His coach clapped him on the shoulder. “Don’t talk to yourself like a crazy person. Get up. We’re doing bag drills next.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Azlan muttered, wiping sweat from his brow.

When Azlan finally staggered home, the sun had long set. His mom was waiting at the dining table, her arms crossed.

“You’ve been out all day again,” she said, her tone sharp but laced with worry.

“Training,” Azlan replied, dropping his bag near the door.

“You’re overdoing it,” she said. “Your father would never have pushed himself like this.”

Isa’s smile faded. "What’s your problem? I’m just trying to get by, same as you."Azlan’s voice rose. "Yeah, but you’re using it like a cheat code! This isn’t a game, Isa. At least I’m not pretending to be perfect."Their argument drew the attention of Stacy, who watched them from the bleachers. She narrowed her eyes. "Those two are hiding something," she murmured to herself.Joseph jogged over to Isa, interrupting the tension with an exaggerated stretch. "Yo,

He edged closer, peering around a corner to find three men cornering a young woman against a crumbling wall.“Empty your bag,” one of the men snarled, brandishing a knife. “Now.”The woman’s hands trembled as she clutched her bag tightly, her voice barely audible. “P-please, I don’t have much…”Shadow’s jaw tightened.
