Firelight flickered across broken stone.

Blackwood stood in the center of it, blind eyes facing the sound of his enemies. His mother’s breath was shallow. He could hear it uneven, afraid, trying to be brave.

Seraphina’s hands were shaking.

Her dagger trembled against Lady Maelis’s throat.

“Tell him to kneel,” King Vaelor said calmly.

Seraphina swallowed.

“Kneel,” she whispered.

Blackwood did not move.

Kael laughed softly. “Still stubborn.”

Blackwood tilted his head. “If you cut her, I will burn this empire to the ground.”

Vaelor smiled. “You already are.”

Archers tightened their grip.

Blackwood felt it tension in the air, hearts racing, the faint tremor of Seraphina’s breath.

“She won’t do it,” he said.

Seraphina’s voice cracked. “Don’t say that.”

“You were never a killer,” Blackwood continued. “You were a survivor.”

Tears slipped down her face.

“She doesn’t want to die for you,” Vaelor said.

Blackwood turned his face toward him.

“She already has.”

Nyx crouched in the shadows.

Ten soldiers.

Four archers.

Two exits.

None clean.

She whispered into the comm-stone. “This is bad.”

Blackwood did not respond.

He was listening to his mother.

Her heartbeat. Her fear. Her pride.

Lady Maelis lifted her chin.

“Do not kneel for me,” she said.

Seraphina gasped. “Stop”

Maelis looked at Blackwood. “You were never meant to be small.”

Blackwood clenched his jaw.

“You were meant to change this world.”

Seraphina pressed the blade closer.

“Shut up!”

Maelis didn’t flinch.

“My son,” she said gently, “you do not owe me obedience.”

Blackwood whispered, “I owe you everything.”

“You owe the broken,” she said. “Not me.”

Vaelor clapped slowly.

“Touching,” he said. “Now kneel.”

Blackwood inhaled.

Then he dropped his sword hitting the stone and a sharp sound ehoced

Silence followed.

Nyx froze.

Kael’s grin widened.

Seraphina sobbed as Blackwood knelt.

Vaelor approached.

Slow. Careful.

“Look at you,” he murmured. “The God of War, on his knees.”

Blackwood did not speak.

Vaelor reached out and lifted Blackwood’s chin.

“You could have ruled beside me,” he said. “Instead, you chose chaos.”

Blackwood whispered, “You call it chaos. I call it consequence.”

Vaelor laughed.

Then he nodded.

“Kill her.”

Seraphina screamed. “No!”

Her hands shook violently.

“I can’t,” she sobbed.

Kael moved forward.

“I’ll do it sir.”

Blackwood roared.

The sound shook the ruins.

“Touch her,” he growled, “and I will erase your bloodline.”

Kael hesitated.

For a fraction of a second.

It was enough.

Nyx moved.

Arrows flew .Steel clashed and Smoke erupted.

Chaos swallowed the aqueduct.

Blackwood surged to his feet moving now like a storm

Blind.Precise.Unstoppable.

He followed sound. Breath and Heartbeat.

He cut down soldiers before they screamed.

Nyx fought beside him.

Fast. Deadly. Unseen.

Seraphina screamed as someone grabbed her.

She fell and her dagger slid.

Lady Maelis cried out.

Blood spilled.

Blackwood felt it.

A scream ripped from him.

“NO!”

He lunged.

Hands caught his arms.

Kael.

They struggled.

Kael hissed, “She’s already dead.”

Blackwood headbutted him.

Hard.

Kael staggered.

Blackwood tore free.

He ran.

He dropped to his knees beside his mother.

Blood soaked her gown.

He touched her, her  pulse was weak.

“Mother,” he called out

She smiled faintly.

“You finally knelt,” she said.

He shook his head.

“No. Don’t you dare.”

Her hand found his face.

“You became what you had to,” she whispered. “Now become what they need.”

Tears burned down his cheeks.

“I will fix this.”

She shook her head.

“No, my son. You will end it.”

Her hand slipped.

Her breath faded.

Blackwood screamed.

The sound tore through the ruins and everything stopped.

King Vaelor watched.

Seraphina collapsed, sobbing,as Kael stared, shaken.

Nyx knelt beside Blackwood.

He did not move.

He did not breathe.

Then

He stood.

Slowly. Silently.

And something changed.

Not anger. Not grief.

Something colder.

He picked up his sword.

“This empire,” he said softly, “will learn what mercy feels like when it is gone.”

Vaelor stepped back.

“Kill him!”

Blackwood turned and walked toward the king. They barely escaped.

Smoke, Fire, Bodies everywhere

Nyx dragged Blackwood when he would not stop.

When they were far enough

He fell to his knees into the dirt.

Holding nothing.

Nyx knelt beside him.

He did not speak. He did not cry. He did not breathe.

Then he whispered:

“I am no longer seeking revenge.”

Nyx swallowed.

“What then?”

Blackwood lifted his face.

“To judge gods.”

In the palace, Vaelor sat shaking.

Kael stood silent and Seraphina starring at her blood-stained hands.

The king whispered, “We have created something.”

Kael nodded.

“A god.”

Seraphina whispered, “A monster.”

That night, across Darkhole every execution site every rebel wall and every burned estate, a new symbol appeared.

Not the broken crown. Not the wolf.

But a scale Balanced and beneath it:

JUDGMENT HAS A NAME.
