Coming Home to Irene
The sun had fully risen, its warm rays brightening everything around. Rhys Road was now bustling with traffic, pedestrians, and the endless sounds of a city beginning another day. Everyone was going about their usual business.Hawthorne kept driving the van, his heart filled with excitement as he headed to meet Irene. This time, people walking along the road noticed him through the van's window. They couldn't believe what they were seeing. Whispers immediately spread through the crowd.“Isn't that our War God?”“So the news was false.”“Wait... am I dreaming?”“So he's still alive...”People kept whispering, pointing at the moving van in shock, surprise, and disbelief. Some stood frozen with their mouths hanging open. Others rubbed their eyes with the backs of their hands to make sure they weren't imagining things. One of the onlookers slowly shook his head and whispered. “Unbelievable...”Hawthorne and his surviving legions noticed the reactions of the people but paid them no attenti
Where is Irene?
Within minutes… Hawthorne was already standing in front of his modest bungalow, with his surviving legions standing behind him like guards. Pablo and Kodak towered over him, while Truman was of average height, just like him. Hawthorne pressed the doorbell. DING DONG! DING DONG! There was no response from inside. He wondered if Irene hadn't heard the doorbell or perhaps she was sleeping. He pressed it again. DING DONG! DING DONG! Still, there was no response. Hawthorne slowly turned toward his surviving legions and calmly said, “I think my wife isn't around. Maybe she left for work because she's the CEO of a boutique empire named Darl’s Fashion Enterprise. In fact, she's probably always busy.” The three men nodded. Him and the others turned and noticed people watching them through their windows. Some had their mouths hanging open, while others were murmuring among themselves. They turned back, ignoring the people watching them. Hawthorne assumed such reaction
Mr Raymond's Dilemma
As Mr. Raymond turned in the direction of the familiar voice, he saw Hawthorne—the man everyone had believed was dead—accompanied by a few unknown, strange, and imposing-looking men. He froze. Shock, surprise, and disbelief swept through him. Goosebumps quickly covered his entire body as his mouth fell open. He raised the back of his right hand and rubbed his eyes, just to make sure he was seeing correctly. Then he whispered in deep shock. “Who am I seeing?” “Hope I'm not dreaming…” “I thought he was truly dead.” “Oh my God.” He remained standing in the same position, staring at Hawthorne and his surviving legions. His mouth was still hanging open. His longtime friend was actually alive. The joy he felt was impossible to explain, yet it was mixed with overwhelming shock. Hawthorne noticed the shock written all over Raymond's face and wondered what was actually wrong. Maybe it was because he had not been around for so long. Perhaps Raymond was simply thrilled to see
Mr Raymond Breaks His Silence
Hawthorne was still waiting for Mr Raymond to respond. Still seeing the confusion and hesitation on his face. He calmly asked, “Why are you wasting so much time?” Mr. Raymond, still caught in the dilemma, finally spoke, “I’m sorry, but I can’t expose the mastermind before I bring a problem upon myself, which might even cost me my life.” Hawthorne already knows that it was Rowan who was frightening Raymond. Rowan was now the Major General, meaning he had enough power and influence to do almost anything. He calmly encouraged Mr. Raymond and firmly tapped his shoulder, “Boldly say his name. Nothing will happen to you. I’m on your side. Once you have someone like me beside you, you have nothing to worry about.” He lowered his voice, speaking with absolute assurance, “For whoever took over my position, that doesn’t mean I’m weak or that I no longer have the strength to fight and defend anyone. Open up. Don’t be afraid. I’m still the same Hawthorne Storm you’ve known from day one—t
Determined to Investigate
Mr. Raymond thought for a moment, trying to recall Irene's whereabouts before answering Hawthorne. This time, his face was brighter than before. After thinking for a little while, he finally spoke. “Your wife, Irene, has fully moved out. She has been away since last three weeks, and I and the other residents living around here have no idea where she went or even where she traveled to, to tell you the truth.” Hawthorne became shocked. He stood there, deeply wondering where his beloved wife could have gone. It was strange to him that she had not returned by this late hour as she usually did. Something must have been wrong, and Mr. Raymond had now revealed the truth—she was no longer around. He questioned him in disbelief. “Do you mean that you don't really know where she is, and no one living around here knows anything about her whereabouts?” Mr. Raymond nodded and replied. “Of course. We don't really know where she went. I'm being sincere, and there's no way I would lie to y
No One Knows Tomorrow
Mr. Raymond asked him, “Where’s your phone? Since you have no idea where your wife is, I think you should have called her to find out her whereabouts.” Hawthorne remembered his fight with Behemoth, which had caused him to lose his phone in the process. The beast had forcefully torn away his trousers, along with his singlet and shirt, and his phone had been inside the pocket of the trousers that were ripped away. He fell into deep thought. He decided to keep the whole incident that had caused him to lose his phone to himself for now. Everything was not meant to be exposed publicly. However, he planned to tell Mr. Raymond and his surviving legions about what he had gone through during his absence once they were in a secure place. Mr. Raymond was especially important because of how close they had been for years. It would not make sense to keep such a serious matter from him forever. He also intended to tell his surviving legions. But for now, there was no time to begin
On The Search for Irene
The next morning.. Hawthorne woke with only one thought in his mind, Irene's whereabouts. He opened his eyes and slowly sat up. The apartment was quiet, but the surviving legions were already beginning to move around the room. Their appearance reminded him that they had not properly cleaned themselves since. Pablo looked down at his clothes and frowned, “We seriously need to find somewhere to clean up.” Kodak rubbed his face and sighed. “I agree. We cannot walk around looking like this.” Truman glanced at Hawthorne. “Especially our leader. He has been through even more than us.” Hawthorne looked at his own body. He had not seen proper water since the invasion battle with Esturis, the fight with Behemoth, and the terrible period that followed when he was imprisoned. Even during their years in prison, Pablo, Kodak, and Truman had at least been able to take baths inside the prison. “We need a bathroom,” Hawthorne said firmly. “Let’s look around.” They searched through th
The Pending Answer
Hawthorne kept his eyes on the road, but every passing second made the need to find Irene feel heavier inside his chest. The van was now moving along Meadow Road, a moderate and relatively quiet part of the city filled with high schools and colleges. Morning sunlight spread across the buildings, reflecting from classroom windows and the windshields of passing cars. Pablo was behind the wheel, while Kodak and Truman sat nearby, their freshly washed faces and clean clothes making them almost unrecognizable compared with the wild, exhausted men who had walked out of prison.“Pablo,” Hawthorne said, looking through the windshield, “keep driving. I’ll direct you as we get closer to the location. Irene.”Pablo nodded. “Understood, leader.”Kodak pulled at the shirt Raymond had given him and frowned. “I still don't like this shirt.”Pablo glanced at him and laughed. “You should be grateful it survived this long.”“Easy for you to say,” Kodak replied. “Look at the sleeves. They are fighting
The Truth About to be Found
Kodak quickly raised both hands in surrender. “King, please forgive me for wasting your time. I was carried away by the scene of the bustling road.”Hawthorne looked at him calmly. There was no anger in his eyes. “Don't bother yourself. I already know. I saw how you were carried away watching everything outside.”Kodak nodded respectfully. “No problem, King. Thanks for understanding. Straight to the answer, I'm from our beloved nation, Armogur.”He was about to continue when Hawthorne calmly stopped him. “Hold on. I've already received your answer. One after the other. You'll continue from where you stopped later. Let me know Pablo's country of origin also.”Hawthorne turned his attention toward Pablo, who remained focused on the road. His hands were firmly placed on the steering wheel as he carefully navigated through the busy traffic.“It's now your turn, Pablo.”Pablo immediately lowered his head slightly while keeping his eyes on the road. “King, please forgive both Kodak and me f
Stop Right There!
Minutes later....Darls Boutique Enterprise finally came into view, and Hawthorne's heart began beating faster with a mixture of excitement and uncertainty about whether Irene was there.“Pablo, park the van beside the car parks behind the boutique,” he commanded.“Yes, my boss,” Pablo replied immediately. The van turned into the rear parking area and came to a smooth stop. Hawthorne pushed the door open and stepped down, followed by Pablo, Kodak, and Truman. For a few seconds, the four men simply stood there, staring at the massive luxury boutique before them.Darls Boutique Enterprise looked even grander than Hawthorne remembered. The entire building was decorated with beautiful gold and purple designs that reflected the morning sunlight. Bright neon lights displayed the boutique's name across the upper section of the building, making it impossible for anyone passing by to miss it. Through the huge glass walls, customers could be seen moving from one section to another while worker
