Chapter 11
"This is the end of the road," Li Chen whispered. He picked up a large rock from the ground and threw it over the edge. He waited and listened. One second. Two seconds. Ten seconds. He never heard the rock hit the bottom. He looked to his left. The cliff wall was smooth and slippery. There was no way to climb. He looked to his right. It was the same. The cliff stretched on for miles in both directions. He was totally trapped. The only way forward was straight down into the poisonous, monster-filled darkness. "Turn around, boy," Old Kui's voice whispered urgently in his mind. "The hunter is here."Li Chen slowly turned away from the edge of the cliff. The bushes at the edge of the forest exploded. With a terrifying roar, the giant Spirit Blood-Hound leaped out of the trees. It landed heavily in the mud, its large claws digging deeply into the ground. The giant dog snarled. Its red eyes locked onto Li Chen. Fire sparked from its nose. Sitting on top of the giant dog was Enforcer M
Chapter 12
Li Chen did not dodge. He did not run away. Instead, in a flash of lightning-fast speed, Li Chen dropped his hands from his head. He twisted his body slightly to the right. The giant dog missed his shoulder, but its massive jaws slammed shut around Li Chen’s left forearm. CRUNCH. The sharp teeth pierced straight through Li Chen’s thin skin and bit deeply into his flesh. Warm red blood instantly splashed out, mixing with the cold rain. The pain was terrible. It felt like his arm was being crushed in a vice of hot iron. "Argh!" Li Chen gritted his teeth, but he did not pull his arm away. This was exactly what he wanted. He needed contact. "Fool!" Mo laughed from a few feet away. "You let the dog catch you! Say goodbye to your arm!"But the laugh died in Mo’s throat a second later. Something was wrong. Very wrong. Li Chen’s left arm was trapped in the giant dog's mouth. But Li Chen’s right hand was completely free. With blinding speed, Li Chen reached up and grabbed the giant dog
Chapter 13
The wind roared like an angry dragon. It ripped past Li Chen’s ears with a deafening sound. He was falling. He was falling faster than he had ever moved in his entire life. The freezing rain from the storm above followed them down into the massive, dark hole. But soon, even the rain stopped. They were falling too deep. They were leaving the normal world behind and entering a terrifying abyss. "Ahhhhh! No! Help me!" Enforcer Mo was screaming at the top of his lungs. The tall, cruel man who had just wanted to cut off Li Chen’s arms was now crying like a frightened baby. He thrashed wildly in the air. He swung his heavy metal fists, trying to punch Li Chen, trying to push him away. But Li Chen held on with incredible strength. His dark, cold eyes stared right into Mo’s terrified face. Li Chen did not scream. He did not cry. He was completely focused on survival. The Beast Chasm was completely black, but there was a faint, sickly purple light coming from the bottom. It was the toxic
Chapter 14
Just an hour ago, the Heavenly Void Devouring Art had healed his crushed ribs and fixed his body. He had felt so powerful and strong. Now, he was broken and helpless once more. "No," Li Chen gritted his teeth. "I will not give up. I just need to gather Qi and heal them again. I have the power."But as Li Chen opened his mouth to take a deep breath of air, he suddenly realized a terrifying truth. There was no normal air down here. The Beast Chasm was entirely flooded with the glowing purple fog. It was everywhere. It crawled over the rocks. It sat heavily in the mud. And it was touching him. The moment the purple fog touched Li Chen’s skin, a horrible hissing sound filled his ears. Sizzle. Sizzle. Li Chen gasped in shock. "What is this?!"The fog was not just poisonous gas. It was highly corrosive. It was like airborne acid. The cheap grey cloth of his Outer Sect uniform began to melt instantly. The fabric turned brown, then black, and then completely dissolved into liquid, leav
Chapter 15
Li Chen thought of his murdered family. He thought of the arrogant faces of the Azure Sword Sect elders. He remembered the feeling of power when he killed Deacon Lin. He refused to die in this dirty hole. "If the heavens want me dead, I will eat the heavens!" Li Chen thought wildly. He moved his hands away from his mouth. He opened his mouth wide. He closed his eyes. And he activated the Heavenly Void Devouring Art. Li Chen took a massive, deep breath of the deadly purple miasma. At the exact same time, he used his mind to forcefully open all the millions of tiny pores on his melting, blistering skin. He turned his entire body into a giant, hungry vacuum. WHOOSH! The glowing purple fog around him suddenly swirled violently. It did not just float gently into his mouth. It rushed toward him like a wild river crashing into a deep hole. The thick, toxic clouds were sucked violently into his nose, his mouth, and directly through the open pores of his skin. Agony. Total, absolute, m
Chapter 16
Li Chen felt his physical strength double. His hearing and sight became even sharper. But the whirlpool of fog around him did not stop. He was still eating the ancient poison. The dark Qi continued to build, filling his newly expanded meridians. It packed into his body until he felt like he was going to burst. The pressure was intense, but Li Chen gritted his teeth and forced his body to hold it. "Break it!" Li Chen roared in his mind. BOOM! Another explosion of dark air burst from his body. This one was much larger. It blew the mud and rocks away from where he sat. In just one hour, Li Chen had jumped from a dying, crippled boy to a Third Level cultivator. Most normal disciples in the Azure Sword Sect took five years of hard work and hundreds of spirit stones to reach this level. Li Chen had done it by eating deadly poison. Slowly, the massive whirlpool of purple fog began to calm down. Li Chen took a final, deep breath, and opened his eyes. The deep, pitch-black vortex in hi
Chapter 17
The roar of the giant monster hit Li Chen like a solid wall of heavy stones. The terrible sound blasted away the purple fog, creating a massive, empty circle in the air. Li Chen stood his ground. Just a few minutes ago, he had absorbed a huge amount of the deadly purple miasma. His body felt bloated and packed with dark Qi. He had felt the power of the Third Level of Qi Condensation rushing through his veins. He felt invincible. He held Enforcer Mo’s long blue sword tightly in his hand, ready to fight the giant beast. "I am not afraid of you!" Li Chen shouted. He pushed all his new, dark Qi into the blue sword. The blade glowed with a fierce, blinding light. The giant monster looked down at him. Its green eyes, the size of carriage wheels, showed no fear. They only showed annoyance. To the ancient beast, Li Chen was just a tiny, noisy insect. Suddenly, a massive shadow moved in the fog. It was the monster’s tail. The tail was covered in thick, dark grey scales. It was as wide as
Chapter 18
The Chaos Root took the small drop of poison. It crushed it, burned it, and purified it completely. It turned the deadly purple acid into a single, tiny drop of incredibly pure, perfectly stable dark Qi. This new Qi was completely different from the bloated energy he had before. It was heavy. It felt solid. It felt like liquid iron. Li Chen carefully directed this single drop of dark Qi to his shattered legs. When the pure Qi touched his broken bones, the real healing began. It was not fast and messy like before. It was slow and extremely painful. Li Chen gritted his teeth until his gums bled. He felt the Qi moving the tiny, broken pieces of bone, fitting them together like a complex puzzle. The Qi acted as a burning hot forge, melting the bone fragments together permanently. He lay completely still in the dark, sweating, bleeding, and silently suffering. He did not sleep for a single second. …By the second day, the pain in his legs had changed. It was no longer a sharp, stabbi
Chapter 19
BOOM! Li Chen leaped upward with incredible, explosive power. He shot out of the deep crevice like an arrow fired from a strong bow. He flew through the air and landed perfectly on the rocky floor of the Beast Chasm. Thud. He stood tall in the middle of the glowing purple fog. The chasm was exactly the same as before. It was vast, dark, and filled with the terrifying roars of hidden monsters. The deadly miasma floated everywhere, melting any normal living thing that dared to touch it. But for Li Chen, everything had changed. This was no longer a death trap. This was no longer a place of execution. By turning the deadliest place in the sect into his personal sanctuary, Li Chen had found his true training ground. Up on the mountain, he was a hunted rat. Here, in the deepest, most poisonous hole in the world, he was the apex predator in training. Li Chen began to walk. He did not hide. He moved confidently through the thick purple fog. The miasma swirled around his metallic ski
Chapter 20
The beautiful woman in the black dress smiled at Li Chen. Her crimson red eyes, shaped like the eyes of a viper, glowed brightly in the dark cave. "What a delicious little snack you will make," she whispered. Her voice was smooth, but it carried a strange, echoing hiss. Li Chen did not lower his guard. He kept his iron-hard hands raised in front of him. His mind raced. This woman said she had been trapped here for three hundred years. If that was true, she should be an ancient, terrifying monster. But Li Chen felt something was very wrong. "Who are you?" Li Chen asked. His voice was steady. He pushed his heavy, dark Qi through his veins, ready to fight or run. "Why do you have the eyes of a snake?"The woman took a step forward. She did not walk normally. She seemed to glide across the rocky floor without making a single sound. The beautiful silver light from the box in the skeleton's lap illuminated her pale skin. "I am the master of the shadows," the woman answered, her smile gr
