CHAPTER 3:

Instead of rushing blindly out into the blood-splattered corridors of the Grand Plaza Mall, Mark turned back toward the shattered display cases of Creature Comforts. The air was thick with copper, smoke, and the faint, sweet smell of spilled pet shampoo. He knew the mall layout intimately, and he knew that out there, pure chaos reigned.

Screams echoed from the upper levels, punctuated by the heavy, rhythmic thuds of structural pillars collapsing under the weight of incoming portals. If he wanted to survive long-term and exact his revenge on Mr. Shola, one beast would not be enough. A true master needed an army.

His analytical gaze fell upon the exotic reptile section at the far end of the store. Most of the glass terrariums had shattered during the initial shockwaves, leaving small lizards and colorful corn snakes slithering frantically across the rubble. But one thick, industrial-grade tank remained intact, half-buried under a fallen drywall beam. Inside, coiled tightly around a piece of bleached driftwood, was an eight-foot Albino Burmese Python. Its pale scales shimmering with an eerie iridescence under the flickering fluorescent lights, its pink, unblinking eyes stared through the glass, completely unfazed by the destruction. The store tag labeled him Sly.

Mark walked over, his boots crunching on glass, and placed his dust-covered hand against the cold surface.

Hidden Evolutionary Pathway Detected!

Unlock Requirement: 1x Elite Monster Core (Acquired from Orc Elite)

Bond Level: 70% (Submissive / Neutral)

Would you like to bind this creature as your Second Bound Beast?

"Perfect," Mark whispered, his voice steady. He reached into his spatial storage ring with a thought. The air rippled slightly as he withdrew the pulsing, dark green Orc Core. It felt heavy in his palm, vibrating with unrefined monster energy. He tapped the core against the glass. "Bind and synthesize."

The storage ring flashed a dull silver, and the Orc Core dissolved into a thick, swirling cloud of emerald mist. The vapor defied gravity, seeping directly through the ventilation mesh at the top of the tank. The python uncoiled instantly, its body sliding off the driftwood as its head snapped toward Mark. It sensed the raw power.

Target: Sly | Evolution Path: Abyssal Viper (Tier 1)

Evolution Status: BEGINS!

Unlike Shadow's explosive transformation, Sly’s evolution was silent, cold, and profoundly horrifying. The white scales on the snake's body began to peel away in dry sheets, falling to the floor like dead leaves. Beneath them, interlocking obsidian scales emerged like cold, overlapping armor plates. The snake’s body lengthened rapidly, stretching from eight feet to an eighteen-foot behemoth as thick as a tree trunk. Two crown-like skeletal crests erupted violently over its eyes, curving backward like miniature daggers. Its pale pink eyes burned into slashes of toxic green light.

CRACK.

The reinforced glass shattered outward, unable to contain the beast's immense frame. Sly coiled his massive body over the debris, his iron scales sliding across the floor with a rhythmic, metallic scrape. Wherever his underbelly touched the tiles, a faint, sizzling trail of acid melted the synthetic flooring into black goo. He slithered beside Mark, his long, split purple tongue flicking to taste the blood in the air.

Mark felt a cold, metallic mental link snap into place in his mind. Sly was entirely submissive, awaiting his order.

"Shadow, Sly, with me," Mark commanded.

He turned and walked out of the ruined storefront, stepping into the vaulted main corridor of the mall. The shopping center had transformed into a post-apocalyptic nightmare strewn with abandoned shopping bags, shattered displays, and the corpses of goblins and shoppers alike. Fifty yards down the hall, outside a luxury boutique, three green-skinned goblins were aggressively battering an automated vending machine.

"Sly, clear the path. Shadow, guard the rear," Mark ordered without breaking stride.

Sly moved with terrifying, silent speed. The iron-scaled snake slithered down the hall like a streak of dark lightning. Before the goblins could register the sound, Sly’s massive coils wrapped around two of them simultaneously. [Corrosive Constriction] triggered. A horrific chorus of snapping bones echoed through the corridor, accompanied by the wet sizzle of flesh melting as the acidic scales ate through crude leather armor.

The third goblin shrieked, dropping its rusted dagger and turning to flee. But the shadows on the wall ahead detached themselves. Shadow materialized directly in front of the monster, his crimson eyes flashing. With a lightning-fast swipe of his razor-sharp claws, he decapitated the goblin instantly, sending its head rolling across the marble floor.

Mark walked past the smoking, melted remains without blinking. His eyes were locked onto the digital directories overhead pointing toward Central Fountain Square.

"Hold on tight to that chest, Mr. Shola," Mark murmured, stepping over a puddle of black monster blood. "Your savior is coming, and he expects a full refund."
