The bunker walls groaned, a low, tectonic shudder that vibrated through the soles of Dimas’s boots and set his teeth on edge. Dust—thick, choking, and tasting of pulverized history—rained down from the ceiling, clouding the amber light of the workbench."The tremors are getting closer, Dimas," Silas said, his voice strained as he pressed his hand against the reinforced hatch above. "That wasn't artillery. That was a direct impact on the outer perimeter."Dimas didn't look up. His hands were a blur, his fingers dancing across the delicate, glowing innards of a flight-stabilizer drone. "They’re punching through the waste-zone barriers. I know, Silas. I can feel the ground jumping every time they drop a new pod.""How much longer?" Silas wiped a smear of blood from his cheek, his face pale under the flickering lamp. "If they breach the secondary intake, we’re done for.""Five minutes," Dimas grunted, jamming a micro-welder into the drone’s exposed ch

The silence of the bunker was a physical weight, but it was not the silence of the grave—not yet. Dimas blinked, his vision swimming with persistent purple spots that refused to fade. His body felt like it had been dismantled and put back together by someone who didn’t have the manual. Every nerve ending hummed with a residual, dying resonance. "Dimas? Kid, you still with me?" The voice was rough, like gravel hitting a screen. Silas was kneeling over him, his face a mask of grease and dried blood. Dimas tried to push himself up, but his arm felt like it was made of lead. "I’m here, Silas. Don’t start planning the funeral yet." "You gave us quite a scare," Silas grunted, pulling Dimas into a sitting position against the jagged remnants of the workbench. "The way you went out... it looked like you’d been vaporized from the inside." "I’m tougher than I look," Dimas wheezed, his eyes darting toward the desk. The

The sky above the ruins of Sector 4 did not just turn dark; it began to peel back like scorched parchment. Golden fissures bled light—a blinding, aggressive radiance that turned the swirling toxic rain into needles of white-hot vapor. Where the first wave of armored entities touched down, the ground simply ceased to exist, replaced by geometric patterns of crystallized reality.Dimas stood amidst the rubble, his chest heaving, his right arm feeling like it was being fed into a meat grinder. The Core-Weaver, now stripped and raw, sat integrated into the central console of the Ark’s engine room."They’re here, aren't they?" Silas whispered, his voice shaking as he gripped his rifle. "Those aren't Vane soldiers. That’s something else entirely.""Those are the architects," Dimas replied, his teeth gritting as he leaned over the interface. "They don't want the sector. They want the cycle reset. They want everything clean.""Well, tell them the sector is occupied!" Silas spat, leveling his

The transition from the roar of the Ark’s ignition to the silence of the sub-level bunker was not merely physical; it felt as though Dimas had been unspooled. He lay on the cold concrete, his breathing a jagged, rhythmic rasp that seemed to echo too loudly against the damp stone. His right arm was no longer his own. It was a searing, icy shiver that crawled beneath his skin, accompanied by a heavy, pulsating numbness that made his fingers feel like distant, static-filled memories."Dimas? Kid, can you hear me? Look at me, damn it!"The voice was muffled, filtered through the thick, swirling haze that had claimed Dimas’s vision. He forced his eyelids open, the effort requiring a tectonic shift of willpower. Above him, Irina’s face emerged from the darkness. Her silver-grey eyes, usually so sharp and predatory, were wide, reflecting a sliver of genuine, unmasked panic."Irina?" Dimas coughed, the sound rattling deep in his chest. "I’m… I’m still here. Relax.

The air inside the Ark was supposed to be sterile, a sanctuary of recycled oxygen and quiet hums. But to Dimas, it felt like the inside of a furnace. The charcoal-black veins snaking up his arm burned with every heartbeat, a constant reminder that he was no longer just a scavenger—he was a biological integration project gone wrong. He wiped his brow with the back of his good hand, smearing soot across his forehead. Around him, the "refugees"—the people who had survived the surface-wiping—were trying to establish a semblance of order. They were scavengers, clerks, and clinic workers, all huddled together in the dim, golden light of the Ark’s peripheral halls."Hey, Dimas," a voice called out.Dimas turned. It was Elias—or rather, the hollow shell that had once been Elias. The young volunteer was standing by the primary containment conduit, his posture unnervingly rigid. His skin had a slight, unhealthy sheen, and when he turned his head, the movement was to
