Chapter 31: Diplomatic Choice
Two signed messages were waiting in the contact log before dawn.Riven read the senders first. Then he sent for Ilya.[Message — Marcus Veil][Content: Opens a limited trade lane. Offers one Epic-grade blueprint in exchange for Refined Ironscale Alloy x2. Asks for nothing else.][Message — Wei Lin Zhao][Content: Proposes a "joint defense understanding." Each Lord would share Horde formations and warning signals with the other. Requests a reply within the day.]Ilya arrived with her ledger already open. Riven slid both messages across the desk."Veil's offer first," he said. "Run it through the Trade Depot.""The Appraisal Core can read it directly now, my Lord."[Trade Depot — Offer Appraisal][Offer: Epic Blueprint for Refined Ironscale Alloy x
Chapter 32: Construction Push
By sunrise, the damage on the east wall was gone.Riven stood on the parapet and ran his hand along the new stone. Four percent of the wall had cracked the night before. Brynhild's crews had patched every inch of it before the first bell. The seam was almost invisible.Beyond the wall, the eastern ground looked different in daylight. Stakes marked the edges of the new housing district. Sera's field markers ran in neat rows beside them. Giants moved along the lines with timber on their shoulders. It was a good start. It was also a slow one.Riven turned from the wall and walked back toward the Hall. He had a decision to make, and he made it before he reached the door."Summon Brynhild and Ilya," he told the guard at the entrance. "Now."They arrived together. Brynhild still had stone dust on her sleeves. Ilya carried her ledger and a se
Chapter 33: Hero Relationship
A new line appeared on the morning panel before Riven finished his tea.[Hero Status — Update][Brynhild — Loyalty: 85% → 89%][Cause: Sustained delegated authority, no oversight conflicts recorded]Riven looked at the line and set the cup down. Giant loyalty did not move on kind words. It moved on what a Lord actually did.Elarys stood by the window, waiting for the morning summon to begin. She had seen the panel too. She said nothing about it. She never asked what a number meant when the Lord had already decided what to do with it."Summon Brynhild," Riven told the guard. "I want her here before she goes to the east district."Brynhild arrived with a rolled drawing under one arm and a smear of plaster on her cheek. She stopped inside the doorway when she saw both of them waiting.

Chapter 34: Sub-Space Expedition
Ilya was waiting outside the Hall when the morning summon began. She had the Shard research strip in one hand and a folded map in the other. She had clearly been up before the lamps were out."My Lord, the team found something in the recovered lines," she said. "It isn't the Dominion Core line. It's the two ledger fragments.""Come in."She laid the map across the desk. It was the System's survey of the Ashen Vault, the first Sub-Space Riven had claimed. The upper galleries were filled in. The Altar chamber was marked. Below it, the map simply ran out."The ledger fragments list three storage halls," Ilya said. "Each one has a depth marker beside it. Maelis compared the markers to the Vault's survey. Two of the halls match rooms we already know. The third is marked well below the Altar chamber.""And the survey doesn't show it."

Chapter 35: Ancient Defense
The Ashen Vault steps were cold at dawn.Riven went down them with Elarys at his shoulder, Torren behind her, and Hale's squad at the rear. The torchbearers walked ahead. The light slid across the old stone and made the cuts in it look deeper than they were.Past the Altar chamber, the lower galleries began. Maelis's drawing had called them a maze. In person they were a long, plain sequence of halls, each one lower than the last, each one older. The shelves in them were bare. The floors were swept clean by centuries of nothing."The cuts change here," Osk said quietly, walking beside the survey cart. "Rougher. Heavier hand. Whoever built these did it by eye.""Whoever built them meant them to last," Riven said."Yes, my Lord."They walked for another forty minutes. Nobody spoke much. Maelis marked the map as they went, and every few st
Chapter 36: Historical Record
Maelis had not slept in two days. It showed. He stood in front of the desk with a stack of wax tablets in his arms and dark rings under both eyes. Ilya stood at his shoulder, a half step behind, as though she expected to catch him if he swayed. The east vault door had been locked behind them. The two guards outside had not moved since dawn."Sit down," Riven said."My Lord, I'd rather stand." Maelis drew a breath. "If I sit, I'll fall asleep.""Then Ilya will bring you water, and you'll tell me what the tablets say." Riven nodded at the chair anyway. "That wasn't a suggestion."Maelis sat. Ilya poured a cup from the pitcher on the side table and put it into his hand. He drank it without seeming to notice.Elarys stood by the window, as she did during every summons that mattered. She did not speak."First pass is d
Chapter 37: Faction Reaction
Riven spent the first hour of the morning writing a rule.He wrote it by hand, on a clean sheet, with Ilya waiting across the desk. It was not a long rule. He crossed out two lines and rewrote them shorter. When he finished, he turned the sheet around.[Information Policy — Draft][Tier One — Open: Rankings, trade offers, Depot terms, construction progress. Anyone may know.][Tier Two — Shared: Findings that help allies and cost the territory nothing to reveal. Shared by Riven only, with named allies only.][Tier Three — Sealed: Locations, records, garrison numbers, Altar and Vault details, anything that identifies how the territory works. Never shared.]"Three tiers," Ilya said. "Simple.""Simple rules hold under pressure." Riven tapped the second line. "Tier Two is the one that matters. It'
Chapter 38: Strategic Reassessment
Riven began the morning with the ledger, the way he began most mornings now.Ilya had laid the week out in three columns. He went down them with one finger.[Territory Ledger — Weekly Summary][Gold In: 10,350 — Dungeons 4,640 / Hordes 4,500 / Trade 1,210][Gold Out: 6,800 — Construction 4,300 / Summons 1,400 / Trade 900 / Expedition 200][Net: +3,550][Dungeon Share of Weekly Income: Steady, 7 of 7 Days Cleared]"The Dungeons pay the same every day," Ilya said. "Six hundred and forty, six hundred and sixty, six hundred and eighty. It hardly moves.""That's why I count it." Riven tapped the line. "A Horde is a windfall. It comes when it comes, and I plan around it as a bonus. The Dungeon comes every day. That's what I build the week on.""You've said that before, my Lord
Chapter 39: Alliance Step
The waypoint stood at a crossroads two hours north of the wall.It was a plain standing stone, waist-high, set in a ring of flat paving. Years ago a Dungeon had opened here, and the System had left the marker behind. Nothing else grew within fifty paces of it. The road ran in from the south, and another came down from the north.Riven arrived with Elarys on his right and Torren a half step behind his left shoulder. They had walked the whole way without speaking. Ilya's leather case hung from his belt, with the two map sheets inside. He had come early on purpose. He used the extra time to walk the ring once and check the ground."Nothing here," Elarys said quietly. "No pits, no wires, no marks on the stone.""Good. Then the only thing that can go wrong is the conversation." Riven stopped at the center of the paving. "And I wrote the rules for that."
Chapter 40: Enemy Preparation
The Ore Hall finished at dawn.It was a long, low building beside the Forge, built to take the Ashen Iron coming up the cart rails and feed it straight into the furnaces. Brynhild's crews had raised the last roof beam the night before. When the sun cleared the east wall, the System marked the work complete.[Ore Hall — Complete][Development Level: 59 → 60][Infrastructure Milestone Reached][Infrastructure Tier II — Unlocked][New Upgrade Paths Available: 4]Riven stood at the Hall window and read the panel from top to bottom. He did not smile. He had been waiting for this number for some time, and it arrived exactly when the ledger had said it would."Summon Brynhild," he told the guard. "Now. And Ilya."They arrived within minutes. Brynhild still had a dusti
