The Treasure Everyone Seeks
Rong Tian slowly turned the teacup between his fingers. At the Xuefeng Tribe’s table, the tightly braided man leaned toward the person beside him and whispered something. His companion did not move. Only his eyes shifted toward Rong Tian’s table before returning to the front. Qi Yu noticed the exchange. “It seems the competition for the Black Bat King’s treasure will be much more difficult than I expected,” she murmured. She looked at Rong Tian differently from the way she had looked at him on the street. “If you remain in this city, you will eventually be forced to choose a side.” Rong Tian lifted his teacup but did not drink. “I have never chosen sides.” “Then every side will treat you as a target.” Qi Yu&rsqu
The Test at the Restaurant Gate
A soft rush of air passed through the entrance. The temperature seemed to drop as Qi Yu’s whip moved. Crack! Crack! The weapon twisted through the air like a hungry serpent. Its serrated tip moved with great precision toward an acupuncture point on the neck of one guard. At the same time, Qi Yu raised her left hand. A thin stream of black smoke flowed from her palm and formed a dark shadow shaped like a human blade. It rushed toward the second guard, aiming to enter his lungs. Qi Yu did not attack because she was angry with them. She wanted to discover how quickly the people inside the restaurant would react and how dangerous the hidden figures within might be. Her attack was a question delivered in a form that could not be ignored. “Mercy!” “Please!&rd
The Hidden Expert Inside
The guests who had rushed out of the main hall gathered near the courtyard and the stone steps. They looked around for the source of the loud sounds, but found nothing that resembled an explosion. There was no smoke, no smell of burning powder, and no damaged wall. All they saw was a gloomy young woman with a whip and a pale, handsome young man standing beside her. The two guards remained bent low near the entrance. They did not dare look at Qi Yu. “Please spare us,” one of them repeated. “We will not stop you again.” Qi Yu did not respond. She was still thinking about the talismans that had blocked her attacks. The hidden expert had reacted immediately. The response had been neither hurried nor excessive. Whoever had acted understood the exact amount of force needed to neutralize her technique
The Heir Who Already Holds the Treasure
“You are surprised, are you not, little brother? Even if you do not come from the martial world, you must know who the Black Bat King was.” Qi Yu spoke with obvious pride. Her eyes shone with the satisfaction of someone who believed she had just proven that she understood far more than the person sitting before her. “As the leader of demonic cultivators hundreds of years ago, the Black Bat King was feared and respected throughout the martial world,” she continued. “It is no surprise that people outside Jianghu have also heard his name.” “Of course,” Rong Tian replied in the tone of an impressed scholar. “Even children in small towns know that name. It has become the kind of story people no longer think to question.” Qi Yu nodded with satisfaction, failing to notice the second meaning behind his words. Rong Tian remained
A Map of the Hadarac Desert
“Then we can leave immediately,” Qi Yu said with sudden enthusiasm. “You can come with me now. We need to buy a map of the Hadarac Desert.” Rong Tian nodded without allowing any reaction to appear on his face. A map of the Hadarac Desert. The location on such a map would have little connection to the place where the Black Bat King’s true inheritance had actually been hidden. Even so, watching people buy directions toward the wrong destination might reveal who had created the rumor and how widely the false information had spread. Qi Yu rose from her seat and prepared to leave. Before turning away, her gaze remained on Rong Tian for one second longer than usual. Perhaps she had noticed how calmly he stood after being invited into a dangerous hunt. Perhaps she had begun wondering why his eyes never showed the degree of surprise expe
The Listening Talisman
Qi Yu walked proudly past the Xuefeng Tribe’s table. She raised her head and carried herself with deliberate confidence, as though she wanted the northern cultivators to recognize that she possessed both wealth and status. Among the ten members of the Xuefeng group was a woman whose face was pale as a winter moon. Her lips were painted a shade of red so dark that it was nearly black, giving her appearance something cold and unfamiliar. The woman looked at Qi Yu, pursed her lips, and gave a quiet snort. “Shameless,” she said. “Trying to attract the attention of the young men of our Xuefeng Tribe. Why do you not visit the market and buy yourself a mirror and some powder?” Her meaning was obvious. She believed Qi Yu was ugly and too unaware of herself to realize that her display would not impress any of the Xuefeng men.
The Map Shop in the Eastern Market
Rong Tian followed Qi Yu through the streets of Biratama City toward the Eastern Market, a district where almost anything could be found. The day had already reached late afternoon, but the market remained crowded. Merchants shouted from both sides of the road, advertising cloth, herbs, tools, weapons, and food. Buyers answered just as loudly while bargaining over every coin. The smell of cooked food filled the air. Vendors offered steamed buns stuffed with meat, bowls of noodles, dumpling soup, and fried cakes. The scent of warm bread and rich broth caught Rong Tian’s attention, and he slowed as he looked toward one of the food stalls. “Younger Brother Rong.” Qi Yu’s voice came from several steps ahead. She did not turn around. “If you stop every time you smell food, we will reach the market near midnight.&r
Following the Trap
Rong Tian walked half a step behind Qi Yu while the afternoon streets grew increasingly crowded.Merchants and festival visitors moved in every direction. Among them, he noticed three people in travel clothes standing far too still to be resting. One of them held a rolled sheet of paper. Its size and shape were familiar.Another newly purchased map.The person kept the scroll close to his body and glanced repeatedly at the people passing nearby, as though afraid someone might discover what he carried.Rong Tian looked away before attracting attention.“So let us follow this game,” he thought.Outwardly, he still appeared to be a scholar following Qi Yu out of curiosity.Inside, his thoughts had already taken a completely different direction.Someone had constructed an enormous trap.First, that person spread information about the Black Bat King’s inheritance. Then maps were distributed throughout the city, directing cultivators from every faction toward the same false location. The pu
Disguised as Righteous Cultivators
Qi Yu’s laughter echoed through the nearly empty street. She waved one hand as though she had decided to overlook Rong Tian’s reply. “Do you not own a mirror?” she asked. “Look at your pale face and thin body. You resemble a demonic cultivator far more than a scholar.” Her eyes gleamed with amusement that was not entirely harmless. “Still, you do not need to worry,” she continued, lowering her voice. “The moment a true expert examines your empty dantian, no one will believe you are a cultivator. You are only a scholar pretending to look like a frightening demon.” Rong Tian laughed with her. His laughter, however, carried more relief than amusement. Qi Yu could not detect his cultivation at all. His concealment remained intact. The moon ha
The Arrogant Clothing Shop Owner
Master Fang allowed the silence to stretch. The corner of his mouth rose a little higher as he looked at Qi Yu. “Our customers are nobles and educated gentlemen,” he continued. “It is only natural that some people find our prices too high.” He did not name the person he meant. The way his gaze settled on Qi Yu made the meaning obvious. “You are completely right, Master,” Xiao Fen called from the corner in an excessively sweet and agreeable voice. “Master Fang’s customers usually arrive in sedan chairs. They do not walk into the shop late at night.” She glanced at Qi Yu. “And they certainly do not need to ask the price twice.” Dao turned toward the wall. His shoulders moved as he tried to contain his laughter. Ro
