Chapter twenty-one
A man who was blindfolded suddenly appeared in front of Yung, blocking his path."Do not attack him," the man ordered."But... why, Holy Father?" Yung asked, confused."I want to see something," the man replied calmly. "No elder is allowed to attack him!""Why are you getting involved, William?" Duncan asked, a deep frown on his face."Do you not possess shame? Allowing an elder to attack a child? Where is your honor and dignity as a Holy Father?""But he's a spy!" Duncan was shouting at this point."You have no proof of that. You only know about his torture and near-death, so how is that evidence of him being a spy sent to infiltrate our sect?""......" Duncan wanted to say something, but he had no retort."No elders are permitted to attack the boy." William's voice rang close to the ear of every elder, almost as if he were standing beside them. The words echoed through the hall, reaching every elder present."Holy Father, what about our disciples?" Shekini asked carefully. Her voice

The nightmare had come for her again, the same one that made her feel helpless inside, a small insignificant human at the mercy of something unnatural."I am trapped in this place and can't escape!"The words tore from her throat, raw and desperate. Behind her, the thing moved with unnatural patience. Its hand, with long jointed fingers that looked almost human but ended in jagged black claws, slowly settled on her shoulder. The touch was cold, heavier than a block of ice, and it sank through her clothes straight into her skin like frostbite burrowing deep. The ground beneath her feet fractured with a sickening wet crack, as if bones were breaking. Black veins webbed outward. Darkness surged upward from the fissures like thick oily smoke that smelled of rot and burnt flesh. It coiled around her ankles first, then her calves, pulling with a gentle but irresistible force. She screamed as the darkness began eating her flesh piece by piece. Her toes dissolved into shadow, then her feet. T
Chapter twenty-three
Some time had passed since his conversation with Sabine. Vandal had spent long hours meditating and had finally stabilized his Stage Three Resonance. Matron Clara had offered to teach him basic fighting techniques. He had almost declined, but something in him accepted. He was glad he did. The complex punching arts hidden in his mind were powerful, yet they would take weeks or even months to master properly.Matron Clara’s straightforward lessons gave him a solid foundation and helped the ancient techniques click faster. He absorbed every lesson like a sponge. Sweat dripped down his face as he repeated the forms again and again under the afternoon sun. His muscles burned, but with each repetition the movements grew smoother, more instinctive.Sabine often came to keep him company. During breaks they sat together, trading silly jokes and lighthearted stories. For the first time since arriving in this world, a quiet warmth settled in Vandal’s chest, a small but genuine sense of happiness
Chapter twenty-four
Vandal pretended not to see the knife Jaeden had sneaked into his palm. Instead, he caught the punch with his open hand before it could reach his chest, smiling widely at the same time.“Let go of my hand.”“I said let go of my hand… now,” he commanded with the authority of a senior addressing a junior. Jaeden tried to pull his hand away, but it was as if he were stuck to a magnet. He couldn’t break free from the grip.Still smiling, Vandal squeezed Jaeden’s clenched fist.“Aaaaaaaagh!” Jaeden screamed in pain. He could hear the sound of his finger bones breaking under the pressure, sharp pain tearing through his palm. He immediately tried to pull his hand away, but Vandal refused to let go, squeezing harder and eliciting more cries of agony.Gasps of shock echoed from the surrounding sect disciples watching the spectacle. None of them had expected the boy to reveal such a side, nor had they imagined Jaeden would fail to hurt him and instead be injured himself.“Let go of me! You bast
Chapter twenty-five
“So I heard you are quite the restless one,” Hutrar said with a small smile. “From beating up guards to walking around with Sabine as if she is your arm candy. Have you no shame for misleading such a clueless girl?”“I’m not a deceitful person, and I don’t mislead anyone,” Vandal replied. “Are you going to attack, or should I?”Vandal could feel a hot and oppressive aura radiating from Hutrar, like standing too close to a roaring flame. He did not care. He had trained for this moment, and he refused to let fear weaken his body.“I will go easy on you because I respect Matron Clara,” Hutrar said in a matter-of-fact tone. “I will not beat you to death.”“Quite a tone you have there,” Vandal shot back. “Since you like to talk so much, let me show you who is really going to go easy on who.”Vandal stopped talking and attacked instantly. With blinding speed, he closed the distance in the blink of an eye. He spun his body and whipped a powerful kick toward Hutrar’s face.“Hmph.”Hutrar snor

What she saw was brutality given form.A relentless flurry of punches tore into flesh and shattered bone.Vandal laughed, pure joy plastered across his face. His clothes had burned away in the flames, yet his skin remained unmarked. His fists hammered down on Hutrar’s face again and again, as if he had discovered the most delightful toy in the world.Blood sprayed across his cheeks and forehead with every strike. His laughter rang out wild and unrestrained. The flames around them finally flickered out, leaving the podium to witness the same horror she had seen: a boy straddling his opponent, smashing his fists into a ruined skull, and drinking in every groan and muffled cry. Hutrar’s flaming towering frame had shrunk back down to his regular body.“Impossible! How is this happening?” Duncan shouted, eyes bulging. “Hutrar is at stage seven resonance and possesses a berserk form! This brat is only stage three!”“This… this boy is terrifying,” Williams whispered, his voice barely audible
Chapter twenty-seven
Vandal stood beside Grand Elder Williams with his new enforcer cloak draped over his shoulders. He scanned the crowd slowly, taking in every face. Sabine beamed openly, her eyes bright with pride that she made no effort to hide. Matron Clara stood nearby and fought to keep her features blank, yet the corners of her mouth kept twitching upward in quiet satisfaction no matter how hard she pressed her lips together.“Now, I want all the enforcers to come out and congratulate your new brother,” Williams announced, his voice ringing across the hall.He leaned down and spoke quietly to Vandal. “From this moment on, you will only answer to your code name during missions. Never your real name. Do you understand?”“I understand, Holy Father,” Vandal replied with an amiable smile.“Alright, get yourself acquainted with your teammates. We will be seeing one another again soon enough,” Father Williams said before he stepped back.Three figures emerged from the enforcer section, each cloak unique
Chapter twenty-eight
“You bastard! You dared to use underhanded methods to nearly kill me and now you have the audacity to join the enforcers!” the broad-shouldered youth snarled. “You have no virtue and no abilities. That is why you kept rushing me like a coward.”“Hutrar, shut up!” Sabine stepped forward, her voice rising. “I literally had to beg him to stop hitting you or you would have died!”Vandal gently pulled Sabine behind him. A calm smile touched his lips as he stared straight at Hutrar. “Let him finish. What do you want to do about it? Yes, I am now a member of the enforcers. So what?”“You lost fair and square,” Vandal continued, his tone steady. “And you tried to kill me first. You literally tried to fry me with your flames.”“You are not worthy to join the enforcers!” Hutrar bellowed.Jaden stepped in beside him, his voice dripping with poison. “Hutrar is right. You are not worthy. The test clearly showed you have no proper resonance energy and your talent is tier zero.”Jaden swept his gaze
Chapter twenty-nine
Elder Yung’s shadow fell across the polished floor before he did. Vandal felt Mael go very still beside him, a soldier’s stillness, the kind that meant pay attention, this matters. The elder’s right eye twitched the moment his gaze landed on Vandal. The memory of the boy once calling him useless flashed behind his eyes, and something in his jaw tightened at the sight of that same disciple now standing among the enforcers, the highest and most respected rank in the sect.“You will be protecting descendants of the holy fathers,” Yung said. No greeting. No preamble. “No harm comes to them. They seek to gain experience with this expedition and will meet you three days from now.”This annoying brat, Yung thought, holding Vandal’s gaze. I hope you die in this expedition.“And if the Resonance Council attacks us for being there?” Vandal asked before the elder could continue. “Are we allowed to kill them, or just die politely?”Yung’s water glass stopped halfway to his mouth.Behind him, one

"Shit... how did that bird hear me?"A bead of sweat slid down Vandal's spine, cold against his skin."Oh? No one wants to speak?" Elder Yung's voice cut through the hall, sharp as a blade."Elder, I don't think..." Mael began."Stay out of this, Mael." Yung didn't even look at him. "You know the rules of this sect. An insult to an elder is no small matter. If order crumbles in the smallest things, chaos will devour the greatest."Silence clamped down on the room."I want everyone to stand still.""Proud," Yung called, tilting his head toward the black-feathered crow perched nearby. "Find the one who insulted me."Vandal's pulse spiked.*Proud? That ridiculous bird has a name?*His fingers twitched at his sides. Think. Think. I can't run. Not here...The crow lifted into the air with a harsh flap of wings, circling above them. Its dark eyes scanned the line, slow and deliberate, before it descended. It landed. It's claws gripping firmly onto Sabine's shoulder.Vandal's breath caught.
