BANG!
The front door slammed into the wall hard enough to leave a fresh dent in the plaster as Leonard strode into the house. Everything was exactly as he remembered. The artificial flowers Magret, Susan's mother, had arranged on the entry table. The staircase runner sitting slightly crooked because Michael, Susan's father, had installed it himself and refused to let anyone fix it. And there was that distinct, lingering aroma of Susan's perfume—a scent that had, year by suffocating year, entirely overwritten the smell of the home his parents had built. Hearing the door, Michael marched out of the living room, wearing the grave expression he always adopted before issuing orders disguised as family advice. “There you are,” he said, his voice booming through the foyer. “Susan called and told me about the scene you caused at the bank! What the fuck were you thinking? You need to call Susan and Joseph immediately and apologize!” Leonard didn't say a single word. He walked right past him toward the staircase. “I’m talking to you!” Michael snapped, rushing forward to step directly into his path, blocking the stairs. “You will also sign the mortgage agreement again,” he continued, puffing out his chest with righteous authority. “Otherwise, I’ll tell Susan to file for divorce!” In his previous life, that threat had worked every time. The word divorce had always stopped Leonard cold. He would retreat, reconsider, apologize, and do whatever was necessary to restore peace. Because he had believed that was what a man did to protect his marriage. Because he had believed their marriage was worth saving. But now, the threat sounded almost laughable. Leonard didn't stop. He simply tried to step around the older man. Mistaking Leonard's dismissal for fear, Michael grew emboldened. He grabbed Leonard roughly by the shoulder and raised his right hand. "How dare you act like this when I was talking to you!?" Michael roared, swinging his palm violently toward Leonard’s face. That was enough. Leonard caught Michael’s wrist in mid-air before the slap could land. In one smooth motion, he twisted the arm downward, stepped behind him, and drove it up against his back. Michael stumbled forward with a loud gasp, his chest striking the edge of the dining table before his cheek was forced flat against its cold, polished surface. Michael let out a muffled yelp of pain and sheer astonishment. “Agh! What the hell are you doing?! Let go of me!” Leonard leaned down, his face inches from Michael's ear. "Put your hands on me again," Leonard murmured, his voice deadly quiet, "and it won't end this easily." Right at that moment, Magret emerged from the hallway, holding her grandson in her arms. Taking in the violent tableau at the dining table, she let out a series of sharp, hysterical shrieks. “Michael! Oh my god! Leonard, stop! Are you crazy?!” Magret screamed. The sudden, piercing noise startled the child into loud, wailing tears. Leonard released Michael's arm, letting the older man collapse against the table, gasping for air and clutching his wrist. Slowly, Leonard turned toward the crying child in Magret’s arms. Mark was exactly who he had come here to see. Once, this boy had been the center of Leonard’s universe—a son he loved above all else, a child he had starved for and nearly frozen to death for in the apocalypse. But now, as Leonard looked at him, that deep love had curdled into something cold, bitter, and hollow. Mark had Susan’s dark hair and pale skin. His eyes carried the same watchful, calculating quality Leonard had once mistaken for sharp intelligence. The child bore absolutely no physical resemblance to Leonard whatsoever, but in his past life, he had never questioned it, foolishly assuming Susan’s genes were simply dominant. Instead, he had spent eight years wearing the humiliation of a cuckold without ever knowing it, raising another man's child as his own while the true father laughed behind his back. There is nothing more dangerous than an honest man pushed entirely past his breaking point. Leonard stepped closer, his face an unreadable mask. He gently reached out and wiped a tear from Mark’s cheek. "I need to check something for you," Leonard said evenly, his voice smooth and calm. "Open your mouth." Magret immediately pulled the child back into her chest, staring at Leonard with terrified, wide eyes. “What are you trying to do to him?! Get away from him!” "Because I'm checking for an ulcer, Magret," Leonard said, shifting his cold gaze to his mother-in-law. "Do you have cotton swabs?" Magret, still shaken and processing the terrifying scene at the dining table, pointed wordlessly toward the kitchen cabinet behind her. Leonard walked over, retrieved a sterile cotton swab from the cabinet, and walked back to the child. "Open up, Mark," Leonard murmured gently. The swabbing took exactly thirty seconds. Mark submitted to it with the bored, whiny tolerance of a child who found adults incredibly tedious, before immediately turning back to Magret to whine about dinner. "Grandma, I'm hungry! Tell him to go away!" Leonard pulled a small plastic bag from his jacket, slipped the sealed, saliva-coated swab inside, and tucked it safely into his inner pocket. He looked at Michael, who was still leaning against the table with a red, bruised face, and then at Magret, who was clutching Mark like a shield. Without saying another word, Leonard turned around and walked straight out the front door, leaving the house behind him.Latest Chapter
Chapter 10
The looks aimed at the Millers changed instantly. Whatever faint sympathy they had enjoyed moments ago vanished in a heartbeat, replaced by raw, open disgust.Michael and Magret stood frozen under the heavy, silent contempt of the entire neighborhood.“No!” Magret finally snapped out of her shock, her voice cracking as she shrieked. “That’s bullshit! Complete bullshit! Susan would never do something like that!”Leonard gave her a cold, terrifying smile.“Really?” He calmly pulled his phone out of his jacket pocket. “Then how about I show everyone the videos right now?”Truthfully, while Leonard had concrete proof of the affair and Mark’s official DNA report, the "videos" were mostly a bluff. But the Millers had no way of knowing that. And judging by the utter panic washing over their faces, none of them were willing to call it. If Leonard actually started playing explicit footage in front of the entire neighborhood, the Miller family would never be able to show their faces in this cit

At the mention of twelve million dollars in cold hard cash, Michael, Joseph, and Magret suddenly found a remarkable burst of energy and shot straight out the front door, leaving Susan straggling behind.Michael and Joseph made it across the street to the estate first, only to find a large crowd of neighbors already gathered outside. The massive property sat behind an elegant, tall wrought-iron fence, with a pristine landscaped front yard separating the quiet street from the main house. Since no one could get inside through the locked electronic gates, curious neighbors had clustered along the iron bars, craning their necks for a better look at the luxury villa.“Michael!” someone in the crowd spotted him immediately and yelled out. Then came the loud, envious congratulations from every direction.“Michael, your family really made it big this time!”“You lucky bastard! Where on earth did Susan find a husband like that?”“Seriously, Michael, you never told any of us Leonard was this loa

“What do you mean that bastard divorced you?!”Michael Miller’s face turned an ugly, mottled purple as he stared at the official divorce certificate held in his trembling hands. He glared at the red stamp on the paper as if staring at it long enough might somehow make the crisp ink vanish into thin air.In this house, Leonard had been nothing more than an obedient, quiet dog. He cooked every meal, drove them wherever they wanted to go, fixed whatever broke, and meekly handed over practically every single cent he earned without a word of protest.Yet somehow, that spineless mutt had bitten back and run off?!Michael simply could not accept it. He couldn't digest it.“Where is that son of a bitch?!” Joseph shouted, leaping up from the leather couch with his fists balled tight. “Where is he hiding?! I’m gonna go find him and beat the shit out of him!”Little Mark, sitting on the rug surrounded by his toys, immediately piped up with an eager, cruel grin. “Where’s Daddy? I wanna hit Daddy

He woke before sunrise, showered, changed into fresh clothes, and headed straight for the finest restaurant he could find.Sitting by a sunlit window, Leonard ordered without so much as glancing at the prices. Prime steak, fresh seafood, delicate pastries, and the restaurant’s most expensive single-origin coffee were laid out before him.By the time he set down his fork, a deep, comforting warmth had spread through his entire body.So this is what it feels like, he thought, letting out a quiet, relaxed breath.Spending money on himself without an ounce of guilt felt... so damn good. After breakfast, he called a car and headed straight to the state lottery center. The moment the security guards and senior staff learned why he was there, their entire attitude changed instantly. Smiles replaced stiff formality, and a senior executive personally escorted him into an executive private reception room. His physical ticket and identity were verified through several meticulous rounds of securi
Chapter 6
Susan hung up the phone with a derisive, bitter click of her tongue. She tossed her device onto the bed and sneered. Marrying Leonard had never been about love—it was nothing more than a masterstroke of convenience. Nine years ago, it had been a hasty shield to avoid the dark scandal of an unmarried pregnancy, keeping her real lover’s reputation completely pristine.Better yet, Leonard had been criminally easy to manipulate. He was essentially a live-in servant who cooked, cleaned, took care of the kid, and handed over nearly every single dollar he earned without asking a single question. Now that Mark was eight years old, the threat of scandal had long evaporated. It was just a minor shame to lose such a reliable, free laborer. The next morning, the sun broke over the county courthouse. Susan arrived right on time and found Leonard already standing outside near the entrance, his hands tucked inside his coat pockets. She strutted up to him, crossing her arms and attempting to reign hi

The private DNA testing clinic on Millfield Road offered expedited, same-day processing for an exorbitant premium fee. Leonard didn't even blink as he swiped his card and paid it without hesitation. He sat in his car in the parking lot, carefully swabbing the inside of his own cheek, sealed the sample into the tube, and handed it directly to the technician. After that, there was nothing left to do but wait.He spent the entire rest of the afternoon sitting in the clinic’s quiet waiting area, holding a small paper cup of cold water, left alone with his thoughts. Every minute felt like an eternity, but his heart remained eerily still. At exactly seven o'clock in the evening, the phone vibrated heavy in his pocket.BZZZ.A new email had arrived. Attachment: Expedited_Genetics_Report_Ref8821.pdf.Leonard’s fingers didn't tremble as he tapped the file open. The report was only a few pages long, filled with complex medical charts and allele matching tables. He skipped past the technical jar
