CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE “I don’t like the way the windows are,” she said with a squeezed face, and then she irked and walked slowly, following behind Ciro who was walking really fast to catch up with Sarah. “He didn’t even think to check if I got out of the car safely,” Catherine grumbled again, as she fastened her steps to catch up with him. Ciro soon caught up with Sarah who had slowed down a bit as soon as she got into the main hall of the mansion, she turned slightly, and the moment she saw Ciro a few steps behind her, she smiled at him. Ciro returned the smile, even though he wasn’t sure why she was smiling at him. “Wait for me, you guys.” Catherine's voice echoed softly from the back, causing them to turn to see her walking briskly toward them. “Ciro, do you want me to get lost? Can’t you see that this place is like a maze?” she said as soon as she got close to Ciro, and then she grabbed his right arm firmly and held onto it. “Don’t leave me again, promise?” “I promise,” Ciro

CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO Sarah’s utterance was met by a long period of silence, as there was a sudden disbelief in the eyes of everyone close to her, Kelvin didn’t seem as surprised as his parents, like he had been expecting it to happen someday. “Honey, do you mean Marcos? Are you sure of what you are saying?” Sarah gasped, and then she leaned forward and looked at her mother in disbelief, she couldn’t believe that she could ask her that type of question, while she was still trying to be sure of the right response she was to give to her, her father spoke. “Yes Sarah are you really sure of what you are saying, Marcos would never do anything to hurt you, there must be a mixup somewhere.” “Even you, father?” Sarah exclaimed, the sensation of uttermost disappointment running into her body as she looked at her parents, one after the other, with her mouth agape, and her eyes widened in disbelief. “Please don't misunderstand us, Honey, we are just surprised that you would even think to say

CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE Mr. Jones was silent for a while, he bent his face without making any other movement. “Dad?” Sarah called out, but her father didn’t say a word. “Say something Dad, you can’t just be quiet, mum?” Kelvin said, feeling so anxious to know what was really going on with his parents. But just like his father, his mother bent her face almost at the same time he turned to face her. Sarah was upset, she could no longer hide it, and the truth of the matter was that she remembered everything she had to pass through at the hands of Marcos, she was thankful that Ciro was around to save her from his hands. “If you guys don’t tell me what is going on right now, I am going to walk out of this house and I am never gonna come back!” “Oh no Sarah, please don’t go.” “Then tell me what is going on Mum, else I will leave.” “Fine, we will talk.” “We are listening, mum,” Kelvin said, very much anxious just like his sister who was so livid that she was prepared to carry out her

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR “Sarah is right Mum, we need some explanation, and we need it right now,” Kelvin added, almost immediately after his sister had spoken. “Honey? Please come and have a seat.” Maya said to her husband, who felt like his valor had left him. “Please come and sit.” Maya urged again with a soft tone, looking at her husband with so much pity and pain. After a few seconds, Mr. Jones walked toward the chair and sat down slowly, while his wife drew closer to him and caressed his left fingers, while their children waited anxiously for them to speak. “Are you ok?” Maya asked her husband, but she certainly wasn’t asking the right question, as he looked at her for a few seconds and exhaled sharply with a countenance that answered the question. “You need to speak to them,” Maya said to her husband, in a very low tone, which was a little above a whisper. Mr. Jones knew that there was no way he was going to run away from the discussion, so he braced himself to bear the conse

CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE Sarah was furious, she couldn't believe the words that came out of her father’s mouth, even her siblings were shocked as well. “Mum? Did you know about this?” Maya bent her face at her daughter’s words, not sure of what response to give, but the guilt on her face was enough to tell she knew about it. “I can’t believe this!” “I am sorry Sarah, I had to.” “No Dad, you didn’t have to! You didn’t have to use me as collateral, just to fund the family business! I am not some piece of property that you can trade like that. I am a grown woman, and I should be able to make such decisions myself.” “I know Sarah, I know, but my hands were tired, I couldn’t let the family legacy go down the drain, I wasn’t thinking straight, and when Mr. Reynolds brought up the idea, I accepted immediately.” “Please listen to your father Sarah, I am sure he didn’t mean to throw you off like that.” “Well mum, maybe you should go marry him, after all, your husband agreed to all of this.

CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX Jane drew closer with two steps forward and standing between her siblings, she looked at her parents one after the other, and then she exclaimed sharply, perusing through the thoughts in her mind. “Three billion?” She asked, with every form of doubt, both in her voice and in her countenance. Sarah turned to look at Jane with an expression that showed that she didn’t think that it was possible for them to owe that kind of amount, but when she turned to look at her father, the look she saw in his eyes said otherwise. “Dad? She is wrong, right?” she asked, but Mr. Jones didn’t blink, and as Unexpectedly, his countenance didn’t show that Jane was wrong. “Talk to me, Dad, how much is it?” Mr. Jones looked at Sarah for a while, and then he took in enough air and exhaled sharply. “Jane is right, that’s the figure.” His children widened their eyes in disbelief, they didn’t think they heard it right, or probably he was joking, but the look on his face said otherwise

CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN Meanwhile, Catherine and Ciro had been sitting on the couch in the living room for over an hour, and they were beginning to get impatient. Catherine particularly lost any other prudence in her to wait. “How could she leave us here for over an hour? Does she know who you are?” “Calm down Catherine, I am sure she will come to get us,” Ciro said he could do anything just to get the Herb for his sister’s cure, even if it meant waiting for an extra hour. Catherine scoffed in annoyance, and then she sighed and stood up from the couch, pacing from one corner to the other. “She brings us here and keeps us waiting like we are her slaves, thinking the whole world revolves around her, huh?” Catherine mumbled, but that wasn’t enough to make her stop her pacing around. “I wonder what he even sees in her, what is so special about her?” Catherine asked herself again, and while she turned around to look at Ciro whose eyes were glued on his phone, her eyes caught sight of th

CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT Catherine scoffed loudly, and then she groaned with the same tone as well, resuming her patrol around the living room. “He is my best friend, and there is nothing she can do about it. Yes, I know him, I know everything about him. I know his best food, his favorite color, his favorite sport, his favorite book, and the best places he likes to be. I know everything about him!” Catherine tried to build her confidence, but the more she tried, the more she failed, and this made her groan angrily in intense frustration. Ciro helped Sarah to sit on one of the Couches in the lobby, and when he was certain that she had gotten a grip on herself, he proceeded to find out what was wrong with her. “Sarah? What happened? Why are you so sad?” “I can’t believe that my father used me as collateral for the company, I feel like I am some property sold in exchange for money!” Ciro thought about the words Sarah uttered, but he couldn’t understand any of them, and this made him t

CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE “Huh?” Sarahs’s brows furrowed, and her eyes widened to the words that Ciro spoke. “Yeah, I think I might be able to help with your little problem.”“It’s not a little problem Ciro, it’s a very huge problem, a lot of money is involved here.” “Yeah, right. But that really doesn’t matter right now, what matters is that we get to resolve this issue.” Sarah stared at Ciro for a few seconds, but she couldn’t understand why he was so calm about the entire situation, only the amount involved was enough to make her heart race. “How do you intend to help Ciro?” She asked reluctantly, still wondering what he was driving at. “Good, I like the spirit. I hope your father is going to like it though.” “My father? Like it?” “Yeah, he may not find it really easy to accept, but it’s going to be better than nothing,” Ciro said with a smile on his face, causing Sarah to want to know more. “Okay? What is it? Tell me.” “Very well,” Ciro said with a low tone, and then he cleare

CHAPTER FORTY “What?” Sarah gasped, scoffing almost at the same time, while she glued her eyes on Ciro, in awe. “Yes, you don’t have to pay me back, not even a dime.” Sarah thought about the entire situation, and nothing seemed right about it, she didn’t think it was right for her to accept such a huge favor, she felt it could come with a lot of trouble, just like the previous one from Marcos and his father. “I don’t think you really do understand the amount of money involved here, Ciro. We are talking about one freaking billion dollars.” “Yes, I figured, I am not so bad with numbers you know?” “No Ciro, no. I don’t want to sound ungrateful, but I can’t accept that kind of money from you, at least not for free. This kind of gesture normally comes with a huge price, and I don’t think I am willing to be in that situation again.” Ciro chuckled, and then he looked at Sarah for a few seconds, and then he scoffed loudly. “I am sorry Ciro, but there is no way I am going to accept tha
