After the revenge in the village, Damian returned to Lagos and resumed his billionaire training. He was now in charge of Williams Foundation, giving scholarships and building schools.
But something had changed. He could not forget the face of the beautiful girl he saw in the crowd that day in the village. The fair girl who was staring at him.
One evening, Chief Williams called him to his private study.
"Damian, you are now 15 years old. You are a billionaire heir. You have done revenge. But a man is not complete without two things — power and love. It is time for you to go to real school, not home school. I have enrolled you in Greenfield International School, the most expensive secondary school in Lagos, where all the children of billionaires and governors go. You will meet your own kind there."
Damian was excited and nervous. He had never been to a real big school since he was expelled from his village primary school.
On Monday morning, a convoy of three cars took Damian to Greenfield International School in Victoria Island. The school looked like an airport. Children came down from Bentley and G-Wagon. White teachers, black teachers, all speaking British English.
When Damian entered SS1 class, the whole class went silent. Everyone knew him. His face was on TV — "Village Boy Becomes Billionaire Heir."
The teacher said, "Class, we have a new student, Damian Williams."
A boy at the back hissed, "Village billionaire."
Damian ignored him and sat down.
Then the classroom door opened and a girl walked in late. She was wearing the same school uniform but she made it look like a fashion dress. Fair skin, long hair, pink lips, smelling of expensive perfume. She was holding an iPad and a small designer bag.
It was her. The girl from the village.
Sophie.
Sophie saw Damian and froze. Then she smiled.
"You!" she said loudly in class. "The village billionaire!"
The whole class laughed, but Sophie walked straight to Damian's desk and sat beside him.
"I knew I would find you," she whispered. "I told my father to transfer me from my school in Abuja to Lagos just to be in your school. My father is the Chairman of your Local Government. Remember me? I was in the village that day you came with Jeeps."
Damian's heart started beating fast. For the first time since he became a billionaire, he was shy.
Sophie was different from other Lagos big girls. She did not laugh at his village background. She was fascinated by it.
During break, Sophie took Damian to the school cafeteria. She bought him ice cream.
"So, tell me, Mr. Billionaire, what does it feel like to buy your old school and fire your proprietor?" she asked, laughing.
Damian laughed too for the first time in a long time. "It felt good. But after I did it, I felt empty. Revenge is sweet, but it does not fill the heart."
Sophie looked at him deeply. "Wow, you are not like other rich boys. Other rich boys only talk about cars and girls. You talk about heart."
From that day, Damian and Sophie became best friends. They did assignments together, they ate together, they went for swimming competition together.
Sophie was very intelligent. She was teaching Damian advanced English and French. Damian was teaching Sophie how to be strong and how to forgive.
But not everyone was happy.
In the same class, there was a boy named Tunde, son of another oil billionaire, who had a crush on Sophie for two years. Tunde saw Damian and Sophie together and became jealous.
One day after school, Tunde and three boys cornered Damian near the school toilet.
"Village boy, listen. Sophie is not for village people. She is for real billionaires like us, not fake heirs. Stay away from her if you don't want to be beaten again like in your village."
Damian looked at them calmly. He did not shout. He remembered General Black's words — "A billionaire does not fight with his hands. A billionaire destroys with one signature."
He brought out his phone and called General Black. "General, there are four boys from Greenfield School who want to beat me. Their names are Tunde, Femi, David, and Chuka. Find out who their fathers are and call their fathers."
Within 10 minutes, all four fathers called their sons, shouting on the phone, "Are you mad? Do you want my contract with Williams Oil & Gas to be cancelled? Apologize to Damian now!"
All four boys knelt down and begged Damian in front of the whole school.
Sophie saw it and was shocked. She whispered to Damian, "You didn't even touch them. How did you do that?"
Damian replied, "That's the power of being a billionaire. You don't need to slap. You just sign."
Sophie fell in love with him that moment.
That evening after school, Sophie and Damian sat at the school swimming pool, their legs inside the water.
Sophie said softly, "Damian, I have never met a boy like you. You suffered. You became rich. But you are still kind. Will you be my boyfriend? Not because you are a billionaire, but because you are you."
Damian looked at her beautiful face. His heart was beating like a drum. He remembered his mother telling him, "One day, a good girl will love you not because of money, but because of your heart."
He held her hand. "Yes, Sophie. I will be your boyfriend. And I promise, no one will ever make you cry. I will protect you like I protect my mother."
They hugged as the sun set over Victoria Island.
But far away in Banana Island, Lady Williams and her sons Kola and Femi were planning their final attack. They had hired a kidnapper to kidnap Sophie, because they knew Damian loved her. They wanted to use her to trap Damian and kill him once and for all.
And they did not know that Damian's love for Sophie would make him more dangerous than ever
