INTERNAL CONFLICT
Luciana Beaufort, Damian Falcone, Julian Marlowe all stood up from the rubbles of the destroyed building. Luciana Beaufort stepped forward under the moonlight standing in front of Harrison, her deep brown eyes, her dark hair streaked with silver pulled into an elegant bun to her family emerald jewelry that she wears on her neck.“You fucking deceived us Harrison!” Her eyes seething with so much anger in them, her hands curled into a fist as she channeled her green flame to just her right hand ready to take him if it's required.“Deceived you? I brought the boy, didn't I?” Harrison defended himself, leaning against the wall casually.“You didn't tell us that the boy is a Windsor!” She hollered at him, her green flame burning even more up to her elbow.“Was it necessary? I brought a successful specimen and that's all you needed to hear.”“You motherfuc…..” She raised her hand to throw a jab at Harrison's face but Damian Falcone was fast enough to stop her, slamming his palm against h
A MAD MAN'S GAMBIT
Harrison stood calmly at the center of the room, closing his eyes and focusing sending nerves of messages through his mind surrounding himself with red Aevum flame serving as a shield. The sound of hundreds of footsteps kept drawing closer, drawing the attention of the other founding families that stood ready to fight him.“What the fuck is that?” Luciana asked, her gaze narrowed to the door.“We have to attack him now!” Damian yelled. “On my count we take him down, 1, 2……”The rogues bursted through the door… Dozens of them. Maybe even more. Their eyes glowed with a faint, sickly light, their skin looking burnt, slowly peeling off. They moved like animals, hunched and hungry, their hands crackling with unstable energy."What the hell is this?" Julian yelled, stepping back.Damian's red Aevum flared brighter. "Failed experiments, fuck! He's been keeping them."Harrison stood calmly at the center of the room, his eyes still closed, a faint smile on his lips while the red Aevum surround
THE CLOCK IS TICKING
Harrison got to his cabin in no time, Leo and Vince awaiting his arrival at the entrance of the cabin.“Mr Harrison, welcome back” Leo greeted taking off Harrison's coat.“Did the meeting go well? Where's Axel?” Vince asked looking around for Axel.Harrison grabbed Vince by his collar lifting him up, his eyes glowed crimson, his grip tightening around Vince's collar.“Harrison, Harrison, let him go you're going to kill him” Leo cried out, his voice trembling as he held my arm urging him to stop.Vince continued struggling, gasping for air as Harrison's hand tightened around his neck. His eyes drifting close as he was slowly loosing consciousness.“Harrison Stop!” Leo yelled out, his voice a flood of wave tossing Harrison into the wall as he fell to the ground and Vince falling to the ground coughing, trying to catch his breath.Leo covered his mouth out of fear what he just did, he wondered what had just happened.Vince crawled up from the floor sitting up, looking at Leo strangely.
THE WAREHOUSE
Staying to fight the founding families wasn't going to be an easy feat for Axel, because he hadn't gotten to understand what his powers really are and that to the founding families is an advantage he doesn't currently have. He looked over his shoulders, the fiery wings that emerged out of his back, his mother that he never knew existed in his arms and the city blurring below as he flew past. His wings suddenly started flickering, dissipating into thin air like they were never his to keep. The wings gone before he even decided he wanted to land, his mother hadn't told him to stop yet. He tried to channel but all he kept getting was a flicker of Aevum.“Axel? what's happening?” “I don't know! It's like the wings decided to turn off themselves, I don't understand what's happening!” He shouted amidst the wind as they were dropping downwards from the sky. “Fuck! Brace yourself for impact!” They both held onto each other's arm as they dropped fifteen feet into the flat roof top of an a
The Weight of a Name
First light crept through the broken windows of the warehouse office, pale and gray, carrying the cold of early morning. Axel hadn't slept, he had spent the night watching the door, watching the windows, watching his mother breathe in shallow, uneven patterns against the wall. The fierce woman who had burst through Harrison's cabin door, who had fought Vince and Leo with supernatural strength, that woman seemed like a ghost now. What remained was someone tired, someone who was broken, someone who had spent fifteen years of her life running and never stopped. "We need to leave," Axel said, his voice rough from lack of sleep. "We can't stay here. This isn't our property, we need to leave before someone finds us."Mariette stirred, her eyes fluttering open. She blinked against the gray light, then let out a quiet laugh, dry and humorless."This is our property, Axel."He stared at her. "What?"She pushed herself up slowly, wincing as the movement pulled at her still-healing legs. The b
VINCE AND LEO
Vince drove the black sedan down a narrow gravel road, his knuckles white on the steering wheel, his eyes scanning the treeline with the patience of a man who had spent his whole life looking for trouble.Leo sat in the passenger seat, staring out the window. His reflection stared back at him pale, hollow-eyed, haunted. He hadn't slept. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw Harrison's body flying across the room. He saw the blue flame, the look on Harrison's face when his voice had thrown him like a ragdoll. He had done that, he had hurt his boss. The man who paid him, fed him, kept him alive."You're quiet," Vince said, not looking at him. "That's never good."Leo didn't respond.Vince snorted. "Still thinking about last night? Get over it, Harrison's fine. You're fine. Everyone's fine.""I almost killed him.""You didn't though, that's what matters."Leo turned to look at Vince. "That's not what matters. What matters is that I have something inside me. Something I didn't ask for.
Council Fallout
The private study was small, windowless, and suffocating. Damian Falcone sat behind a heavy oak desk, his fingers steepled in front of him. His red Aevum flickered beneath his skin like a warning light. Luciana Beaufort paced the length of the room, her green flame crackling at her fingertips, leaving scorch marks on the floor. Julian Marlowe leaned against the wall, arms crossed, his purple Aevum barely visible, held in check by sheer will.No one spoke for a long moment. Then Luciana stopped pacing and slammed her palm against the desk. The wood splintered."We should have killed him," she hissed. "Harrison, right there, in that moment. We should have ended him and been done with it.""He had rogues, Luciana," Damian said, his voice cold and measured. "Dozens of them. We were outnumbered. Outmatched. Killing him would have meant dying ourselves.""Then we should have died trying.""That's the problem with you Beauforts, always so dramatic. Dying doesn't solve anything. Living and pl
TRAINING BEGINS
Axel sat cross-legged on the ground, his back against the wall, watching his mother move slowly around the room. She was gathering things like a piece of chalk, a small mirror, a candle that had seen better days."What are you doing?" he asked.Mariette didn't look up. "Setting up a training space. You can't learn to control the Aevum in chaos. You need structure, focus and Intent."Axel shifted uncomfortably. "I don't even know what I'm supposed to be focusing on.""That's exactly what we're going to fix."She knelt down in front of him and drew a circle on the floor with the chalk. Inside the circle, she drew five smaller shapes, a triangle, a square, a diamond, a crescent, and a star. Each one was positioned at a different point around the circumference."Sit in the center," she said.Axel hesitated, then moved into the circle. Mariette sat across from him, just outside the circle. Her eyes were calm, focused. "Close your eyes," she said.He obeyed."Now, tell me what you feel."A
SMALL VICTORY
They took off running for hours until they came to the end of the estate where another warehouse stood. Mariette scoured the area before they settled, making fire to keep them both warm.“What the fuck were we running from?” Axel demanded, seething with anger, breathing hard.“We will talk about this later, not right now.” Mariette replied, gathering sticks without looking at him.“I demand answers! What were we running from?!” He yelled loudly, his hands curled into a fist, his blue Aevum burning violently around his fist without control.Mariette walked up to him, held one of his hands, and placed her thumb on his forehead. “You need to calm down.” Axel fell to the ground, his eyes shut close as his Aevum disappeared completely from his fist. Mariette had knocked him out by pulling a muscle nerve that would knock him out completely and wipe out the memory of what they were running from. She planted an illusion in his head that they had both walked to this new spot for better shelte
SOMETHING MORE
"That was incredible," Mariette said. "Do you know how long it took me to sustain a flame like that? Weeks. You did it in two days."Axel shook his head, still dazed. "I don't even know how I did it. I just... stopped thinking. And it was there.""That's the secret," Mariette said. "The Aevum doesn't respond to your efforts, It responds to surrender, to trust. You've been fighting yourself this whole time and now you've finally let go."Axel looked at his hand, his palm was warm, but not burned. The skin was unmarked. It was like the flame had never been there at all."I never thought I could do something like this," he said quietly. "I never thought I was capable of anything."Mariette reached out and took his hand. "You're capable of so much more than you know. You've always been capable, you just needed someone to show you."Axel looked at her. His mother. The woman who had abandoned him, searched for him, found him, and was currently teaching him. He still didn't fully understand
