"Who gave you the courage to drive away my distinguished guest?"

The calm voice cut through the restaurant like a sharp blade and everyone instinctively turned toward the entrance.

A woman dressed in a tailored ivory pantsuit strode into the restaurant with calm, unhurried confidence, her presence alone drawing every eye in the room.

Her long black hair was neatly pinned behind one ear, and every step she took carried the effortless composure of someone accustomed to commanding attention. Several employees immediately recognized her and straightened instinctively.

It was none other than Daisy Harrison, the founder and CEO of Harrison Capital, one of the city's most influential investment firms and the youngest businesswoman to build a billion-dollar empire.

More importantly, she was Selene's greatest rival.

The waiter froze and the color drained from his face as soon as he recognized the woman standing before him.

"M-Miss Harrison..." he stammered nervously.

Daisy's sharp gaze shifted from the waiter to Xavier before returning to the young man.

"I asked you a question."

Her voice wasn't loud, yet it carried enough authority to make the surrounding conversations fall silent.

"Who exactly gave you the courage to drive away my distinguished guest?"

The waiter hurriedly lowered his head.

"I-I'm terribly sorry, Miss Harrison. I didn't know Mr. Lancaster was here to meet you. Miss Selene instructed me not to let him enter, so I..." His voice grew weaker with every word. "I sincerely apologize."

Daisy's expression remained unreadable.

"So your restaurant's service depends on who gives the orders? If someone influential tells you to throw out my guest, you simply obey without question? Is this the respect you show towards your guests?” 

"N-No, Miss Harrison." The waiter stammered while visibly shaking.

"I don't remember Harrison Capital investing in a restaurant that treats its guests this way."

The manager, who had been watching from a distance, hurried over the moment he realized what was happening.

"Miss Harrison." He bowed politely before glaring at the waiter. "What happened here? Any problem?"

Before the waiter could explain himself, Daisy spoke calmly.

"Nothing too serious." Her gaze lingered on the embarrassed waiter for another moment. "He simply forgot that every customer deserves respect…. Because of him, I almost started believing your restaurant measures a customer's worth by their status rather than the quality of your service."

The manager immediately understood.

"I'm deeply sorry, Mr. Lancaster." He offered Xavier a respectful bow. "This was our mistake. Please accept our sincerest apologies…. Mr. Lancaster, today's incident reflects a serious lapse in our service standards. Please allow us to cover all expenses today as a sincere apology. We hope you'll give us another opportunity to earn your trust."

Xavier remained as calm as ever.

"It's alright. He was only following instructions. I don't intend to make things difficult for someone simply doing his job."

The waiter looked at Xavier with visible gratitude, most people would've taken the opportunity to make things difficult for him.

Instead, Xavier had let the matter go with a single sentence.

Daisy watched the exchange in silence. The Xavier Lancaster she knew was courteous to everyone, almost to a fault.

He had always been polite, almost excessively so. Today, however, that familiar politeness remained, yet something fundamental had changed.

There wasn't even the slightest trace of the man who had once revolved his entire life around Selene. It was as if nothing around him truly mattered anymore.

An unreadable look flickered through her eyes.

Interesting…

For the first time, Daisy found herself unable to read the man standing across from her.

She had expected an emotional confrontation after hearing rumors that Xavier and Selene had argued.

Instead, the man standing before her appeared unusually composed.

"So," Daisy remarked with the faintest smile, "are we going to continue standing at the entrance all afternoon?"

The restaurant manager reacted immediately.

"I'll arrange our finest private suite at once."

Daisy nodded once before turning toward Xavier. "Shall we?"

Xavier gestured politely. "After you."

The two of them walked deeper into the restaurant together.

The employees standing nearby instinctively stepped aside, not daring to block their path.

Within minutes, the manager personally led them to the most luxurious private room in the restaurant.

The room overlooked the river through floor-to-ceiling windows. Crystal chandeliers cast a warm glow over polished oak furnishings, while an elegant dining table had already been prepared with the restaurant's signature dishes.

The manager respectfully pulled out a chair.

"Miss Harrison, Mr. Lancaster, if you require anything at all, please let me know personally."

"That'll be all."

Once the door closed behind him, silence settled over the room.

Daisy leaned back in her chair, studying Xavier with unconcealed curiosity.

The corners of her lips curved upward into an amused smile.

"I have to admit," she began leisurely, "today has been full of surprises."

Xavier picked up the glass of water in front of him and took an unhurried sip.

"Oh?"

Daisy folded her arms across her chest.

"Everyone in our circle knows you're hopelessly devoted to Selene."

She chuckled softly.

“People used to joke that if Selene asked for the moon, you'd spend the rest of your life building a ladder to reach it. Others swore she could make you sell your own soul with a single sentence."

Her eyes remained fixed on him.

"So tell me, Mr. Lancaster..." A playful smile spread across her face. "Did the sun rise from the west today, or have you finally come to your senses?"

Xavier lowered the glass onto the table with a soft clink and a faint smile touched his lips.

"Let's just say..." His fingers lightly tapped the rim of his glass. "I finally realized some people aren't worth sacrificing my life for.”
