Chapter 71: Peak B-Rank
Azzarante looked at the chains and then at his preparations and then at the corridor behind him, and his expression didn't change at any point during the survey. "Fifteen," he said, to the shadows at the edges of the tomb. "The corridors. Deal with whoever came in." The shadows moved without sound, pulling themselves from the walls with the particular motion of things that had never fully committed to having a shape, and disappeared into the passages above. He turned back to Eva and Lorena with the unhurried patience of a man who had arranged everything he needed and was now simply waiting for the arrangement to complete itself. "You should understand what's happening," he said. "Most people in your position don't get an explanation. I find explanations useful. They save time." He looked at the sea below, the red moving in its slow ancient rhythm. "Beneath the Eltonaro Empire, under the lie of a dead man's tomb, lies what you see. The Corruption Worshipers have spent decades const
Chapter 72: The Gap Part -1
The aura sat on Dante's chest like a building had decided to stand there. His knee hit the bridge before he told it to, the stone pressing through his pants with the cold specific reality of something physical happening to his body without his permission. Beside him Letizia had both feet planted and her jaw locked and was staying upright through the particular stubbornness of someone who refused to give a position away even when every layer of them was being pressed toward the ground. Dante looked at the stone under his knee. Then he smiled. "Wake up," he said, to the dark. The Fallen came out one by one, each emergence adding its weight to the platform, until the stone bridge and the rock and the air above the red sea contained ten things that had no category in any standard framework. Vorak's yellow eyes in the dark. Pride's spear catching the red light. Azark's broken armor and the glow behind the visor that had never been a human glow. Azzarante studied them. Not with alarm.
Chapter 73: Just Like That part -1
The system notification arrived before the blood finished spreading.Death confirmed. Initiating resurrection protocol. The black and red light came from his heart first. Soft, almost quiet, seeping outward through the chest cavity in thin lines that found the paths veins used to travel and rebuilt them from the inside out, glowing branches pushing through reconstructing tissue with the patience of something that had done this before and was not in a hurry. Bone grew back the way bone should never visibly grow, layer by layer, the sound of it absorbed by the tomb's ancient stone. Muscle laid itself over the structure in clean deliberate sheets.Skin closed last.Dante opened his eyes, looked at the ceiling of the tomb, and stood up.He rolled his shoulders once. Reached both arms behind his back in a stretch that produced two audible pops. Then he stood straight and looked at Azzarante with the expression of a man who had just sat in an uncomfortable position for too long and had sort

Azzarante moved through the first wave with his hands working in fast precise deflections, the swords shattering against his redirections in bursts of scattered light that fell into the red sea below and disappeared. The second wave he caught and compressed and pushed back upward. The third he dispersed with a single horizontal sweep that cleared the air in front of him in a ring. One sword grazed his cheek.A thin line. Clean. Black blood ran from it in a slow line down the left side of his face and dropped from his jaw to the stone platform below.Azzarante stopped moving. He stood completely still and the four C-rank phantoms behind him stopped moving with him, following the stillness of something that had been reset to a different mode. His hand came up and touched the cut without looking away from Dante, and his fingers came back with the black on them, and he looked at it.The question of when someone last drew his blood sat in the air between them. The answer was clearly a very
Chapter 74: Boring Part-1
"DANTE."Caino's voice hit the tomb the way voices hit enclosed spaces, bouncing off the ancient stone and coming back from three directions at once, casual and entirely unapologetic about the timing of its arrival.Azzarante's arm stopped at full extension. The darkness in his palm held its compression, waiting.Dante lifted his head from the position he had been holding, the brace that wouldn't have helped and that his body had taken anyway, and looked at the corridor entrance.Caino stood there with his bow on his back and his hands in his pockets and the half-mad smile sitting on his face as if the last hour had been a pleasant walk and he had simply taken the scenic route."You're late," Dante said."I cleared the Shadow-Eaters quickly," Caino said, walking forward with the unhurried pace of someone arriving at a planned time. "Then I went to get reinforcements. That part took longer." He paused. "Half an hour, roughly. Sorry about that."Dante stared at him."Half an hour.""The

toward the corridor, toward every path out of the space, sealing them and creating the chaos of something burning in every direction at once. Not to kill.To run.The old man raised his hand.Slightly. The gesture of someone adjusting a curtain. The wave collapsed.Every flame serpent, every thread of the Devouring Labyrinth, every piece of the Spiritual Havoc that had just filled the entire vertical space of the tomb, vanished. Not extinguished. Removed, the way you remove something written by passing a hand over the surface. The tomb was quiet. The old man looked at where the serpents had been."Boring," he murmured. Genuinely. Then a hand descended from above.Pure white light, the size of the platform, coming down from a ceiling that had no business producing it, silent and total and without any of the drama that things at this scale usually carried. It arrived the way conclusions arrive, without ceremony.Azzarante screamed. He moved, fast and precise, and activated everything he
Chapter 75: No More Detours part-1
Eva made it to her bed and was done.No goodnight. No summary of the evening's events. She walked through the inn room door, dropped onto the mattress with her boots still on, and the particular quality of silence that followed was the silence of someone who had nearly died multiple times and had exhausted every internal resource available for processing it tonight.Dante dropped into the chair by the window. The city outside was doing what cities do at this hour, winding down without fully stopping, the blue rune-light in the cobblestones still running their patient lines through the dark. He looked at it without seeing it. His body had opinions about the evening. He was choosing to ignore them.Caino was still in the room.Dante knew exactly why."Payment," Caino said, from near the door."I know.""I cleared fifteen Shadow-Eaters, identified the Corruption Worshipers, located Marco Haron, convinced an A-rank to leave his residence at night on short notice, and arrived at a reasonab

He captured one of the Seven Calamities instead. Spent years experimenting on it, developing techniques that let humans channel Corruption Aura without losing their minds in the process.""The transformation.""A weaker version. Two to four times power boost instead of four to eight. The mind stays intact, which the natural transformation doesn't preserve." He turned from the window. "From that point the Corruption Worshipers were built around those techniques. They recruit, they convert, they work in cells that don't know about each other. And they have been moving toward something for a very long time." He looked at Dante steadily. "Tonight was not a setback for them. Tonight was one operation. They have others."Dante sat with that.He thought about the Light of Destruction sitting behind his eyes. About the Fallen rising from black and red liquid under his feet. About a power system that his class had handed him which bore certain structural resemblances to what Caino had just des
Chapter 76: The Dog part -1
Guglielmo's hand found his daughter's face before she could step back. Not a strike. Something worse than a strike. The particular tenderness of a man who believed the gesture still meant what it used to mean, his palm against her cheek, his eyes carrying the version of concern that had stopped being real somewhere along the way but had kept wearing the face of the real thing.Lorena pulled away. She didn't do it violently. She did it with the quiet precision of someone who had made a decision and was completing it, her face moving out of his reach, and the space that opened between them was not the space of a room but of something that had been building long before her kidnapping, long before the tournament was announced, long before whatever her father had been planning had cost her mother the last years of her life.Guglielmo lowered his hand."You're safe," he said. "That's what matters.""Is it," Lorena said."Come. Sit. You've been through something serious tonight and you shoul
chapter:76 part-2
His aura dropped on her like a ceiling collapsing. No escalation, no warning, no buildup. Full weight, immediate, pressing down from above with the concentrated force of a man who had been generous long enough and wanted the point understood in the body rather than the mind. Letizia's knees hit the stone floor before she could stop them, and the pressure continued past that, driving her forward until her forehead touched the stone, and something in her chest shifted in a way that told her two ribs had made a decision they wouldn't reverse without care. She pressed her forehead to the floor and breathed through it.Guglielmo crouched to her level."You are my dog," he said. His voice had shed every trace of warmth completely, not angry, which would have been easier. Just factual. "Before you are her protector, before you are her friend, before you are anything she believes you to be, you are my dog. My property. My instrument." He waited a beat. "The next mistake will not be forgiven.
