Chapter 11
Leah wasn't sure why she was listening to Ivan. All she knew was that he was pretty convincing. She wanted to be home and try to reach Vincent, but she knew that wasn't a good idea. At least Ivan’s words had gotten to her.She dressed in shorts and a cute top.she stepped out with my Louis Vuitton bag and strap sandals, and found Ivan in the living room dressed in black. He turned around and his eyes widened“You look—”“Beautiful?”“Yeah, but young.”Leah frowned.“Are you saying I've always looked old?’“No, no of course not. You just always look so much larger than life.”Leah smiled. “Well, I am not. I'm just a twenty five year old.”“Yeah, you are. Let's go.”Leah followed.“Should we take my car?”“No, I have a better idea.” Ivan said, grabbing Leah's hand and taking her to the garage.‘Oh no.” Leah shook her head.“Come on. Do you want to have fun and make Vincent jealous or not?” Ivan asked. Leah smirked. “Well when you put it like that.”Leah hated motorcycles. She had no id

After dinner, Ivan took her to a club. Leah’s first impression of the club was small, but when they finally got in., she couldn’t help but take in the ambiance. It was striking. Music played from visible stereos unlike what she was used to.“Come. Let’s get drinks.” Ivan dragged her. She didn’t resist. They got to the bar, and a man with red dreads behind the bar smiled.“Sergio!” Ivan waved. The man looked up, and his eyes went wide like he had just seen a ghost.“My my, they told me you were back, but I didn’t believe it.” He said, rounding the counter and coming to hug him.Ivan’s eyes lit up. “God, man this place has changed, Hell, you’ve changed.”“So have you!”“You even got yourself a tattoo. What does Selene think of this?”Silence.“Um, Selene and I are divorced.”“What? You are joking.”“I wish I was man.”“What happened? You two were so in love. Maria and I looked up to you.” He said with a distraught voice.“Long story.” Ivan shrugged.“I’ve got time, and free drinks, plus
chapter 13
Ivan woke up to the loud sound of an alarm clock. Wherever it was, it wasn't his. The sound got louder, and louder like the warning bell of the apocalypse. He almost went insane looking for it. Why was it so fucking loud?! Then he found the device at the foot of his blanket, and turned it off. It was Leah’s phone. Memories of last night suddenly flooded his head. He winced at everything he had gotten up to last night, then he looked around and there was no one in sight. "Leah," he called out, dragging himself out of bed but there was no response. He walked to the bathroom, washed his face, and made his way to his mother’s room, but she was not there. Ivan instantly froze. Then he quickly ran to the living room to raise an alarm when he saw his mother seated next to Leah on the dining table playing a game of chess. He didn't even know that his mother could play Chess. He let out a breath of relief. “Hey, honey, you are finally awake.” Ivan’s mother, Grace smiled. “And y

“You are upset.” “Yes, Leah. I am upset that the power I thought was a gift sounds more like a curse than anything else.” “Its not a curse. Its just a bit of a hurdle. You’ll get used to it. I've invited someone who can help you. Teach you everything you need to know about honing your powers.” Ivan scoffed. Just then the door opened, and an even taller, and more muscular man walked in. “Silas.” Leah stood, and kissed him on his cheek. “You are looking absolutely handsome, cousin.” “Thank you. You don’t look so bad yourself.” Leah chuckled. “And you must be the lucky man,” Silas stretched his hand to Ivan who took it, and shook him. “Ivan, this is Silas, my cousin from my mothers’ side, and Silas, Ivan. My husband to be. “He is very handsome.” “Thanks, man.” “Nothing to thank me for. It’s the truth.” Ivan nodded. Silas was the opposite of Leah: loud and expressive. Tatted with dark brown eyes, and a handsome enough face to get the women flocking around him. “S

Ivan stepped into Leah’s bedroom an hour later. “Have a seat.” Leah pointed. “What's this about?” He asked. “Your mom and I had fun today. She's a sweet lady.” Ivan raised a suspicious brow. “I’m glad you did.” “Yes. Me too. She was of course worried about you and insisted I call you every single minute.” “As expected.” Ivan said, impatiently waiting for Leah to get to the point. ”She kept asking questions about me and my family. I lied to her, but she's a smart woman. I doubt she fully believed anything I said.” Ivan expected this. He couldn't say he didn't m, but he wished she'd asked him instead. “I think we should get her own place. Just to keep…” “No.” Ivan shook his head, standing up abruptly. ”Ivan, we have to. I know you're worried…” “Of course I'm worried. Not only was she almost killed just barely three days ago, she is sick. You think I'm going to leave her alone all by herself.” “That's not what I'm asking you. We will have security and a full staff with her
Chapter 16
As soon as Vincent was out of sight, Leah stepped away from Ivan. Her face was suddenly dry as if she never shed even a single tear. “Thank you, Ivan, but I thought I said don't come out?” “You did but I couldn't help but overhear you crying. Leah stared at him mortified. “Did you hear all our conversations?” “Most of it.” “I see.” Leah said without looking at him. She'd embarrassed herself to last an entire lifetime. An awkward silence stretched between them before Leah finally cleared her throat. “You really love him?” “Unfortunately.” She smiled sadly. “It makes no sense. He's hurting and I understand why he's so upset. I rubbed you in his face even though all of this was my fault.” Ivan stared at Leah in disbelief. “You do not actually believe that.” “I do. And I have actual reasons to believe so. You just don't get it.” What I don't understand is why you're blaming yourself for everything he said.” “You don't understand.” “Then explain it to me.” “We may be getting

Ivan put on the glasses, relieved to have something to hide his eyes with. He looked up at the man who had given them to him. “Who are you?” Ivan asked, studying him. He could barely see through the glasses. “It's Silas. Can't you see?!” “Not really.” Ivan squinted at him. “What are you doing here?” “I was on a date. A date you are absolutely ruining.” Silas gritted his teeth. “Why are you down here?” “I was taking an evening stroll.” “You can not be serious. Did you listen to anything I told you earlier. Anything at all?” “How do I make this shit stop?” “For one, you stay home!” Silas snapped. “I'm taking you back home right now. Also why didn't you take your fucking suppressants!” Shit. It was then Ivan realized that he'd forgotten to actually take them thanks to Vincent. “I forgot.” “You forgot? What do you mean you forgot? You know what, it doesn't matter, let's just go.” Silas sighed. “Wait here. I'll be back. I need to send my date home tha
Chapter 18
“You're worried.” Leah saod once they were both settled in the back of Leah’s Escalade.“Too much to be worried about.” “Your mom is going to be safe with my men.” “I don't doubt that, but I also need to know who had tried to kill us both three days ago.” Leah nodded. “I love how you love your mother. It's beautiful.” Ivan stared at Leah. There was something in her usually cool expression. Longing. Ivan pulled her close. She let him. “I'm sorry about your mother.” Leah smiled. “You have no reason to be.” “Do you want to talk about her?” Leah was quiet for a second before answering. “No. I don't think I want to.” Ivan nodded. Leah sat up straight . Ivan watched her. She was so beautiful, it was hard not to stare. Her green eyes were sharp and distant. Her lips were pouty and always looked ready to be kissed. Shit. Ivan needed to get his mind out of the gutter. “We will be going to dinner with the rest of my family tomorrow.” “Oh. That's nice. I didn't

“You look stiff.” Leah said as they stepped out o the car into a huge mansion that looked like it could fit at least 12 of his old house. “This is breathtaking.” He whispered before he could shut his mouth up. “It's been in my family for six generations.” “It shows.” “Let's go.” Leah smiled… “you'd love what is inside.” Ivan followed Leah. Taking in the final fountain in the middle of the compound with a terrazzo interlocking surrounding the outside of the fountain. There were a couple of trees scattered about the compound and well manicured shrubs place in a strategic square. The large French double doors opened, and waiting inside was a tall bald man wearing a black tux. “Mistress Leah. You're welcome.” The man said with a warm smile “Thank you, Jerry.” “You must be master Ivan Smith. Welcome.” The butler bowed a little. “Where is everybody?” She asked. “About to have breakfast.” Leah walked past him but not before touching his arm. Ivan followed. He gasped at how g

“You're welcome.” He said as he gave him a once over.Ivan stood stiff. He was looking down at the man, but somehow he felt like it was the opposite. His black obsidian eyes stared him down. His sharp features looked especially serious. The silence grew between them, and Ivan wondered if he was trying to psych him out.“So,” he finally said. This is the man your grandfather sent to replace me?”The man glanced at his daughter.“Father, please…” Leah begged. The man scoffed. And then gave a signal with his head. The lady pushing him resumed pushing and only stopped at the head of the table Both Leah and Ivan went back to their seats. The table quieted.“Let's say the grace, shall we?” Richard said.“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ…”Ivan looked between them. He was never particularly religious. Not because he had anything against religious people or religion itself. He just thought he was too much of a sinner to be worthy but the family of criminals didn't seem to think so of them
