEHIND THE DOOR
Peter remained at the corridor intersection, far enough from the dressing room door that he would not appear to be deliberately listening. He did not press his ear against the wall, touch the handle, or attempt to enter a room where he had no right to be. From inside, Bobby spoke the woman’s name clearly. “Regina, do not start this again. I already said we would discuss everything after the party.” The name allowed Peter to recognize the woman with Bobby. Regina was a public figure who appeared frequently in entertainment events and media coverage, but Peter had no reason to consider her reputation beyond the fact that she was hidden in a room with Sandra’s fiancé. Regina scolded Bobby for making her wait so long without certainty. She said she was always expected to understand his position, while he continued standing beside Sandra whenever people were watching.

THE MAN WHO LEFT FIRST
Peter moved beyond the corner and stopped near the entrance to the guest restroom. From that position, he could not see the dressing room door directly, but anyone leaving would have to pass the corridor intersection before returning to the main hall. He entered the restroom briefly so his presence in the eastern corridor would remain consistent with the directions he had requested from the staff. He washed his hands, adjusted his cuffs, and gave himself enough time to consider what he had heard without allowing anger to create conclusions beyond the evidence. Bobby had deliberately left Sandra during an important part of her birthday celebration. He had met Regina in a private dressing room, admitted that their relationship had to remain hidden, and instructed her to leave separately so no one would become suspicious. None of that explained the entire history between them. It did, however, establish that the meeting was
The Costly Promise
The door handle moved from inside, but the door did not open fully. Peter had already shifted toward the side of the corridor intersection concealed by the corner wall, so anyone leaving the room would not see him without turning far enough to look. The gap widened by several inches, then stopped. Regina’s voice came from inside again, firmer than before, as though she was preventing Bobby from leaving until he gave her an answer she considered sufficient.“You always say later,” Regina said. “The party is not over, her family is still in the hall, and I am still expected to wait like someone who is not allowed to be known.”Bobby answered in a lowered voice. He told Regina not to create trouble in the wrong place and reminded her that too many staff members passed through the corridor.Peter did not move closer. He remained in a position that looked natural for a guest who had just left the restroom, but he was close enough to hear that the conversation had moved beyond an ordinary a
Access Through Marriage
Bobby had already moved toward the hall when the sound of a phone came from behind the dressing room door. A few seconds later, Regina spoke in a restrained voice, as though her call had been answered immediately. Peter remained on the side of the corridor hidden from the doorway. He did not move closer, but the door had not closed completely, allowing Regina’s voice and Bobby’s reply to remain audible. “What do you mean by the position you need?” Regina asked. “Do not give me another vague answer after leaving me alone in this room.” Bobby sounded irritated that he had to explain himself while walking back toward the hall. He told Regina to wait until the party was over and not force him to discuss a larger plan over the phone. Regina refused to give in. She asked whether Bobby truly intended to marry Sandra, because every promise about their future meant nothing
The Hidden Plan
Peter returned to the hall at a safe distance from Regina. He did not approach Sandra immediately because the information he had obtained was too serious to deliver in the middle of a party without an orderly set of facts that could be examined. Bobby had already joined several guests and was speaking as though nothing had happened. Regina stood with another group on the opposite side of the hall, keeping her distance and avoiding any open glance toward Bobby. Peter observed the pattern without hiding. They had entered from different directions, selected different groups, and gave no sign that other guests could interpret as closeness. He then approached an event staff member who was reviewing a room checklist. Peter asked whether the eastern corridor had security cameras. The staff member explained that cameras covered only the public passageways. The interiors of dressing rooms and restrooms were n
